    Rust in my pillar :)

Nah just seen it in a few vt-vz. Last one I dealt with had been bogged previously and so rust was much worse than the pics in this thread. It almost seems like they rust from the inside out in some cases, but generally looks like the rust is very isolated to the bottom section of the pillar...

    Rust in my pillar :)

The mold can be pulled up if the windscreen sealant hasn’t contacted too much or the mold when it was fitted. It is possible to fix this rust without removal, and it’s actually a seemingly common rust area for these vehicles - I’m not sure how/why. Especially possible using a tig welder where...

VS series lll V8 5spd ute cam package

I’ll have to get mine together shortly then see we can compare idles haha. I’m happy to see people playing with 304’s here on the forum again, especially with the roller cams.

Sounds great. So is this untuned? (sorry at work and haven’t had a chance to read back through thread lol)

As for spring compressor you should be able to get away with a lever type compressor with the limited access. They anchor off the rocker bolt boss and you push the lever to relieve the spring pressure from the valve stem.

Best to spend the $150 on the gear to save yourself $600 on a cam though Imo

How to bypass the immobiliser, don't want the car towed to the locksmith!

Yes. You need to unlock the vehicle using the original keyfob first. This will not work with the immobiliser activated.

    1999 VS SIII S 5.0 Ute

Yep I don’t know why people struggle so much with the dizzy either lol. I just put an old pillow on the manifold and lay down over the engine. As for the chain, you’ll need an adjustable timing set and you’ll need to degree the cam in. There’s no point spending the time, money and effort to fit...

Works providing you have the original, working keyfob.

Yes I’d like to hear a video of the new cam too. Thanks.

Speak to a locksmith or contact Holden. You won't find this sort of advice on the internet for good reason.

    Losh's VR Ute build thread

Springs too stiff can cause excess valvetrain stress/wear anyway and reduce efficiency. So you may even be better off with the springs you have (putting the cost concerns aside).

Identifying diff M78 or m80 in VX V6

Personally I’d buy a 3 bolt tailshaft (cost next to nothing because they’re everywhere) and fit that. There is the risk of crushing the crush spacer and ruining the bearings and gearset if you overtighten.
  16. EYY

Identifying diff M78 or m80 in VX V6

I thought it was only the l98/LS2 VZ that had the larger coupling, and all pre 6L couplings were the same (assuming 3 bolt)? I'm probably wrong though, I've never had much to do with vt-vz v6's.

Identifying diff M78 or m80 in VX V6

No just bolt it in providing you have a 3 bolt tailshaft.

How not to built an L67

Yeah l67 torque is still around, I just logged on for the first time in over 5 years lol. Not much happening over there really - but there wasn’t much happening when I joined either.

How not to built an L67

Man I miss the sc days - there were some awesome ride threads on there among all the bullshit. Was great to have the leaderboards of the forced induction 6’s up there too - I found it very interesting. Haven’t heard about FIT in a long time. Wonder what happened there.

How not to built an L67

I saw one of the old YT test engines in person a couple of years back and no crank support from memory. Had very serious work done to it apparently and made some serious power.
  22. EYY

Identifying diff M78 or m80 in VX V6

Yep depends on what you want. Personally if I were spending the money on having a diff built and buying all new gears and bearings, I’d go 3.7’s or shorter because I’d really want to feel the difference. But since you can easily find m80 lsd centres with 3.46 gears for reasonable prices...

Identifying diff M78 or m80 in VX V6

You don’t need to change tyre sizes. The lighter the rim/tyre combo the better. Better acceleration and braking ;) 3.45 is still good - means you still drop down to 2nd at wot with the auto at approx 100kmph and good for overtaking at highway speeds.
  24. EYY

Identifying diff M78 or m80 in VX V6

I wouldn’t even hesitate to go 4.11 personally. Anywhere from 3.45 to 4.11 is great. I was going to go 3.9’s again, but found new 3.7’s cheap and they’ll do the job just fine.

How not to built an L67

Definitely doomed from the beginning then. I’m keen to see people taking a gamble on used parts or strange combos, but don’t really see the point of exceeding known safe lift by a huge margin when it’s pretty much guaranteed failure.

How not to built an L67

I’d be surprised if that chain was the cause of engine failure. More likely something else was the cause Engine may have ingested something (wouldn’t be surprised based on those vids lol), or cam timing was off and pistons were grazing valves, or valve spring pressures were incorrect (float)...

Vt roller motor in 96 vs wagon

Seems that the crow 4903 is about as big as you can go with minimal mods. You’d need roller rockers, springs/locks/retainers, coated cam gear, timing set etc. you can get away without a Histall but stall will always help.
  28. EYY

Vt roller motor in 96 vs wagon

With parts availability for the Vs maf based stuff, it’s probably your only option. Btw, don’t be tempted to fit a flat tappet cam in place of the roller cam. Saw a bloke on Facebook the other week trying to *upgrade* from a stock roller cam to a crane 276 (flat tappet) which is actually a...

    Vf2 LS3 1 3/4 VS 1 7/8 Extractors

Dyno is just a tuning tool- not useful for comparison in most cases. I’ve been in 200rwkw commodores that have creamed 300+rwkw commodores that were run on different dyno’s as an example.

VT verses VN to VS heads

Don’t bother with alloy heads for a streeter unless you come across them at a really good price - spend the money on reco/porting for the iron heads.
  32. EYY

Vt roller motor in 96 vs wagon

You just need a Vn-Vs intake manifold for the iat sensor, other than that it’s plug and play.
  33. EYY

Vt roller motor in 96 vs wagon

You can only run the vt computer if you have a Vs s3 maf loom (very difficult to come across and very expensive). Best/easiest way is to use a 424 pcm from map based VS. You won’t notice a performance decrease from the map based engine management.

    ULP into Duramax motor

Apparently most damage is done when mixed 50-50 because the the engine can still run seemingly well whilst doing severe engine damage. Not the case when there is 70-80%+ petrol vs diesel. They’ll generally run very poorly (more apparent warning) with ulp as the main fuel. Apparently smaller...

    Auto gearbox strength

You’ll break things in a manual if you clutch drop every shift and bang it into gear too. Shock loading will kill everything, not just the transmission. Not really the transmissions fault in your case
  37. EYY

    Auto gearbox strength

I think that’s mainly an issue when they’re rebuilt by ‘parts replacers’. Setting clearances properly (including machining bushings) is apparently the key to making them last long term. There are so many good parts out there for them now - it’s just a matter of finding somebody that knows how to...
  38. EYY

    Auto gearbox strength

Nothing wrong with them when they’re properly modded. Just need decent converter, shift kit, accumulators, high rpm spring kit and cooler. It’s just that most people spend heaps of money on tune/exhaust/intake/cam etc and expect an old auto to handle the abuse.

    LS1 extractors

I had 4-1 hurricane headers with 1 7/8 primaries on my ss and didn’t scrape anywhere, but they were close to the rack. Sounded awesome. Cammed etc etc. much better sound than the smaller headers imo. It screamed when you wanted it to but was still easy to live with
