Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

All being going well apart from the last 6 weeks, been dealing with a dreaded tail shaft failure. Spat the rear CV joint then after getting that replaced with a universal, spat the front CV. Had all sorts of dramas trying to get this thing sorted out as vibrations from resonance was...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Hey everyone sorry I haven't replied for a while, there have been issues with the site's reCAPTCHA which validates real users from bots as I needed to reset my password. I got in contact with a site admin and they have switched to a different function for the moment. As you can see the shifter...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

It's been running really well. Took it down to Willowbank a few weeks ago and did a 14.2 which is about 4/10th quicker than it was with the 4 speed. I also did a dyno run after and the LSA in Naturally Aspirated form put out 256HP on the stock L76 tune and 270HP after I tuned it so power wise...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Actually _R_J_K_ that's not quite correct. The system I used does not interface with the VZ CAN Bus whatsoever. The TBMSport standalone is essentially an Analogue to Digital Converter. In my conversion I have spliced the necessary wires from the standalone module into the ECM wiring harness...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Thought I would give a little update, well actually it's a big update, it works!!!! The TBMSport standalone system essentially wires into the necessary signals at the ECM and the module handles sorting them out for the CAN Bus so the transmission control module can read them. The difference...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Got in touch with Jesse at True Blue Motorsport in Pennsylvania. What a top guy! Extremely helpful and very optimistic about getting my project working. After some deliberation we decided to use his standalone solution to allow the T43 TCM to communicate with the various analogue signals that...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Well as suspected, it does fit! It's close but it is now in its new home. Have moved the transmission breather hose from the left to the right side as it would squash against the trans tunnel. The LSA needed a few things swapped over to sit in a frame it wasn't originally designed for...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

In full swing! L76/4L65E next to soon to be installed LSA/6L90E. While the 6L90E is overall about 50mm taller, a lot of it is at the bottom. The extension housing on the 4L65E is about 5.5" longer than the 6 Speed so the tailshaft will need to be lengthened and also the front tripod swapped...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

So after some research and shopping I decided to pull the trigger and found an LSA and 6L90e from a 2014 GTS. Supercharger had already been removed but the internals of the LSA definitely can do with a lot more than the factor 1900 S/C can throw at it, even after pulley upgrades. Came with the...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Thanks for the thread link. So sifting through the posts it appears all but conclusive that it will physically fit with no mods if it fits in a VS. This was never a concern for me personally as I'm pretty good at metal fabrication. Might reach out to the TrueBlueGTO guy and see how things...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Looks like I may just have the only model that this could work with. The later VZ's fitted with the Gen 4 V8's use a CAN Bus system which is what the GM A6 transmissions use and the 4 speed auto trans module also communicates to the ECM via CAN. Late model VZ's use the E38 ECM, also used in VE...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Hmmm, so sounds like no one has attempted this, or successfully done it anyway. I've heard of them being yanked from wrecked VE/VF's and put into old cars that don't require specific integration for systems like SRS and ABS etc, but to keep a VT-VZ roadworthy would be challenging to maintain...

    Building 5L VP UTE

Great choice there. The VP would have to be one of my all time favorites, probably because my first ever Commodore was a VP back in '94. The biggest thing that prevented the 304 from, as you say waking up is the low compression ratio. Between 10-10.5:1 would be great matched with a decent...

Pre VE 6 Speed Auto Conversion

Been thinking for a while about converting my VZ SS Crewman from the 4L65 to a 6L80 or 6L90 6 Speed Auto. In my view it is probably one of the biggest technological gaps between the VT-VZ platform and the VE/VF. Has anybody converted a VT-VZ V8 to a 6 Speed Auto before? Can it be done?
