    Default fitting roller rockers

    Just a question,
How hard is it to fit the 1.95:1 ratio roller rockers to a VS ute?

    Has anyone had any experience?

Does anyone know where I can get them fitted in the Sydney inner west area?

They are fairly easy, just unbolt rocker covers, unbolt factory rocker gear, remove old gear including the rocker mounting plate and pushrods.

Fit new pushrods, then aligning plates supplied, then rockers arms with 5/16 mounting bolts and torque them to 25"lbs,they come with easy to understand instructions too. any mechanic or mechanical minded person should be able to fit them.

    2 ways:

    1) Use your timing marks and line the timing mark on the harmonic balancer to the big line on your block. So it's neither advanced nor retarded, or
    2) Unplug spark plug 1, earth it to the block, and hand rotate the engine until it sparks, then stop.

Yeah. Get a socket to fit the big bolt, and then a knuckle bar, and you just rotate it very slowly.

TDC, remove the plugs, also disconnect the battery for safety. Stick a solid plastic thing in the plug hole (BIC pen or chopstick) and as you rotate the engine by hand you will feel the piston come to the top.

It's just so all the rockers are under the same tension when they're torqued down.

So this again may be sounding like a silly question, SHould I repalce the Rocker cover gasket during this install?

Also is there any other thing that I'll need to do whilst upgrading the rockers?

    Default YT rocker fitment

    Hey mrtrunkmonkey,

The rocker cover gaskets should be ok, i normally just pull them out with care.
give the seals and the seal channel a clean with a rag and refit.
Of corse if seals are broken you should get new ones to stop future oil leaks that will **** you off.

The rockers are pretty much bolt on and drive

i did it and it was incredibly easy to fit them. more so than i thought. i used no instructions but i checked the manual anyway to be sure..didnt say anything about aligning to tdc, and i didnt align the engine to tdc ..would that perhaps be causing something to be loose and cause the squeeking noise i keep hearing?

thats good to hear you found them easy to fit, the rocker arm bolts should be torqued up to 25 ft lbs, a squeeking noise is very strange indeed, i would see if you can hear if it is coming from the drivers or passenger side and retrace your steps on that side of the engine, might be something very simple thats easy to miss.

    Cheers
