    Default Holden V8 Whipple setup.

I believe from what I saw at Summernats that you now have a Whipple setup for the Holden v8 completed?

It looked like it was using one of the smaller Whipple blowers. I didn't have a chance to speak to anyone on the day, but I was just wondering about a few things. Is it possible to use the blower manifold to mount one of the larger Whipple units (either as is or with some modifications)? And also, what is the best intercooling setup you offer? I know you have some water to air setups that sit below the blower. Is it enough to cool the intake charge at high pressures/flows/hp?

Reason I ask is I am currently gathering parts and information for a Holden v8 build, the goal being around 800rwhp. I know it would be easier to get this with a turbo, and probably even with a centrifugal blower, but my other car is a turbocharged rotary so I am looking to build something entirely different. If your manifold will not suit I am happy enough to fab something up myself.

Also, what range of the Whipples do you carry? The Whipple site lists blowers up to 5.0L/revolution (W305AX and W305R) yet I have seen mention made on other sites of greater capacitys, even 9L? What can you tell me about what blowers you have available, and if possible some indication on pricing would be great too.

Thanks for any information you can offer me.

Having played with Whipple's in the past, the W305 series is best for big block chev's. We have used these on 572ci chevs in powerboats pulling 1550hp all day everyday with good reliabilty. The 9.2L whipples (think it was 9.2) was built for drag racing in competition with the 14/71 blowers. They were a good blower, but are no longer made (and haven't been for some time)

The 305's are a bloody good blower, we were making better numbers with one of these, then we were with dual 3.3L setup (using the old Lysholm ones)

Also alot happier Daniel decided to make his own supercharger and move away from Lysholm, when you order a supercharger you don't have to wait 4 months to find out Lysholm is only just sending it to Whipple.

Ok, thanks for that info, I think the 305 is going to be what I want, can it be used with the Yella Terra kit? What about the water to air intercooling setups, are they going to be able to support the power I'm talking about here?

    Hey metalhead.
We have access to all Whipple products and carry the 2.3ltr and 3.3ltr axial blowers in stock. We usually order in the 5.0ltr and radial 3.3ltr's as we need them.
The kit you saw at Canberra was the 2.3ltr and a 3.3ltr or possibly a 5.0ltr conversion plate would not be too difficult to make up. This kit is still under development as the castings are not completed yet.
The power figure you are talking about from a Holden engine would put you in a very exclusive club and I would suggest you factor in reliability, considering the cylinder pressures that would be needed in a small cube engine, and that the Holdens can tend to lift the heads. A phone call to Craig Bennett of Torque-power about his 460ci and 480ci Holden based engines and 6 bolt heads might be worthwhile.
To give you a very rough ball park figure of pricing the 2.3, 3.3, and 5.0ltr blowers go for $3,000 $4,000 and $10,000 respectively.
    Cheers.

hey, im new to this whole engine build up and modifying scene and was wondering how much horspower i may be able to achive without changing my heads on my red 253 holden V8. at the moment it features a high rev low down power cam by crow, 40thou ACL pistons, 603 4 barrel quadrajet carbie and a new rebalanced crank. any extra hp tips for this would be great.
