hey guys i have recently brought myself a VS senator with the 215kw motor. it already has a exhaust and standed hsv air intake! i have been thinking about fitting roller rockers and thought i would ask which ones would suit this motor? what difference will different ratios make.. is it best to tune the motor after fitting higher ratio rockers
roller rockers... i wouldnt even bother. the money you pay for them do two fiths of fark all once fitted.
save your $$ and out it to better power upgrades eg: intake, cam
want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
I have a feeling they came stock with roller rockers??? Could be wrong on that one but by far the best thing you could ever do for that motor is get rid of the hideous intake manifold. TP dual plane + edelbrock 4brl tb + tune and it'll fly! Whack on an old style HDT OTR race tray for some cold air just for good measure
Reaper
yeah, im pretty sure they come with rockers allready. changing them only changes the ratio and you wont feel a difference. standard are the best mate.
if you want power, get the air in/out quickest way.
N/A setup
OTR, Cam, exhuast system, tune.
when my ute was N/A, i had it fitted with OTR, VCM3 cam, valve train upgraded to Comp cam gear, Diffilippo stainless 1 3/4 extractors and Diffilippo stainless twin 3" system, custom tune.
she was pushing 372HP at the wheels. sounded great with the exhuast and lumpy idle, and the power was great for street use. turned many heads :P

Hey Ashtray83,
Roller rockers will give you a couple of hp gain over standard,
i would recommend staying standard ratio (1.65:1) as being a HSV the cam would have a different grind to standard 5.0L, may have more lift,
if a 1.72:1 ratio were to be used, piston to valve and retainer to valve guide clearance would need to be checked first.
Roller rockers on any engine are a great upgrade, less friction, stronger, less valve guide wear, = valve train lasts longer
shoot me a PM if you are after a good price
Cheers

i would, even if i didnt work @ YT, as said above , they are by far stronger over the factory gear, reduce valve train wear, and in most cases, will give a slight power increase.
upgrade like cam and intake are great to do, but a larger cam would require a rocker arm with more strength and if i were putting in a big cam/springs/retainers, i would not wont the factory pressed steel rocker arms snapping and causing engine failure

i'd get rocker arms from the known company in the states...

Hey Kingston,
Firstly,
im not being smart here, just stating what ive seen,
I know our roller rockers are made here in Moorabbin Victoria, as i can go over to our other factory just down our street and watch the CNC machining centres , machine our U.S extruded aircraft grade alloy bars into rocker arms, then they come here to my factory to be fully assembled by hand with all components made by us except for the torrington needle roller bearings and the circlips that hold them on, We are an Aussie company that has been making Aussie products since the 60's, and we will continue to use and make our own parts, not send it over sea's for cheaper copied products
As for chinese made products, some are good quality some are not so good, you get what you pay for in the end.
Thanks for your feedback.

thanks for the info and replies everyone! but please keep this on topic! i did look at the rocker through the oil filler point and they are just pressed with no roller tip.
Ashtray, roller rockers are a good idea but maybe later down the track with your build, like when you whack in a cam at the same time.
I've lost touch with the old Holden V8 but I'm pretty sure you could spend this fist bit of coin on some more simpler bolt-ons.
