Just the one buff pad to apply, then you wipe away with a microfibre once done.

I still wax by hand, I generally polish with a buff as it helps to work the polish into the paint where as with wax your really just applying a top layer to the polish.

Theres plenty of good vids on youtube to show you what to do, thats how I got my start.

I've historically done it by hand so pad selection is a dark art to me lol.
I have 3pads (2 foam, one wool) - basically the heavier/denser/harder the foam, the bigger/deeper it cuts. So buff in three goes, dropping from firm to soft with your pads.
3M system matches pads to specific compounds (making it an expensive set up). I use ROAR which is a single compound, 3pad system which is almost as good but obviously cheaper.

My polisher has 3 different foam pads = for heavy cut , lite cut and polish , seams to work nice .
Yes apply with pads / polisher , remove with micro fibre cloth.
And yes still wax by hand.

I have orange buff pad to use with Bowdens cutting compound. It can leave some slight swirl marks that's where I need a swirl mark removal pad, which I don't have yet. I cut the whole ute and also cut the areas I repainted.
I have a wool pad too but I only use that very lightly if I am rubbing off the excess thick wax. Couple of times I have waxed the whole ute with thick wax and let it dry 15mins and gloss it up with the lambswool pad, only takes a couple of light swipes to shine it back up. I then use lazy wax a couple of times a year and just towel that off.

Second update in a week!

I’ve been toying with what I still want to do to get the car to the point I want it for a comfortable fun cruiser.

I’m going to pull the car off the road over winter next year and rebuild the diff with 3.7 gears to liven it up a bit as well as respraying the rear bumper and one of the wheels that I’m not entirely happy with.

Update, I finally found a S3 rear lip for the bumper.

When I eventually respray things over winter I'll fibreglass up the towbar cutout as it was done pretty poorly and this car will never be used for towing.

I've also got some exhaust shennanigans coming up soon which I'll post up as they happen.

Re-did my exhaust over the weekend.

Wasn't happy with the off the shelf redback muffler I had and wanted something unique that would bring the 304 note out without giving off that typical tug boat sound that a lot of the injected 5oh's had.

It was a toss up between Hooker Aerochambers or Flowmaster Delta 40's (Both have won awards by Hot Rod Magazine in the US and are very popular).

I ended up going with the Flowmaster as the price I got for Flowmaster was much much better than Hooker and I could get it locally on a sunday. (Sorry Deuce).

Couple of videos:

It's definitely given me the note I was after, it really brings out the slight choppyness to the cam an has an awesome growl.

You going to try twin 200 cell cats or 2 vn-vs cats next?

Reckon that would make tad nicer, sounds like the louder version of my ute now.

Previously had rusty/kinked crap extractors, single cat into straigh-thru + resonator...probably worst looking exhaust ever had on a car yet sounded awsome outside the car but crazy amount of drone inside even at idle had to quiet it up again.

It's got a single 200 cell at the moment, I'm pulling the trans and diff out over winter so while it's out it might be the perfect time to weld up some twin cat pipes.

Thankfully right now it's completely drone free at all speeds which is great.
