I kept the factory FE2 springs on my '06 Calais sedan but changed the factory shocks out for KYB Excel Gs (lowered version for FE2) and what a difference. Got the strut top bushings replaced as well, drives a lot tighter and quieter.

The VE's fans wont actually kick in until the coolant temperature reaches 109c (when the air conditioning is off and vehicle speed is less than 30km/h) Seems hot, but apparently this is how they roll. Probably due to more efficient combustion at higher engine temps.

I've got the exact same issue. A light tapping noise noise under the dash that isn't the air conditioning or radio and putting it into neutral/park doesn't help. Tapping gets faster and quieter with revs.

An update: Noise is still here, seems to be getting worse. I've rotated my wheels and unfortunately there's no change. Coasting at 60 will make the whole car hum and buzz quite badly and touching the throttle changes the noise to a quieter hum, as does braking. Could anything else be at fault...

Sounds like the steering wheel controls themselves are malfunctioning. Could be stuck contacts, try give them a clean with some rubbing alcohol. Replacement of the controls might be necessary if cleaning doesn't solve it.

Probably not helpful. But my dad's VEII SV6 had the steering wheel and gear selector lamps disappear for a while. After a software update at Holdens, they came back. Maybe pull the negative terminal off the battery for an hour and see if that helps.

You won't want it to go bang, since that usually sends shards of metal and other burnt rubber **** through the rest of the AC system and then you'd be up for a new condenser, lines etc. My Astra did that. Sold the car a few weeks after getting the $2000 worth of work done on it

I'll have a look at the wheel in the morning and check that everything is done up right. If I'm going 60 and the noise is present, swerving left and right makes no difference.
