Looking at buying a VN SS

Well, a VN SS should look like this (including fog lights): Things to look for: check the rear main seal for oil leaks (since it's made from rope) and make sure the lock-up torque converter doesn't cause vibrations at 1500-1800 rpm. There's a longer list at...

    Recalls & Faults - VE Commodore (2006-2013)

Apologies if I'm reviving an old thread... The oil separator is part of the crankcase ventilation system and its purpose is to remove oil particles from blow-by gases and return the oil to the sump. Generally, they use cyclonic separation. As stated in the article, the catch can receives...

    best vs commodore sedan

As mentioned, the VS Series II Commodore had the M35 Getrag transmission ('Getrag 260') rather than the Borg Warner M39 T5 of the Series I. Power windows were never standard for the Executive (I learnt to drive in one), but the interior of the VS Series II Commodore was updated. Details...

    HBD(Holden By Design)

HBD (Holden by Design) was the name given to a range of cosmetic accessories that Holden offered. For the VU Ute, I'd guess that it may have included side skirts and badges. Not sure what else.

Nice work Kizza. But at the risk of being pedantic, I think it's Heron White.

Difference of storm s and s

The Thunder S also had 18-inch alloy wheels and Anthracite (black) leather seats - check the VY Ute review again. Since it's based on the S, it should also have the LSD. Cheers.

Difference of storm s and s

Broadly, I agree with SavVYute, but I'm not sure about the Storm utes missing out on the limited differential. The Storm utes were also fitted with a front passenger airbag. Try these: Holden VY Ute Review Holden VZ Ute Review The reviews above also have links to the Holden Media archive.

Is my V6 VZ in need of attention?

I'm not an expert, but problems with the O2 sensor sound like a distinct possibility. From Holden VZ Commodore Recalls and Problems: For models with V6 engines produced before October 2004, the left oxygen sensor wiring may fail due to its proximity to the exhaust manifold heat shield.

    vf hsv exhaust

Yes. From HSV Gen-F ClubSport Review: "While the ClubSport engine initially produced 317kW, the ClubSport R8 engine produced 325kW due to its high-flow exhaust system which included X-pipe intermediate and bi-modal mufflers." I can't answer your second question.

What VN series do I have?

Hi Neil, based on the 127kW, it sounds like a post-November 1990 engine - these are known as the EV6 or L27. These engines have EV6 printed on the engine block, but I'm not sure where. There's some useful information here: Holden VN Commodore review

Looking at buying VF SSV Redline

Hi graphicgoose, thanks for the post - some interesting comparisons. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the VF SS. supercharged / commodore question

I don't know about the LG2 code, but the supercharged V6 engines were introduced for the VS Series II Calais, Statesman and Caprice - they weren't officially available for the VS Series II Commodore, though I guess a special order could be possible.

I don't doubt that you were watching, but Geelong's strategy in the second and third quarters was completely different to the way they started. This changed the course of the match and Hawthorn's style of play. Ultimately, however, Geelong couldn't sustain their intensity. If scoring shots are...

    VN, Are they really bad?

If you'd asked this question 20 years ago, I imagine that the consensus would be to get a VP (or at least a late VN since there were lots of running changes during its production). But since you're talking about a car that is 20+ years old, I'd suggest that its condition is the most important...

In Hawthorn v Geelong, I think Clarkson got out-coached. Scott's strategy for the first quarter was to get numbers behind the ball, restrict scoring and let Hawthorn play their high possession, accurate kicking game. From the second quarter on, Geelong stopped having numbers behind the ball...

why was VT so heavy (compated to older models)?

I remember Ford Australia once purchasing and inspecting a Holden VX or VY (?) Commodore because they were surprised by the low kerb weight. When they weighed it, they discovered that the Commodore was heavier than the officially quoted figure and that Holden was quoting dry weights.

Car will not start (starter motor?)

This is just a guess, but could it be the fuel pump relay? To test, see if the low beam headlights work - they are on the same relay as the fuel pump, so if the headlights work, you can eliminate the fuel pump relay as the problem. Another guess: crank angle sensor. I know these were more of a...

Looking at Buying a VTII clubbie bit of advise please?

The VT.II ClubSport was one of the first local applications of the LS1 engine and there were quite a few problems with these - see http://wikicars.net.au/reviews.php#!content=recalls&make=HSV&model=ClubSport&gen=399 If the budget can stretch, I'd recommend a VX.II or later. Holden shut down...

Help! Buying a VE need advice

I've never heard of a systematic problem with the transmissions - unless anyone here knows better, I'd say your brother is making stuff up. If you want a large RWD car with some luxury features, the Calais is a good choice. And if anything goes wrong, it should be a lot cheaper to fix than...

    Thinking of buying a VR/VS statesman V8

Have you considered the supercharged V6? It was introduced for the VS Series II in September 1996 and, as far as I can tell, towing capacity for all VS Statesman engines was 2100 kg. The official performance figures for the supercharged V6 aren't that different from the V8 and I remember people...

Respectfully, I disagree. Jolly has been struggling with injuries for the past two years and is not the player he once was. Perhaps he was never fully fit this season, but his mobility has been poor and his leap non-existent. He's also lost the ability to go forward and kick goals. Grundy is the...

Why do many denigrate the Alloytech?

While the Alloytec had significant technological upgrades from the old 3.8-litre Ecotec V6, its performance and economy wasn't a great leap forward (particularly in the heavier VE) and it's a higher maintenance engine. I think there was also an issue with Alloytec camshafts for early VE models.

Looking at 2006 vz ss utes, what's the differance ss, thunder, ssz

    what will replace the VF

For Elizabeth to be viable, Holden needs to maximise production volumes. Having followed this for a while, I expect that the Commodore will be replaced in 2018 by a mid-size, FWD sedan (i.e. a replacement for the Malibu). But this won't happen unless government subsidies are sufficient since...

Looking at 2006 vz ss utes, what's the differance ss, thunder, ssz

A key difference between the SS and SS Thunder is that the Thunder had the L98 engine (270kW) and the SS had the L76 (260kW). The first Thunders were released in March 2006 and had 18-inch alloy wheels, colour-coded leather seats and a hard tonneau cover. But the Thunders were released again in...

Agreed. When Hardwick went to Richmond, I think he started by trying to implement a version of Clarkson's cluster, but gave up and went for man-on-man so that players would learn from contests and he'd know who could cut it. With all the pressure that Neeld is under, the focus seems to be on...
