I currently have a 3.08:1 ratiodiff in my VZ ute and was planning on changing to a higher ratiodiff, Is it as simple as just replacing the diff centre or will I have to change more things aswell?
and what ratio would be a good recommendation for acceleration gains without taking a massive hit...
Hi,
Just bought a VX LSD 3.46 Diff and want to change it over myself from my stock VZ SV6 2.86? diff (if thats the ratio it came out with)
Just wondering what it take to change it over.
Its just the centre peice (Gears inside + housing.) if anyone could give me some pointers as to how to do...
Just typed "VZ diffratiochange" into the search function and it came back with all these threads
https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/search/20136687/?q=vz+diff+ratio+change&o=relevance
Happy reading :)
I have used the search function and found the post about how to changeVZdiff oil and the code on my diff doesn't appear to be anywhere. Just looking for what sort of oil I should be using when I change it? The code is BMK and ratio 3:08:1. Thanks everyone.
Edit: Car is a 2006 SVZ wagon.
So im thinking bout getting an LSD diff and new gears for my v6 175km wagon.
Can anyone help me out with info and prices.
Iv heard id need a v8 manual diff cos my standard diff is to small to change the gears and get LSD.
Iv done a search and got no clear answers.
Thanx guys
Does anyone know what the diffratio is in the standard VZ Exec sedan v6 auto? Wanna put an LSD diff in it and not sure weather to keep the same ration or change it.
If i end up changing what should i change it to? not building a race car just wanna give it a bit more of a kick.
Sorry dont...
dont know for sure on the ve's but a reconditioned vz 6 speed gearbox conversion kit can start from around $2500, but i think then you might have to change the diffratio if you change the gearbox?
did the diffratiochange for vz? i thought the ratios were v6: 3.08 (auto and manual) v8: 3.08 (auto) 3.46 (manual) (( these obviously being standard and not taking into account special order))
i've got a vz acclaim with the 3.08 diffratio, and i got a quote today to change to 3.7's and the guy said it would be close to $2000, due to the rubber donut flange mount... or something like that haha and that they have to use new genuine holden parts. just wondering if anyone has had 3.08s...

Hi guy's I mainly do hi way k's
if I was to change my diffratio from 3.07 in my VX SS auto to a 2.87 out of a Vz am I able to recalibrate my cluster to suit
I have a November 2004 VZ SS ute, the diffratio as marked on the white label on the off side of the diff is 3.46:1 - I am getting the diff replaced under warranty due to a whine under deceleration (with only 9000k on the clock). I asked the dealer if I could get a 3.73:1 diff as fitted to the...
This is my VZ that l picked up for $500 with some rego. I had a VY previously so I put the suspension out of the VY into it. Super low and l machined out a set of VE wheels so they would fit on. Had to roll the rear guards a bit. I also put a 3.07 ratio LSD centre in it with a VT tailshaft to...
Have been thinking on changing the diffratio on my vz sv6 for a while, just not sure w3hich way to go for 3.46's or 3.7's either way anything would be better than the standard 2.87's.Also can holden fix the speedo after the diff gear change with tech 2.
Any advice would be appreciated.
4 cyl commodores had Torana stud pattern wheels.....to change, put some 6 cyl or V8 rotors on (the same)pre VR....You will also need the matching calipers....The diff....change the axles....you'll need pre VL axles for this. Providing you are staying 4 cyl, the diffratio won't be an...
g'day all,
after reading up abit on tall and short diffs and their ratios etc it's pretty much told me that you'll get better economy and top speed from a tall diff, 2.87:1 for example..and very good acceleration from a short diff, for example, a 4.11:1
with the short diffs and better...
Are you after just a 3.73 ratio gear for an existing diff or are you after a full 3.73 LSD diff to change out with whats currently in the car?
If you're just after gears then its an M80 diff so your after gears to suit that and then just check if its V6 or V8 (im not sure if that actually...
Has anyone done this conversion and what are the problems. I know that the borg warners are a little wider. (how does this wider track affect the handling, and will i have to roll the guards as i have VZ SS rims). reason for change is 2.78 ratio is **** for city driving.
The reason people change the diff is to change the ratio.
You can pick up 2nd hand V8 manual diffs off ebay for around the $500 mark which is pretty reasonable if you compare against having a diff place do a ratiochange and another benifit is most V8 manual diffs are limited slip.
Just look...
yes vcm is a shop but they are in vic you need to find a tuner in qld that has vcm suite and some experience tuning alloytecs. alloytecs are alot harder to tune the the LS series so don't just go to anyone.
yes changing the diffratio will thorw out your speedo but yes vcm can fix that when...
Yes mate, you cant go wrong with a LS... Always that bit better for traction, and more fun when you want to shread some tyres. I have a VZ SS LSD 3.07 diff gears if your interested. I up-graded mine to a lower diffratio but there is nothing wrong at all with the diff. Always serviced etc, shoot...
Hey guys Been doing a bit of a search and can't seem to find much info about redline oils bar there website, so just wondering if any1 has used these oils in there gear box or diff if so some feed back would be great as I'm about to change my gear box oil and swap the diff centre ova to the m80...

A search will provide many threads on this topic already. A helping hand below for you;

I think the manual LS3 gear ratios are crap, too low in 1st and 2nd, too gappy into 3rd and 5th and 6th is too tall. The LSA/GTS ratios are best which are the same as VZ with a lower and closer ratio 5th and 6th. Overall, the LS3 auto ratios are better with the 3.27 diff. Top gear needs to be...
Is this a V8 or V6, I gather its a V6 with a 3.08, there isnt many choices for gears with a 7.5" V6 Diff, I got a VX Series 2 SS LSD and throught it in my VZ V6 Ute, you can easily change the gears in a 8" V8 diff as there less than $200 for a set on ebay and thyou can use any ratio, 7.5" come...
I recomend extractors and wider wheels most of my customers stop there. but if want more can changediff /final drive ratio, strut tower bar also cheap and very effective in vz due to welds on a pillar are AWESOME if you have ever seen gaurds off;) slotted front rotors is next then usually...
Vt non abs open change
Hi i have a 1997 VT does not have ABS im trying to change the diff with a 2000 VT but the drive shaft mounts differently to my diff the new diff has ABS can i just change the mounts over or will i need to find a VX drive shaft an will the axels even fit lol
Ive done exactly that, mine was a Series II VY SS cluster (looks exactly the same as yours there) into a VZ Acclaim which is essentially exec with more safety features.
Doesnt matter how many airbags a car has, if you change the cluster you need to change certain config paramters. The diff...
A ratiochange won't improve your bottom end torque, you will need a tune to help with that
What a ratiochange will do is give you noticeably quicker acceleration, especially from a standing start
I'm not 100% sure on the factory ratio of V6 auto....There's a white sticker on the diff with the...
VX and VY are the exact same diff.... 95% sure the VZ is the same aswell... just the gears in the v6 versions are weird (low ratio).
They swapped the yoke setup after vt. THe idea was to with the rubber thing, any gears from the tailshaft are absorbed abit...
I put a VY GTO 3.73 diff into...
haha thanks man, the supercharger does fix a few things :p
to make it easy I got a complete diff was a straight bolt in basically, still kept my standard one just encase
as vz ss posted that's the one I got, was a bit cheaper back then
Try a vx - vz manual v8 diff.
They have that ratio 3.46.
I have a m80 that was built for me with the 4 bolt flange & is LSD.
I tried changing the flanges myself & stuffed up.
So, ordered what l wanted (3.46 with the 4 bolt flange).
