Mod Advice For SSV Redline Auto Ute

^^^ It's actually my work ute, so need it at the office every day. Drive to work each way is approx 3kms each way, but that doesn't include visiting customers & other random stuff - Like going fishing on the weekends :P Just want to make sure that anything I do isn't going to drastically...

Mod Advice For SSV Redline Auto Ute

Hi All Looking for a bit of advice when it comes to finding / doing the right mods to my ute. Have done a bit of research on the forum, but as someone who isn’t technically minded & as everyone’s needs are different, it looks as though more of a tailored option :P My ute is an SSV Redline...

    VE SSV ESP issue

I'm no expert, but it sounds like the ESP is doing it's thing... That is assuming you're pushing it pretty hard around the bend.

2010 SSV Auto Exhaust / Head Unit Questions

Interested to see what info can be dug up about the reversing camera as I'm interested in getting one installed on my ute. Last time I did a bit of research on it, you could buy genuine GM kits which were somewhere around the $600.00 mark + install. Have absolutely no idea what's involved, but...

    How Much? 2010 ve ute

Have a bit of a look what Redbook.com.au says. Always a good reference point to start with before seeing what others are asking on Carsales. The 2nd hand market hasn't been strong for many years (A real buyers market that's for sure). Just remember, what people are asking for their cars on...

Are you guys referring to the "auto kick" function?

    Sports Armour

I didn't think it was that expensive... Picked up mine for around the $250.00 mark from memory & install was so easy I could do it! I actually got it because I had a few nasty scraps on the front of mine courtesy of those concrete blocks in car parks & it covered it up perfectly. Looks great...

I've got an MY10 SS-V S2 Redline ute & both front windows go up & down automatically.

    VF SSV Redline Exhaust

Unsure if there was any visual difference, but remember the VE autos with AFM did have a different rear muffler to the manual versions to prevent droning when AFM kicked in. That being said, as others have commented, they are the same... VF is effectively the same as the VE under the skin :)

    Mylink with an Android phone

I'm actually waiting for delivery on a Cruze SRI-V which has the same My Link system. Tried to pair with my Android phone (Sony Xperia Z with the latest firmware) & it linked up fine, but couldn't Bluetooth stream & despite what the dealer said, it wouldn't give me access to my contacts list -...

Wider wheels on VE SS ute

I've got Clubsport wheels on my SS-V Ute running the factory sized rubber... Looks like it was ment to come that way :) For reference, the VF SS-V Redlines now come with the staggered off set running the 275 wide rears.

VE V8 with FACTORY LPG ?

^^^ All E3 HSV had the LPG option. Can't say I know many people who ticked that box (Never seen one pop up for sales new or used), but I probably would have seriously considered it given LPG has advance a fair amount over the last few years. If you really want to buy a Holden, it might be...

    VE S2 IQ Issues

Hi All I know issues with the IQ systems have been discussed in multiple threads, but thought this one warranted a new one. Might be worth mentioning, that I'm running an MY13 map update & the firmware of the IQ system was the latest revision when it was in for service in June this year...

replacement VE HSV brake logo info

I was going to say eBay will be your best bet as a fair few of my EVO driving mates have obtained Brembo replacements without any dramas. Might I suggest you see if you can get AP Racing ones instead? Don't get me wrong, I love an all original car, but you might be able to find AP Racing ones...

Beef with Holden for lack of Gen 5 VVT Engine in SS!

Interesting read. I'm with the majority... Who cares about VVT. Sure, having improved fuel consumption would be nice, but if you're worried about that, you probably shouldn't be looking at a big V8 in the first place. Sure, there are a few things about the VF / Gen F that aren't great, such as...

Sound system in the VF SS-V Redline?

Can understand if the ute misses out of the bigger better stereo... But can't believe the wagon does! Doesn't sound like a smart move by Holden considering the wagon is a pretty popular option & to me is a far better proposition to a SUV.

What to look for when buying diff

Buying anything 2nd hand comes with a inherent risk. As stated above, if you are dealing with a reputable seller / store, then there should be some sort of after sales support. The only thing that I would mention, is that if you are employing a 3rd party to install (Or you are installing...

Ute likes to downshift while cursing down hill?

This is actually the sign of an auto box actually being good. BMW's & other high end cars have been doing this for some 10 years plus.

VF Faux Suede Dash - Protection/Waterproofing?

Scotch Guard would be my suggestion as it is readily available & easy to use, albeit, I've only really used it as a form of water proofing... Generally on shoes. So things like Opti-Coat as others have suggested may be more suitable for your application.

    Caprice V wheels question

Going to suggest they won't, but hopefully one of our more knowledgeable members will be able to confirm 100%. Why not look at some Redline wheels? They are going pretty cheap these days.

    kilowatt conversion, rw to engine.

