Lol @ nitpickers

I've never been a grammar nazi. Typing Liberal Party of Australia (NSW Division)/National Party of Australia – NSW is a bit of a boring read.

Or you can just keep saying LNP
Anyone with half a brain knows what you mean
There isn't much difference between the 2 organisations both squandered huge majorities in less than one full term

The performance of the Newman and Anbott/Turnbull governments do have parallels but Newman lost because of his natural arrogance allied with harsh and heavy handed approaches to mending his state's financial position. This put a lot of voters offside.

Abbott tried to do the same thing in 2014 after making absolutely stupid promises during the election campaign but at least he tried to fix the financial position as he had promised.

Turnbull on the other hand has achieved virtually nothing over nine months except lose a lot of personal popularity with voters.

The problem for all parties now is that voters don't like the hard decisions that need to be taken to repair the economy. Try it and get kicked out of office.

The Nationals particularly irk me.

The thing is they are supposed to represent the rural sector, but due to the Coalition agreements their policies are 99% the same as the Liberals. As a result they have adopted city-centric policies on lots of things. Coal Seam Gas, large mining in prime agricultural areas. I am surprised that the Nationals are quite silent on climate change. If I were a farmer, climate change/and or increased variability would be the number one concern as a healthy ecosystem underpins a strong water availability, good soils etc.

Nonetheless, on election day I noted that virtually all Nationals vollies were pensioners so in the long term the voter base will die out.

But they have still won.
In fact they have won 6 of the last 8 elections. Is that a good record or not?

All politicians (regardless of political persuasion) have a lot to answer for on a lot of things.

Just like there are good and bad companies there are good and bad unions. Some unions like the AMWU get a bit carried away to the point they shut their business down. Then you have the SDA (I think that was the union in question with Dominos) who are hopeless and will not back up their members. NSW Teachers Fed are a happy medium.

From personal experience the AMWU and CMFEU are both waaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond 'a bit carried away'. They are at best common thugs and often fall way into the realm previously held by the mob in stand over rackets and the like.

At the very least you need unions in large workplaces to negotiate pay deals where the workforce is very large, or there are large numbers of people doing the one 'position description'. Out of efficiency. Imagine a school principal having to set aside time to negotiate individual contracts with 50-70 teachers? Not going to work.

I'm fine with that as long as the union accept the responsibility they also carry in weather the organisation is successful or not.

However yes union membership is declining as the working world becomes more and more diverse. Now down to about 18%. For parties like the ALP to remain relevant it will have to look beyond the union movement and reshape themselves as a progressive, socially democratic party taking up the centre-left area on the political spectrum.

mmmmhmmmmm - socialism it is!

457 is a huge issue, libs won't give it the time of day because it serves business interests, the interest of driving down wages.

I'd be interested to hear your idea of how the 457 subclass of the immigration act is written.

Turnbull has been a huge failure. Unfortunately they don't have anyone else who is a likely leader.

Less seats in the lower house, less in the upper house. Usually one calls a DD election if you think you'll come out on top. Not this time.....he juuuust won but in a weaker position.
