You have to take the plenum off for installation anyway and was going to clean it but didn't have time. Mine wasn't that bad anyway. I would recommend cleaning it if you've got the time but wouldn't say that cleaning it would give much/any improvements - unless yours is particularly bad.

If you wanted just the DRL's on with no other lights, best option would be to just run them off the battery with an inline fuse, then run a completely separate switch and mount it somewhere in your dash.

That's what I thought. Been doing a bit of reading and maybe a diode has died. But apparently it's just easier to get a new alternator than it is to get a new diode cluster. And it's still charging properly so I'm not sure. Such a frustrating problem.