If we go back to the 60's during the real muscle car era, the rule of thumb was "Horse power for the track & torque for the street". Of course, their "track" was a drag strip & they didn't have the tuning abilities we have today.

    v8 kilometres?

As it is with buying any used car, there is always a degree of risk involved. As long as the car has a full service history (Preferably with the intermediate 6 month ones done also), you're going to be a safe as you can get. If you are buying used from a dealer, there will be at least a 3...

    kilowatt conversion, rw to engine.

If it helps, on Walkinshaw Newcastle's Hub Dyno, my 2010 SS-V Redline Auto Ute based lined at 290hp running E-Flex. With the VCM OTR, 3inch Catback, HSV headers all tuned up, she got 343hp. Generally speaking (Without knowing all the details to properly convert Hub power to ATW's power), I...

    Bi Modal Air Intake

In reality it may actually increase performance in areas, in the same way bi-modal type exhausts can increase down low performance if designed properly. With all the technology that is going into cars these days, you'd expect they design & develop these things for a reason... I reckon the real...

    Bi Modal Air Intake

This thread was very helpful... I honestly had no idea what the benefit of a bi-modal intake was. Still seems like a bit of a wank to me, but the end result seems to be a more refined car (IE: Noise wise) without compromising performance. Wonder what will happen when they start running the LT1...

Has anyone here ever widened their wheels?

Seeing as it sounds like the safest & likely legal way to do it appears to be a rather expensive exercise, why not look at getting a custom set of 2-3pc rims? Simmons (Now owned by Tempe Tyres) do all sorts of things like that. I still have an original set of their wheels (Before Tempe) - That...

    Fake SSV redline

I'm guessing your's is a sedan / wagon & not a ute...? Sedans & wagons in the early Redline editions all came with the FE3 suspension, but the utes missed out - Mine is a Dec 2010 build & only has FE2. If memory serves me correctly, the Redline utes only started to come with the FE3 suspension...

Has anyone here ever widened their wheels?

What's wrong with getting some HSV rims & running 285's - Which should not involve any scrubbing, rolling, etc etc etc. Also, not that 275's are all that cheap, but when you start getting to 285's +, you're in Porsche tyre land where everything is stupidly expensive!

    Xbox One VS PS4

^^^ I don't spend huge on my PC's these days. Generally a good mid spec one will do well for approx 2 years, then a video card upgrade should keep you going for another year at least. I don't game anywhere as much as I used to, but I like to keep my options open so I don't miss out on a good...

    Ute protection

Guessing you are referring to the section under the rear window? Getting some sort of wrap (Be it coloured or clear) is going to be the best bet. Will obviously help stop scratches :)

    L76 or L98

Wow... Didn't realise there were so many differences between the L76 & L98. Little or not, it's good to know. In my personal experience, I've also found the L76 to be a tad smoother then the L98 (Slightly different came would explain it)... & a reasonable amount smoother then a LS2.

    Fake SSV redline

Redlines are really just upgraded SSV's, so as long as you've got all the gear, I wouldn't worry about it too much. In the final VE Redline Utes, you should have: * Red Brembo brakes (Front only) * FE3 suspension * Polished / Chrome 19 inch wheels If memory serves me correctly, they...

    Xbox One VS PS4

I would normally be a Xbox man, but in this next next Gen range of Consoles I think Sony are going to come out on top... Although, Microsoft did back flip on a lot of the stuff that most gamers didn't like. All that being said, I have both pre-ordered & own pretty much every platform...

    Random steering wheel vibration??

Got to be something to do with the rotors & Sean880 maybe on the money. Generally if you do have a warped rotor, depending on the severity, it will happen at different stages / pressures. I've experienced a situation where it's perfectly normal at light - medium braking pressures, but under...

Fan remains on for 30 seconds after car is turned off?

Most modern cars do this, especially when the car is hot be it because of the climate or being given the berries. In fact, some cars will even turn on the fan when the car is locked just to ensure things aren't getting too hot & bothered. Being winter, unless you've been driving it hard & not...

Engine light on, Safty mode engaged, Running hot!

That's what happens when the financial department gets involved! I've noticed a few people having dramas with the OEM radiators after their cars reach approx 4 years old.

VE Clubsport - Lunges when put into gear?

Yep, completely normal. My general rule with any car, is kick the sucker over & wait at least 10 seconds before putting in gear & moving off. Unless it's stupidly cold, the revs will generally drop within that time.

    Factory (Dealer) wheel alignment out.

Luck of the draw sometimes... My ute still hasn't had an alignment & she's just clocked over 30,000kms!. After approx 20,000kms I took it into my tyre place & they checked it over & said it was perfect... Saved me a few bucks :) As a general rule, when you've got a new car, after approx...
