    Default Buy locally or import?

Hi guys, sorry if this is an inappropriate thread, I'm sure it will be removed if it is; this is not targeted at YT directly, but for all products. Just happens I'm looking at getting a set of YT ultralites

I'm just wondering as most people are finding out that buying overseas is more beneficial then buying locally in this current market with the strong Aussie dollar.

I have a serious question, why is it that i go to my local speed shop and ask for a quote on a set of YT rr's and get a figure right, then i go on the net and go to a very well known shop and get a quoted price included delivered for same part number which is far cheaper than getting it locally? if it was a small margin i wouldn't bother, but it is way cheaper??

only things i can put it down to is export subsidies and GST?

There is alot of fake stuff on this well known site, that appers to be very ligitimate stuff and comes in ver convincing packaging. There was one on here a while ago. A fellow member was showing 2 seemingly identical products yet one was a fake and far less superior.

thread was created 4 months ago when the au-us $ was more competative. was only a general question of interest directed to YT but didnt get an answer.

guess its more the gst and export price.

probaly not changing my rockers now anyways, unless i want to lighten the valvetrain.

    Sorry.
Must have missed it when you first started the thread.
The answer can be fairly complicated.

    * We can only recommend selling prices, it's illegal for us to try and control what other people re-sell our product for.
    * The US market is different to Aus, the wholesalers tend to sell direct more so there are fewer middle men, and there is a lot more online sellers who have less overheads.
    * The value of the AU$ has a big effect as you already mentioned.
    * Their market is 50 times bigger than ours, so they are more able to buy in bulk to get a cheaper price.
    * There also seems to be a lot more product exchanges over there which can de-value some items.
    * The after sales service won't be as good buying from an OS supplier.

So if we buy from the US (cheaper than here even when you factor in freight) will YT support the products still?

I have a set of your new offset YT's on some LS3 heads and while ive never had an issue with a YT part it would be nice to know they are still supported.

BTW, in the USA they were $399US, here they are $799AU. (little less if you can buy wholesale but even then i saved $250 a set by importing than going to a local distro. I'd prefer to buy local but not when the prices are double.

We still support the product but any issues have to be dealt with thru the channell they were sourced. Fortunately we don't have too many issues.

The offset LS rockers are a little higher in price to the straight ones and the first batch supplied to the US was sold incorrectly (by our own warehouse) at the LS1 price so I think the landed price would be a lot closer now, particularly with recent changes to the Aussie dollar.
As a customer I suppose it's just a matter of timing as to getting the best value and service so it pays to shop around sometimes.
