    2012 Commodore VE overheating

A bad thermostat won't cause reduced power or explain the needle sticking on cold. New cap is always a good idea and check both the temperature sensor/senders

E10, 95 or 98 for pure dollar for distance travelled LS3

Nothing gets great economy from e10. The ethanol has a lower calorific value than petrol so it generates less power when you burn the same amount. Hence you must burn more fuel to extract the same amount of power or cruise at the same speed. It's like trying to put on weight drinking diet shakes.

What will be the next car brand to leave Australia?

Australia would be better off with less variety of cars on the road, and in dealerships. That would mean higher numbers of the remaining cars on the road, profitable dealerships, better parts availability and mechanics being more familiar with those cars. Shame everyone wants to be cool these...

No, they bolt the engine cradle ( k frame ) to the front chassis. They are big bolts, from memory 22 and 24mm.

Compare the dealer price to private sale prices. If dealers are adding a BS tax then buy privately instead.

VE 2008 Anniversary "what is the lateset Software Versions"

That is correct. Apparently the update for the chains allows for increased 'stretch' to occur before the engine light comes on. So if they originally allowed say 2% stretch they revised the tolerance up to 4 or 5%. Something like that. There was another update for cars that had continual battery...

E10, 95 or 98 for pure dollar for distance travelled LS3

Well I'm definitely no fan boy of the Aus govco, but one thing I can say for aus is that when we do get new roads built, you know the ones that people have been waiting for for 40 years, they're usually pretty awesome. We can finally drive almost all the way from Sydney up to Brisvegas on nice...

E10, 95 or 98 for pure dollar for distance travelled LS3

That is exactly what happened yesterday. I was laughing at the caltex with a price of $1.45 for 91 that was dead quiet, not a customer in sight straight across the road from the BP full of people filling up for $1.01 I always use the fuel check app when the price is high.

E10, 95 or 98 for pure dollar for distance travelled LS3

Sydney has just jumped up to from $1.01 to $1.45 for 91. How's that for a price cycle... Lucky I filled up yesterday and got 98 for 1.20

E10, 95 or 98 for pure dollar for distance travelled LS3

In a normal car 91 will definitely be the best value. Make sure you fill up when the price is down or you will lose out by a mile. The car feels better with 95 or 98 though. e10 chews through more fuel so that's always last choice.

    Holden commodore 2008 boiling noise

Yes that's what I would do. New cap should stop the gurgling noise and hold more pressure in the radiator. That will help the cooling system work better for the summer as well.

    Rear Cv bolts coming loose

If they tighten up when you hang off them I doubt the threads are worn out. If they were badly worn the bolts would keep turning. Pull a bolt out and see what the thread looks like. Best idea would be to get the diff sorted out since you already know it's got problems and see if that solves the...

    Holden commodore 2008 boiling noise

Agree, and buy the new pressure cap from a Holden spares dealer if you can find one. Genuine caps are the only ones that work for me and I've tried all of them. Makes me think I should buy a couple now for future use given that Holden dealers are disappearing faster than Trump supporters.

    Alloytec PCV

Bugger it. I have always wanted to pull the rocker covers, timing cover and sump off mine to see how it looks compared to all the sludged up pictures I see. I tell myself that it's still perfect inside because I run good oil and look after it, but can't be sure until I actually get in there and...

    Autobarn sale

You might get more miles out of the engine running 15W50 instead. The Hot viscosity of the oil is the one that lubricates at operating temp so I don't like to sacrifice it. But you are in Tas which is colder than the rest of the country so things are possibility a little different.

I think you would be better off using a full synthetic oil in that warm climate you live in. I use 5W40 full synthetic in my Alloytec. It has done 280000 and looks cleaner than yours.

I wouldn't worry too much about that to begin with. I've seen quite a few adds willing to take on mechanics as I've been looking at a variety of jobs for a while now. Help with recruitment angency.

Agree with keith, avoid agencies altogether as far as possible. One place worth looking is the big mining company websites and wherever they advertise such as seek. Most company websites have a career section. Send your resume to as many as possible if you really want to go there.

No oil in motor but no leak?

Park it somewhere level and top it up until it reads full on the dipstick. Then check over the next few weeks. It would have to be blowing clouds of smoke to be burning the amount you suggest.

Will a VE II's engine stall if you disconnect MAF while its running?

The best way would be to plug in a decent scanner and see if the air flow values look correct and vary with the revs.

Will a VE II's engine stall if you disconnect MAF while its running?

I think someone is telling you stories. The car should start and run with the maf disconnected. The engine light will light up though.

Just a suggestion for next time, grab a set of these for Christmas. They will make it much easier to undo the diff plugs. Just attach it to your ratchet or breaker bar. Thermostat Issue I Think

I think I was charged 3.5hours for the thermostat. Can't remember as it was a long time ago, it might have been $350. Look underneath the car and see where the coolant is leaking from, front or back of the engine.

    Bearing type noise (engine bay)

If it's not an old or poor quality belt, what is causing the belt to be noisy? Did you check the balancer bolt is tight and all the pulleys are aligned?

Some say rubbing soap on the belt helps stop belt noise.
