Best way to learn how to repair rust and respray

Thanks so much guys!! My current plan is to talk to a body shop about the painting and see if I can do the body/prep work first. I think most of the rust is surface with the exception on around the rear window, will need to look into how to tackle that one. I had the engine out last year and...

Best way to learn how to repair rust and respray

Hi All, My VK has a bit of rust that needs seeing to. I don't have the budget to pay for someone else to repair and haven't tackled this sort of repair yet. Pretty much everything I do on the VK is a learning experience(which is part of the reason I bought the car). I was wondering if anyone...

Alternator and EST light and 16 volts

Thanks for that, had no idea the old girl had an ecu of any sort. I unpluged the EST box and seemed to sort it out, no more EST light at least and more constant voltage reading on the dash. Is it safe to assume the IGN (ignition?) fuse is purely for the EST system? It looks like the...

Alternator and EST light and 16 volts

Hi Guys, After some advice again. I've recently replaced my alternator, connected with b+ and d+ cables I realised it wasn't charging. Checking the wiring it appears ok. I the checked the fuse box and found the IGN system fuse blown. I replaced that one and battery appears to be...

Installing Saas GT seats into VK

Is it just the rails themselves(not the entire sliding/seat pilots ironing adjustment mechanism which appears to be part of the seat)? I had a look and couldn't see any obvious way to remove them, any tips? Thanks for your suggestion Cheers Evan

Installing Saas GT seats into VK

Hi Guys, I've picked up a pair of Saas seats which came with rails to suit a wrx (completely different to the vk). Just wondering what the done thing is to install these into the early girls. I've had a search and a few threads talk about generic mounting kits from Supercheap and the like...

    Gear stick boot/surround - 6cyc vs v8 - is there a difference?

Thanks, it's been bugging me for ages. Found one on ebay which has it sorted now. For what it's worth, the old one was for a 4 speed as well so maybe same as 5speed (think the old gear box was mc6 to suit the 202). Cheers Evan

    Gear stick boot/surround - 6cyc vs v8 - is there a difference?

I have the new boot fitted now, pretty worn but it fits properly. Just one more question on the gear stick surround. The gear stick goes about about 2-3cm into where the plastic is, meaning when fitted I can't move the gearstick into 1st or 3rd. Was there different versions of the...

    VB-VK section quiet?

This forum is my goto place for advice on my vk. Gear stick boot/surround - 6cyc vs v8 - is there a difference?

thanks guys. I found one that's a bit knocked around(hole in it) on ebay this afternoon, at least it should be a better fit than the current one. Will hang onto it for a T5 gearbox in the future. Cheers Evan

    Gear stick boot/surround - 6cyc vs v8 - is there a difference?

    Gear stick boot/surround - 6cyc vs v8 - is there a difference?

Hi My VK had the engine and gearbox ocnverted from 202 with M76 to a VL v8 with M20 gear box. The lower gearstick boot appears to fit ok but doesn't stay on. Is it likely that there's a different boot for the M20 gearbox or do these simply stretch and wear out with age? If I fit the...

trouble shooting 308 down on power under load

had a chance to spend some time with it today. There's something that I thought may have been a filter on the inlet, a circular(maybe 5cm round) part screwed into the inlet which also had a return line back to the petrol tank(wasn't expecting that for a carb, the engine was originally out of a...

Awesome, thanks Ari and J-man I'd like to rebuild the carb in the near future, your link will be invaluable. I have checking fuel lines and pressure, replacing the dizzy and checking the carby on my to do list for the weekend. I think I'll need that optional beer. Cheers Evan

trouble shooting 308 down on power under load

Actually, fuel is a good thought, I really hadn't considered it aside from a quick check of the carb to see fuel was making it's way through. Is there a way I can check fuel pressure?

Hi Guys, Was hoping you might be able to give me some ideas about what to look for. My vk 308 black motor feels sluggish and is jerky and slow when driving. Idling sounds ok, no missing but I don't think increasing revs it's as responsive as it was. It pretty much went from running fine...

    Battery/alternator problem

Here's a pick of my alt, Something I've missed before is a electrical connection labelled 'W' All up there's B+ D+ (which had a spade connector running to a capacitor which then looks like it earths onto the body of the alternator via the screw where D- is). D- W and 2 extra pins of the...

    Battery/alternator problem

Ah, that sounds like it could be it, Mine is a carb v8 so no ecu, there's 2 pin socket on top of it for vn onwards, I'll have a go at shorting those The wiring instructions are pretty light on the detail and wiring is different to my old alternator.

Hi Guys, My battery has been boiling so replaced the alternator last weekend. The wiring's a bit different and I've just used the B+, there's a d+ which has a connector to a capacitor on the alternator plus 2 pins on top. Alt says it's for vk-vs commodores. The battery reads 12.2 volts...

Gearbox gear selection and speedo/tacho questions

Thanks guys, I've figured out the speedo cable is broken, new one ordered today. Gearbox gear selection and speedo/tacho questions

I pulled the dash out again today and checked the speedo cable, I pulled it out and there's a 4 sided plastic pin separate from the cable, should this be joined to the speedo cable? Checking it out it looks like the end may have sheared off but I can't be sure. Re: tacho, I realise I need a...

What sway bar size and adjustable or fixed?

I've recently changed from standard to 30mm front, 22mm rear. I use the car for motorkhana, khanacross & autocross events, not a daily driver but it does get driven to and from the track I wouldn't say the ride is to stiff for street. At this stage I'd say it's improved balance and reduced...

bmw wheels on the vk causing steering problem

I've had a look and the rims are hard up against the hub. The fronts fit perfectly and the rears are pushed back against the vertical edge of the hub, but there's a small gap in the centre. I might need to get to a tyre shop and order some centric hub rings for whatever size they are, fronts...
