Trip Meter Resets on its own! VX2

Might also sound dumb but check your battery. When mine was almost dead it would reset my head unit and cluster every time I started the engine haha

Off the shelf single din switch panel?

Might be a little 'racecar' for me.... the P plates attract enough negative attitude :P Black fits in with my interior a bit better than CF I reckon, and I plan on having a few more switches than that. Thanks for the link though mate, I'm glad these kind of things exist :)

Beautiful! That should do the job nicely. Thanks mate!

Off the shelf single din switch panel?

Hey guys, I'm looking to install some switches in my car without being too destructive (ie drilling the dash) I have a free DIN slot, and was wondering if anyone had seen any off-the-shelf single DIN switch panels? I'm not really handy with DIY, so making a panel myself would result in...

    advice centre for young drivers

Given how so many young people pronounce it CUNstable to be 'funny', I prefer to avoid saying it ever. Whenever I get pulled over (P plates, Commodore, do the math) I just say "G'day Mate" and they're always happy. Yup, best course of action. Have a few family friends who are cops including...

    Shooters, Archers and Bladesmen Unite!

That is a beautiful knife, I've always loved S&W products. Did it cost an arm and a leg? Also where did you pick it up? I'd love to get one

VT S1 Clock Spring Compatibility question

Hey guys, another newbie question here. I'm interested in replacing the clock spring in my VT S1, in order to install steering wheel audio controls. Only question I haven't managed to find an answer for is, is the Clock Spring from a VT Series 2 or VX compatible with a VT Series 1? I...

    Shooters, Archers and Bladesmen Unite!

That's fair enough, definitely not for everyone. It's pretty time consuming and costly, especially for those of us with other expensive hobbies. For the curious, If you have a local club, I'm sure they would be happy to show you around and probably give you a few shots. It's a great way to...

    Shooters, Archers and Bladesmen Unite!

Anyone here do much pistol shooting? (sorry if I've missed it, but ain't nobody got time to read 48 pages) Already had Category A,B + C longarms license and just picked up my provisional Handgun license a week ago. Target pistol shooting is a sport I really can't recommend enough to anyone...

    Hum/vibration from rear

I have a very similar issue in my VT, was told by my local Holden dealer that "there's no way it's an issue with the auto"... Since then have had Engine mounts, exhaust brackets and a few misc parts replaced but still have this strange hesitation and noise. I'd honestly almost given up on...

    I Got a Samsung S5

It is pretty clear since the colour of the message bubbles changes, but not clear enough for some people who want to pay as little attention as possible :rofl2:

    I Got a Samsung S5

Dunno if you've used an iPhone with iMessage enabled before, but by default the phone will send iMessages in place of SMS, it isn't a user choice. To send SMS instead is a user decision. The issue is on Apple's part, not on the people who may not even be aware of the issue. I see this so...

Change what lights flash with central locking

I've seen this done before on factory fog lights, doesn't look too bad. I wouldn't recommend this mod though, especially on any spotlights as it would still be illegal use of Fog/Driving Lights. (Source) Factory lights you could probably get away with, but any Police officer that catches a...

    Central Locking - Quick Question

The VX can not do this from factory. It is not a fault. This could be done DIY with a few relays but I reckon it would be more effort than it it's worth. An auto elec could set this up for you, not sure on the cost though. Edit: The Calais/Berlina might have (dunno) but the Exec doesn't.

    USB 2 or USB 3

Fat32 can't handle any single file being over 4GB (which is very rarely an issue) so to "fix" this fat32 isn't offered as a format option by default anymore. More a PITA for people like Banjo who can't use their USB's in cars/tv's

    Vin code decoder

I'm pretty sure there isn't from the VIN, as Executive, SS and S all show as the same luxury level. You could go to a Holden dealer and ask them to check, as I'm pretty sure they can do it, but that would likely be your only option.

