hi there guys, im new here on this forum.
i have recentely bought a 2005 VZ commy V6..
i have read through the few thread on this forum and i have found the problem that i am having at this moment .
however people on this forum have suffered from the incorrect fuel gauge problem...
i also have the same problem that it MIGHT be showing me a incorrect level.
when i bought it i have filled it up to the max (almost up to the neck) and it is now indicating almost low, i have ran about 200KMS ONLY..
i filled it up with 91 octane without that fancy ethanol fuel...
the thing that shows on the dashboard screen says im using 22L/100kms
i dont think that is right ration... as i know of, commodore should be around 15L/kms...???? i think...
even when i was going to newcastle, crusing around 100~120km/h it indicated that i am using 19L/kms......
i dont think it shows it right...
is it a problem with actual software that is not updated ?
or fuel that is not right.......
or actual mechanical problem..?
what would be the problem? anyone have ideas???
also can i use ethanol fuel on my alloytec?
mate go out for a drive, let the engine heat up then reset the trip computer and drive around really softly for say about 20km's....if you get back anything over about 15L/100km i'd be getting it checked out by a mechanic, my guess is the the oxy sensor has had it.
ok, so usually its around 15L/100km?
thanks for that WW
back to basics, what is your driving style,? like when you drive how long a distance, what speeds, cold hot engine traffic?
do you keep reseting the fuel consumptio
yes its a good possibility the fuel guage update hasnt been loaded,
what is the service history like

lol
i drive pretty normal, sometimes like granny,,,
prob mostely short distance drive 60kms average speed
temp gauge stays 1/3 always not much of traffic....
i have never seen the ration thingy go lower than 19L/100kms
and how do you reset the fuel consumtion thingy?
thanks for the reply guys~![]()
how does the real time litres used monitor...this should give you an idea of issues in calibration...I can't help with figures but I am sure plenty can...
Press the set button!
My Dads VZ wagon had a similiar problem to this, the car was using around 20l/100km around town & went down to about 17l/100km on the freeway.
In the end it was due to a bad batch of fuel, its all back to normal now, gets around 12l/100km town & 8.5-9l/100km freeway. He does carry work equipment in the back which does make the car consume more fuel.
The Blue One
You will find that most VZ's (not too sure about other models) will hold the capacity that Holden claim however you cannot access all of the fuel. I have a wagon, 75 litre tank, I can only access 65 litres - apparently the other ten or used to maintain pressure of the system and ensure that the pump is cooled by the fuel flowing thorugh (etc). Have spoken to Service Managers and they either act dumb (normal) or claim they'll check with Holden and get back to me. They never do return my call.
1) fill your car up to the first click
2) reset your trip meter
3) go about your business as usual until you need to refill
4) fill it to the first click again
5) take down the litre amount you have just added (eg 62 lt)
6) take down the trip meter amount (eg 480 kms)
7) divide the trip meter amount by 100 (eg 4.8)
8) divide the litre amount by the above amount (eg 62 / 4.8)
9) this (if my brain is working properly atm) will give you the actual consumption (eg 12.9lt/100km)
if its really using 20lt/100 i'd ditch it quick smart
the average for a VZ V6 is ~10-12lt/100km
ok guys
i sort of solution now
thanks to all the guys replyed (especially WW)
i drove around until i ran out of fuel
(estimate KMs left was 10kms on the display)
and filled her up $60 worth, roughly 58litres (only had $60)
reset tripmetre, reset calibration thingy,,,, L/100kms
at frist it was 0L/100kms
i drove out wait for chance to get out of servo , 99L/100kms
i was like WTF!?!?
drove out and drove around a bit in traffic, 20L/100kms again....
after about 10mins driving it indicated 15L/100kms in traffic..
went home and when engine was cooled down i drove out again at night
warmed it up a bit, drove constant 70kms/hr and it indicated 10L/100kms
i was like oh scored!!!!!
and today went on M2, travelling at the speed of 120kms/hr constant speed
it indicated 8L/100kms i was so happy looking at it. lol
turn A/C on it said 8.8L/100kms
and later 9L/100kms
still i was happy..
when i filled her up it went basically all the way to the top of fule gauge
now i ran out 100kms now and it used about 1/4 of tank
and estimate kms remaining was 400kms still
which giving me a rough idea it could/would run about 500kms with almost full tank..
so now i kind of fixed my problem but i will watch out how many kms it will run
and get back to you guys and other problems will occur during the full tank...
'
anyways thanks heaps guys and also one more question for now
is it safe/ok to run 91 ethanol fuel on my engine??
i sometimes fill with 98... well i used to when i had swift. lol
I have an issue with my 05 VZ ute . Basically when it says its empty , and I fill it up I can only get 40L in it . I might get a jerry can and keep going just to see how much more is left in the tank .
Have been reading the other threads about the fuel gauge problem but it doesnt really tell me if there was a definate fix for this .
Im going to monitor my fills and fuel consumption from now on .
As stated by dmar, the only way to check consumption is to keep a log of how much you put in it and the distance travelled. Don't take any notice of what the vehicle's litres/100km says for the first 5 km or so as it will tend to be fairly high - especially if you reset it when you are still in the service station.
I have found mine to be fairly accurate though when compared to the actual log figures that I keep.
