Bought a VT - Loud exhaust

If you want to get pulled over all the time then go for it. Otherwise think "stealth mode" and make it more comfortable to drive... and no tickets.

Dim low beam headlights - are driving lights/daytime running lights a solution? Is there a solution?

Have you checked the voltage at the lights? Various Commodores we have had had crap lights. VK was worst. Just upgraded my VN Calais, bigger wires from the main fuses, through the relays to the bulbs. Factory did a really crap job, 5 @ 14(?)awg wires crimped to 1@ 14awg wire for power...

    Adventra LX8 seats... same as??

Thankyou for the answer I was after. The owner has been quoted $5000 for a new seat! Sounds like someone was getting a holiday out of it... I'm not afraid to pull stuff to bits just don't want to waste time and his money ending up with too many bits!

    LS1 Valve Stem Seals

I bought the one piece units from Summit Racing, cheaper than anywhere else.

    Adventra LX8 seats... same as??

I don't want to swap bits, I want to swap seats with the same seat from a different Calais. Is the LX8 seat identical (less covering) to any other Calais?

    Adventra LX8 seats... same as??

I've welded the frame back together, motors are fine, cover is crook down the right side, foam has collapsed cause the car is so high the edge of the seat cops all yer weight as you exit the vehicle and the plastic side cover has lost all its mounting clips/tabs etc... again cause of all yer...

    Adventra LX8 seats... same as??

G'day, mates VY Adventra LX8 needs a new drivers seat. Being Calais spec will seats from any other Calais from similar models be the same, as in fully electric. It has at least three electric motors with no manual adjustment at all. Bloody heavy too! Cheers!

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

The MGR118 are longer than factory, 165 is correct. And yeah... what customer service?? "got yer money, go away"
  9. Dave6179

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

Thats the bugger!!! Thanks for the info, dunno why ARCHM Bayswater couldn't find that out from Monroe??? You lot have a bloody good weekend!
  10. Dave6179

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

Yeah that looks similar. Shock specialist here showed me one that looked like it would fit, but only had one! If I could find out what other make/model uses them I would checkout Pickapart! Cheers.
  11. Dave6179

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

The fitting seems to be welded/fused to the tube. Same as the screw fitting on the old ones. ARCHM sold them to him, they have gone silent!

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

    Thanks for that! Just emailed.

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

Cheers. The connector on the shock looks similar to an airhose (compressor) fitting. Inside dia is the same as original, all lines I believe are factory although the plastic screw on "nut" only compresses the O rings, as in nothing is captive on the air line. Owner needs it back soon as. And...

VN 3.8l V6 commodore won't start after oil change.

oil too thick? I use 5w/30 like the book says. Mine shut off when lost oil pressure due to NO rear main seal and the glue failed! Yep, the rear seal area had been glued, failed at 187.000km, bought it at 125.000km.
  15. Dave6179

    Monroe gas risers, fittings changed.

G'day all. Mates '04 Adventra needed new rears gas risers. MGR165 were bought but the airline fittings have changed from the threaded style to a pushlock style. Anyone found the same issue? I've emailed the people I bought them off but they must be real busy... Any part numbers or other vehicles...

    NO rear crank seal???

Seen that vid, and many others. Only have a groove in the block and cap. And yeah, too late to machine for something else. About a 3 week wait just for them to look at it!
  17. Dave6179

    NO rear crank seal???

Right, I think I know why seals are being left out. They don't fit. Full gasket set from Auto Surplus, 2 piece rope seal is way too thick. I even tried one from a 202 (same dia journals) but similar issue. Any more than finger tight on the bolts and the crank won't rotate! Any ideas? I've...

    NO rear crank seal???

My HJ stopped better, until I fitted a BW78 disc diff.

    NO rear crank seal???

Shitfuckery, new word of the day! I've been through the car top to bottom over the years, no other issues to note. Just the factory crap... brakes, steering, lousy earth wiring. Been a bloody good car!
  20. Dave6179

    NO rear crank seal???

Yeah, after 11/90. Mine is earlier.
  21. Dave6179

    NO rear crank seal???

S1 V6 VN crank sensor **** itself, while being dragged onto a flatdeck I saw a puddle of engine oil where the car was. Never had a leak like that before. Long story not as long, engine out, pulled down to its undies. and NO rear rope seal at all! Quite a lot of rather hard sealer around the...

