hey all, i recently bought my '05 vz exec and was just wondering comparing the engine to my old vt (ecotec)..it had an exhast and that was about it no extractors or nothing...the vt seemd to have more torque off the mark..like not looking for tyre spin off the line, but just seemed to have more balls
wondering if i put an exhast and extractors, pod filter or something to open up the airbox would it change the torque downlow or wat..
cheers jim80
Best way to get better down low torque would be the VCM Tune or a higher set of Diff gears (3.54/3.73)
Is it Auto or Man?
4 spd auto...vcm tune?? please explain and would almost any performance shop be able to do it..and would it be pointless without exhaust done??
the alloytec has fly by wire which means that the ecu has control over the throttle not your foot. a vcm tune removes alot of this torque management which means when you floor it off the line the throttle body will actually fully open.

However still 0-100 you won't have ANY trouble whatsoever dispatching an ecotech. The alloytech's hit torque just after 2000rpm and then go hard from there on. Anyone else who tells you different or tries to tell you different is a fkn idiot and has no idea what they are talking about. I know for a fact, I used to own a VS S2 ute w/ extractors zorst and CAI, yet my VZ SV6 sedan still makes 0-100 faster and I have never been beaten to 100 by ANY ecotech or pre alloytech NA motor(unless they have had some work done to it of course.)

ok sweet, anyone know average price on a vcm tune..and still would it be pointless without and exhaust or be fine with the stock exhaust?
The going price seems to be $900 AUD. Usually a good idea to have zorst and cai etc sorted out before the tune else you have to get it retunedShould be OK with stock exhaust though with a good exhaust system on, will sound better and breathe easier also.

i know for a fact my wagon slaughters vn and vs sixes off the mark, if it does that, i cant imagine a vt would be any quicker

Yeah, you tell me you're 10+ year old car unmodified has a hope in hell of keeping up with something that gives 10yr old V8's a hard run and I'll laugh you off the forumsI'm not that much of a cynic, I am just sick of hearing the bullshit heh.

I'm a 18 year old first time owner of a VZ 190, but I don't race. Sure I may try and takeoff from the lights fast, but only because it feels completely different to my grandma's Hyundai.
Riding in a 4 cylinder for the past 11 years really puts the power of my car into perspective. I mean, I still feel like I'm getting pushed back into my seat. And its totally stock.
Can't wait to Exhaust and Tune it.

Nicely saidhaving the experience is always a plus when comparing cars/take off speeds/power etc. I had a VL V8 back in the day and I thought THEY were fast. The SV6 is actually faster heh. My wife gives me stick sometimes because I'll deliberately floor it and watch her head bob back and forth coz she sits so loose in her seat hahaha.

Sure they dont have the low down torque of a Ecotec motor but I think the alloytec motor are much funner to drive you just have to no how to drive them ahaha and where the usuable power is.. I have a mate who has a VY S Pac ute with CAI, exhaust and few other lil peices and of the line he pulled but it had no hope once we were up and goin the alloytec hammers all the way to redline whereeas ecotec runs out of puff... Even had a worked VT 5 L worried .. these alloytecs deserve some respect![]()
I totally agree. Had a V8 VK grp A lookin car pull up next to me on the way home from a friends place one morning in kingsly jumping onto the freeway south, both sitting in the turning lane to turn right onto fwy south and he's on my left. He pulls up, I had the missus in the car and some gear in the boot. He was a young bloke, hat low, boy racer seat possy and mate in the passenger. Anywho, light goes green and I am around the corner and up the road to 100 and onto the freeway so fast that by the time he catches up and does his loser fly by (which seemed to take forever) I was nearly at the next fwy turnoff already cruising.
On a side note, was driving northbound on Stirling highway last night just past the queens st intersection and what did I see parked a the lights heading southbound? brand new white R35 GTR. Needless to say ......

thanx for all the replys everyone, like i said im not after wheel spin off the mark just seems the throttle is a bit "heavier" then the old vt from take off, but i must admit once up and going it hammers...only given it a squirt a few times but fairly imprssed for a stock "family car" just cant wait to start spending money on it haha
Yer mate get an exhuast, mcai etc etc and a tune.. Or at least do the mcai/two hole mod it gets rid of electric car noise and gives it a deepish roar when throttle opens up.. I was goin to get tune but car of road at the moment and contemplating a Raptor charger so will make my mind up on that first other wise tune would be a waste of money..
Current (and VZ) engine management systems are designed to reduce power if it senses ABUSE MODE in order to protect transmissions etc.
hate making shit money haha...wanna do so much but savings is only coming slow...think i will be buying some rims and lowering before cai and exhaust, i been looking around and i think i like your ve ssv's the best OBRIEN seen a set on ebay go needing new tyres for $865...also waiting for krudd to stimulate me which will stimulate my savings a fair bit haha
Hence why you get it tuned so it wont![]()

lol im only 19 but with mates with different cars and all the cars i work on and drive at work, ive driven heaps of different makes and models, so i think i can safely compare cars
damm straight, thats what ive always said about them, you cant jump between say a vy and zed they throttle control is heaps different, dont agree with the low down torque but im running a different tune and have max ve flow set at 100 so sometimes it can get a bit touchy now hehe, i.e working way through traffic, touch the pedal a bit to move forward, it just squats and launches
hehe, mine dosnt have than anymore

if u want more down low the manifold insulators are the way to do as they increase ur down low torque which helps u get off the line faster. but tune looks like the best way to go and diff gears. but get everything done to the car u want and then tune or else it will get very expensive
yeah..been looking at mace engineering...ive taken a big interest in his insulators and the cai box..had a look on ebay the cai is 270 come with everything to install and its straight unbolt and bolt back in
and the insulators are 150 bucks, hes got an instalation guide on ebay but my computer wont open it up cus its stupid and i dont have abode reader haha...estimated 5kw gains outta each and says that improves a bit of torque downlow so for $420 + postage could be a best value for money at the moment
if anyone could tell me how easy/hard it is to replace the insulators would be appreciated and do u need to be mechanically minded...or is it pretty straight forward?
Ecotecs had torque off the line???
