My VZ Alloytech has a very rough idle,it is either idiling a bit low or there is some other problem.
I have just recently purcheased the car and on idle the car kind of trembles a little.Anyone with any ideas?
When was the last time it was serviced?
Spark plugs, dirty fuel injectors....
The Blue One
It's got 110000k on clock service books are all stamped at regular intervals.
Next plug change is due at 120.000k.
Could it be a throttle body problem there is a bit of black residue around the flap area of TB?
yeah clean the throttle up and see if it makes a differance, i doubt it would, but yes some get a bit of a vibration that you feel in the bottom of the car, like it make you jiggle in the seat,
ive fixed this by adding 20rpm at idle, smooths it out beautifully

I had rough idle, just topped up the tank with bp ultimate, drove for a while and is far better then before.
how rough are we talking what did you drive before the alloytec doesn't have the smoothest idle thats why it was bagged out on release compared to the ford i5 and aurion v6.
The funny thing is when the air cond is on and working it seems to be better it idles a little higher and is smoother at idle.
When i say idle is rough i mean that if you are sitting at lights you can feel the car kind of rocking gently.
I've had V8 motors before with monster cams that shake rattle and roll but that's a different story. The idle RPM on my VZ would be approx 550 do0es that sound right. i would have thought idle should be around the 600-650RPM.
idle when warm should be 650rpm.
Its weird because its a really really rough idle then after a restart its good as gold

I had a rough idle and knocking feeling when I got a "check drivetrain" message on the display. Turned out to be Oxygen Sensor. Happened again soon after without the warning message and it was another Oxy sensor.
Regarding the rough idle....check the grade of oil you've got in your engine.
Handbook recommends 10W-30 engine oil .
I've used the heavier grade 15W-40 and it caused a vibration and slight shake at idle.
The lighter grade oil doesn't put as much load on motor (runs smoother and gives me about 0.3 litres/100k better fuel economy.

big problem with the V6's is the harmonic balancer might be shitting itself, i would very quickly check this out or get the car inspected by a mechanic..

On petrol you can barely feel it but it is still there.
I've taken it back to the gas place and they checked the whole system but couldn't find any problem with the gas system. The reason it shakes more on LPG is because gas is a much harder fuel to ignite so ignition problems show up a lot more. The gas guy seemed to think it would be spark plugs or coil pack....but i've had both replaced recently and the problem is still there!
Any ideas?
My alloytec on gas runs a bit rough at idle , the gas injector hoses are quite long and I think that the auto correction is getting delayed due to the length of the gas hoses causing a slight lope at idle, it still responds fine so I don't worry ( I'm an installer)
changing the plugs made mine settle down to the point where you wouldnt even know its running.
Get it pressure tested & see if holding pressure, it may have a slight weep & water going to wrong places
i have a rough idle once i turn the car on in the mornings, after about 1 minute idle running, the revs drop and it goes back to normal??? if i drive as soon as i turn the car on, it wont go without flooring the accelerator all the way down. what options should i look at? how do i clean the throttle body?

henrydat, that sounds like its missing - i had a problem like that and i suspect it was a bad connection of one of the coilpacks to the spark plug. best way to check that is to loosen the coilpacks and re-seat them on the plugs