    Vin code decoder

https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/how-to-check-your-vin.113858 The K stands for executive level (same as S) the 69 stands for sedan, check the article I linked for more details but I don't think you'll be able to tell from just the VIN

How To Wire Up LED Lights To The Interior Light - 2001 VX Acclaim

How To Wire Up LED Lights To The Interior Light - 2001 VX Acclaim

Drivers side B (middle) pillar is the best place to access these wires. Under the carpet is probably your best bet, meaning removing the seats might make the job easier. Remember don't turn on the car with the seats unplugged or you'll get an airbag error warning  Also leave plenty...

What colour is the executive stock dash?

Hi guys, I'm in the process of gathering the parts to install power windows into my VT Exec. I'm looking for the the trim piece that goes around the shifter and under the Cigarette lighter (Like This Piece). My only question is, does anyone know what the Stock VT executive dash colour was...

VF Commodore fixes ( Take note GMH. )

Pretty sure someone mentioned this as fixed not more than a few days ago.. Might only be on newly manufactured cars though. Edit: Found it https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/vf-holden-commodore-issues-faults-59.219460/post-2618921

    USB 2 or USB 3

NTFS won't help mate, put it in fat32, you can use the tool Fat32Formatter (Fat32Formatter). The USB will work unless it uses an unruly amount of current.
  25. kyled2012

    USB 2 or USB 3

They all are, USB is Forwards and Backwards compatible from 1.0 to 3.1, the only difference is the speed and current output. It's not a manufacturer requirement at all.

Can I keep both DRL and headlights on at the same time?

I'm fairly sure that's been since amended. HSV Gen F's and lots of euro cars have DRLs dimmed when headlights are on, from factory.
  27. kyled2012

Can I keep both DRL and headlights on at the same time?

I agree that the instant difference may not be noticeable in L/100. I'd like to see a comparison of running low-beams vs led DRLs for an extended period but even a small reduction would make a big difference when 50k or more cars have adopted LEDs.

    USB 2 or USB 3

Hey mate, USB3 is perfectly backwards compatible, meaning your USB3 stick will work fine in the VF. It's pretty likely to be USB2 in the VF but it will work fine. A hub probably won't work the way you want, because a USB port can only put out a limited amount of power, which may not be enough...

Can I keep both DRL and headlights on at the same time?

Sarcasm? From electrical experts.... and science? LED DRL's use much less power than the previous tradition of using two low beam headlights (55 watts each on a Commodore) instead as DRL's. This in turn will reduce power consumption and, in turn, fuel consumption and emissions (Actual...

VT S1 to VX S2 mirror compatibility?

Hey guys, I have a White VT S1 with the standard black mirrors, and I have stumbled upon a cheap set of Heron white mirrors in really good nick. Problem is, the mirrors are off a 2001 VX, and I know VT1's had quite a few parts which weren't compatible with VT2 onwards (Door looms, power mirror...

DRL dimmed with headlights on (How to Guide)

The fact that most euro's and all Gen-F HSV's only dim the DRL's when headlights come on makes it reasonably believable that this will be fine. Also sounds like the laws you are quoting are more specific to Fog lights and Spotties, rather than DRL. I would bet that Euro's driving through SA at...

DRL dimmed with headlights on (How to Guide)

The Gen-F HSV's do this, and so do most euro's with DRLS. I like the look, and it increases night time visibility without being blinding. In my opinion, it's mostly a personal taste modification.

    vz antenna height buttons

I'm pretty sure the standard electric antennae didn't support adjustable height, and the Calais & Statesman actually had a different model of electric antenna which supported adjustable height. Please correct me if I'm wrong, that's just how I remember it.

[General] [VR/VS/VT/VX/VY/VZ] Everything to know about ALDL Diagnostic Cables

Hey mate, this thread is awesome! It answered heaps of my questions. About to buy one of your cables off eBay haha. Good work!
  38. kyled2012

    obd1 or 2

As DLFHUB666 said, it's ALDL Data attached to an OBD2 plug. OBD2 scantools/cables will not connect to pre-VZ V6 models. If you are looking for a USB cable for the car, This One will do the trick. The V6, L67 and 5L should all be fine with that, but LS1 isn't AFAIK.
