vx senator heats up at WOT

Cut the stock radiator cover to fit around the OTR if you haven't already, it helps force air through the rad rather than over. Probably not the cause of your problem though. I'd check the water pump as others have said, previous owner/s might not have used proper coolant resulting in fins...

VT is most stolen car of the year

Are they easy to get into or easy to drive off with without the key? If the immobilisers are commonly bypassed then a killswitch would be a good idea. I'd imagine getting around the immob would take too much time and brains for your average smash and grab joyrider... but maybe not.

    need help with lowering.

I like FE2 (S/SS spec) for a daily, they ride and handle pretty well and no problems with legality or speed bumps. Going really low is a lot of compromise just to look cool. You could pick up some used FE2 springs cheap. Holmart often has new genuine FE2 rear shocks for $80/pair too.

Putting in an oil pressure gauge on a vt... got everything i need today

That copper line tends to crack with vibration, use some loops in the line to take up vibration in the direction of engine movement. I prefer the plastic line. But TBH these mechanical gauges are really meant to be used as a temporary hook up for diagnosis rather than permanent installs...

    Oil level warning

Change the oil and put 5.5-6 litres in it. The light is coming on because oil sloshes away from the pickup which is at the front of the sump... not the best design. Keep it at the full mark on the dipstick, no lower. Mine (VTII) starts dropping pressure when booted in first unless it's at...

    T56 6 spd Oil recommendations?

Gold Coast, cold temps? You jest! haha Castrol Transmax Z is an old tried and true favourite, but any synthetic dexron 3 type ATF should work well. Lots of people have had good luck with the Penrite 70w gear oil (Pro Gear 70 i think they call it). It's the same viscosity as ATF. Thin...

    Fuel Problems LS1 into VL

Yep 58 psig, constant gauge pressure (not manifold referenced). You need to remove the vacuum line from the regulator and set it for 58 psi. Assuming stock ecu. What pump are you running? Decent Walbro etc should be fine, standard VL pump probably won't be up to it. I like the idea of an...

    OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner/plug (Bluetooth versions)

I have a bluetooth $15 ebay one, works fine for reading live data. You can't read/clear codes with them on VT-VY though unless you're willing to do some hacking. VZ is OBD2 compliant and works out of the box. VYII might, not sure where they fall.

    Guesses???

Dynos read all over the place anyway so may as well just pick anywhere from 210-240 rwkw and draw a line on a bit of paper :idea3: What matters is how it goes and sounds. Is the stock catback one of the dual ones or dual into single? The single 2-1/4 sections are pretty restrictive, if it's...

A/C works great, for around 1 to 2 hours.

+1... you'd need gauges to diagnose it. To work on it yourself properly though you'd also need a vacuum pump, refrigerant, oil, dye or leak detector, etc, and there are in theory big fines for letting r134a go, it's not a very good thing to do. It's also used in some dusters and freeze sprays...

    VU SS Ute Overheating

+1 to the fans, if not that likely to be a crudded up radiator. If it's original just replace it, they're cheap and the plastic tanks go bad after 10+ years. Is this the first summer you've had it?

A/C works great, for around 1 to 2 hours.

Does sound like it's icing up. Ask what gas they used, if they used Hychill it gets a bit colder. Or the control valve in the compressor might be set a bit low (they're non-adjustable). I'd probably just live with it, dropping the evaporator below freezing cools the car faster on hot days and...

    maffless tunes

The VZ LS1s have a bigger (85mm) maf than the older ones, feeding into a 75mm throttle body. No real gain from removing it, and extra cost because you need to faf around fitting an external IAT sensor. A good mafless tune works very well, but on a stock car it's much of a muchness. Mafless on...

    LS1 spigot bearing help

Pretty sure tapered side faces gearbox (as in pic 2). How does the pedal feel? The air can be tricky to get out. Try pumping the pedal fast for 30 seconds, wait a few minutes, then do it again. Sounds strange but it gets the air out. I had good luck with this after replacing the clutch, the...

Rear straight pipe vs rear hotdog

Just grab a catback with front and rear mufflers if you must have more noise. They don't drone too much and you can swap the stocker back on if you get defected. I like my cars quiet in normal driving now, much more relaxing and doesn't attract attention. But I do remember being young and...

Tailshaft center bearing noise on WH

lol I think I know the noise you mean though, mine makes it too, I only notice it driving on very smooth roads around 30-60 km/h with windows up. I just assumed it was the tires? Mine sounds about the right speed for tire noise. You could calculate wheel rpm and compare that to the frequancy...

    VZ SV6 Max KW?

    Bleeding LS1 after waterpump replacement

    VX Alternator or computer problem

Might be getting flat enough to cause other warning lights. Is it cranking slow? You can grab a multimeter from Jaycar for $10-15 and measure the voltage at the battery. LS6 Manifold onto late model ls1, whos done them?

    what's with ls1 and pulleys

LS6 Manifold onto late model ls1, whos done them?

^Yep... check the part no. on your manifold before you rip it off and replace it with the same thing :surprise: You do have to grind/snap off some of the fins. Throttle body is the same, and only the yankee stuff had EGR.

    Pulling Engine Out

Have a really good look and grope behind the intake manifold. The cam sensor, oil pressure sensor, or intake valley gasket can leak from back there and look like a rear main. All easy to fix with the engine in the car. Might be worth pulling the intake off to have a look.

    3 Blown AirCon A/C Compressors

LS1 Rear Main Seal and sump gasket repair costs?

You won't get the codes with the standard obdii scanner unfortunately, vt/vx isn't fully obdii compliant. Oil pressure needs a custom "mode 22" PID added - you can do this in Torque Pro. LS1 Rear Main Seal and sump gasket repair costs?

Would have to remove stock sensor and use an adaptor to go from the M16 x 1.5 thread to the 1/8" pipe thread that most gauges come with. I have an old speco one, repco etc have them. Probably cheaper and easier to replace the stock sensor, they're $50 on ebay these days. You can view the...