VN interior and ignition key lights.

No, switches well hidden from being hit. I removed all the switches and checked for continuity etc, found some corrosion behind the screw heads, all cleaned but didn't fix it.
  23. Dave6179

VN interior and ignition key lights.

G'day all. Just relined the roof lining in VN Calais. Now the lights won't turn off automatically as normal. Didn't touch anything else unrelated to removing the lining, and refitted everything as it was, I'm anal like that! I've removed the interior light bulb and will take out the key light...

Are VT coil packs and dfi better than VP ones?

Oh okay. I have a new factory replacement coil, still waiting for the original unit to kark it. Only done 197,000.

Are VT coil packs and dfi better than VP ones?

Is all this effort really worth it??

VT front Brake upgrade for VN.

Installed it all today. Cut the double flares off, made the ball flares (or whatever they are called) Will have it sorted tomorrow. Same master as 'her' VX SS, which feels like it has a bit more rear brake.... will letchas know!

VT front Brake upgrade for VN.

Just trying to do the VT booster/mstr cyl on my N. Have a spare car to try it out first... all bolts up as factory! No new brackets needed! Only thing I do need is the line adaptors to the mstr cyl. So far BQ40A seems to be the one, but the pics on EBay don't look right. Going to a brake...

    Headlight upgrade... again.

    Any more thoughts?

Single or twin zorst on 3.8.

Final update... can't be buggered doing anymore! Moved the 2 into 1 collector further forwards, about a factory collector's worth. It seems the shorter the secondary pipes the better... the 'reversion' noise is gone, still pulls like a schoolboy, nice and 'family friendly' quiet. With the...

    Headlight upgrade... again.

Cheers, but no. Still good though, I did the same to our VK we had... night into day! I've tried the obvious on the VN with no luck. I tested the double relay and it's fine. Can't know why it's being difficult. Must be a 25 year old teenager.

    Headlight upgrade... again.

G'day you fullas. I read an old thread on fitting a double relay and bigger bulbs some time ago. You think I can find it??? Need to have better lights! I have the double relay, and top notch bulbs including the driving light bulbs. Just can't bloody find the thread! I've attempted to fit them...

Single or twin zorst on 3.8.

Well, she reckons it's down a little on go with the 2". Still need to find the cause of the noise. Could be the wrong muffler design??
  33. Dave6179

Single or twin zorst on 3.8.

Update. Replaced the two 2.25 with 2". Same long uneven length, FlowMaster muffler now, 'reversion' type noise a bit quieter and now between 3000 and 3500rpm. What I did find was the factory 2 into 1 collector is very good... loads better than I expected, so put it back as it was the right size...

    Borgwarner non lsd oil.

Just drained the wifes VN... crook wheel bearings, time for oil change. Also dark, green and sticky. Bugger to clean out! Refilled with a mix of 80/90 and 85/140. No where near as thick as what came out.
  35. Dave6179

    Borgwarner non lsd oil.

G'day you fullas. Pulled two BW diffs apart recently, both had thick dark green oil in them. Am I right in thinking someone reckoned it may have been Castrol LSX90? I'm putting the VN one back together to go under my HJ, and will need oil soon. I've also drilled/tapped and fitted a drain...

Single or twin zorst on 3.8.

Oh, it holds gears longer, likes to rev. At 80km/h with the factory front pipe it would not kick down... mash it and wait. Now it'll drop to 2nd at 95, go to 120, and still in 3rd at 150. Can't believe how it drives now.
  37. Dave6179

Single or twin zorst on 3.8.

New front pipes in. Twin 2.25 from the stractas, nice and long... still not even but buggerall room, to the single 2.5 under the passenger seat. Nuther increase, but a sound like turbo wastegate between 2800 and 3800, figure the 2 into 1 collector I made is not smooth enough... reversion. Have...

Single or twin zorst on 3.8.

The missus is in Auckland again, should put another 400 to 500ks on it. Has already told me it now doesn't care what a hill is, impressed again! Thing is, I've only enlarged it from the rear flange behind the cat convertor (or where it used to live) So still have to replace the 'y' joint and...

    Question about springs

Spring insulators reduce road noise into the cabin. Leave them there! I found better insulators than the ones I had.... didn't know till then how important they were. And, too low is a pain in the ass! Sacrifice looks for 'user friendliness'. Day to day you will understand, forget what yer...
