after market v8 engine conversions kits are common and you can get anything to fit a v8 into early commys v8 kframes are hard to get or they want ridiculous money so you can get v8 engine mount adptors to suit v6 kframes...

Why not just shave the heads you have? It will mean a few weeks off the road. Just that 304 stuff is getting top dollar these days with people doing V8 conversions as the VN - VS, V8 bodies are becoming fewer and fewer as more and more get wrecked.

Scott looking good so far. You will need to flatten the chassis rail on the drivers side slightly. Not sure what it needs to clear but the factory v8 cars had this anyway. I have done many EFI conversions but only ever v8 factory cars. Just roll teh lip slighlty. Cheers

Get a tailshaft from an auto 253. The front of that should bolt up to the rear half of the VK borgy tailshaft. Should work anyways, we've done that for our v8 conversions with borgy diffs.

Hubs assembly and engine cross member is the same v6 to v8, you can get lucky and some wreckers sell complete conversions with what you need, I know 1 here in Adelaide has a kit for $12k

what exactly is involved in dropping a v8 in a v6.... how much do the 5000 v8's usually go for in $$ and what kind of conversions need to be made, Like it would require a new memcal/ecu, fuel tank, fuel pump maybe?, radiator??? (to help cool the bigger block) tranny??? cheers

Yes you can. You will have limited space though due to the position of the transfer case. Built many exhausts on different V8 conversions in 4WD's and the exhaust is pretty much made to fit where it can.

I think a big part of the price rise is to get a V8 you either have a choice of pre LS1 5l holden V8's or go to a VT onwards and get into the LS engines. It's hard to find LS engines these days as everyone buys them for conversions. So if you want a V8 VT onwards looks like a good option.

Thanks! IT seems VK 6 and V8 k-frames are the same and will work, but people often use VN-onwards K-frames (V8) for better header clearance.

Look up Marks 4WD, well known for V8 conversions. Look at their site and you gain a lot of useful info. Ring them and discuss your situation and parts needed for the engine/gearbox/loom/wiring setup you have. I know/have the info for 304/LS1 conversions but to much to detail on a forum as there...

Vt V8 getrags all had dodgey dual mass flywheel & clutch setups...add annoying whine...then sloppy shifter bushes. The v8 getrag I got was only v8 one I'd seen in a vs...usually people took pedal setup for 6spd conversions. Saw 2 getrag vs v6 utes at Pick n Payless few months back...came back...

Honestly mate its the same deal with people asking about V6 to V8 conversions, too much hassle and much easier just to sell your 3.0 and get a SV6. The cost to changeover won't be all that much on a car of the same age.
