    Thermo Fan shroud bolts size?

Thank-you. Picked up some today and they fit nicely. For anyone who looks at this in the future, you need M6 by 20mm or M6x16mm in order to not hit the radiator.

    Thermo Fan shroud bolts size?

Needed to remove my thermo fan to tighten my harmonic balancer bolt with my impact driver and all of the bolt heads snapped clean off. Ended up taking the radiator out in the end and removing the broken bolts. Does anyone know what size they are? I looked through my stash but didnt have...

    Spluttering, misfires - code 47 and 49

SOLVED! I had a closer look at the damaged areas and it just didnt look bad enough to be causing intermittant signal loss from what i could see. The insulation on the wires had been shaved down some how on the 2 wires above but only the smallest section of the internal wire could be seen and...

    Spluttering, misfires - code 47 and 49

Thats a good tip, ill have a look. It could make some sense too because when i wasnt driving the car for the 6 weeks we had some huge rain storms and the car was out in the weather at the time. Could have got some moisture in somewhere and sent a short in the plug or something. Hoping it is...

    Spluttering, misfires - code 47 and 49

I have some brand new leads and plugs ready to go, have changed the CAS and almost bought some new MSD coils last night from Mace and a new DFI from ebay. If my wiring fix isnt the problem Ill be going the injectors route next i think. My entire ignition system will be brand new except for the...

    Spluttering, misfires - code 47 and 49

So an update on this one. Bought a new coil to test but unfortunately wasnt the fix. I have had a couple of weird electronic issues with my headlights and turning signals lately so I started to think my wiring has maybe got some issues/modifications in its life. I took a very close look at...

Cool, thanks - ill have a look a bit later tonight. Is there a simple way to test the coils without a spark tester?

    Intake manifold gasket

I just did this for the first time myself a couple of weeks ago. Its surprisingly quite easy to do - theres a How To guide on here which walks you through everything

    Spluttering, misfires - code 47 and 49

VS V6 ute. I didnt drive it for about 6 weeks and then it started misfiring and spluttering on idle and any sort of load. It needed a full service and some things done so i took the opportunity to change the inlet manifold gaskets to Mace ones, replaced all fluids and filters, changed all the...

Purge control solenoid not connected to throttle body

Just to close the loop on this one in case it gets searched in the future - I followed your advice BowTie and picked up some 4mm vacuum hose to sort out the issue

Purge control solenoid not connected to throttle body

So I have been doing a few fixes on my VS ute ecotec due to a really rough idle/misfire when cold and under power. One thing i have been putting off for a while is to replace the inlet manifold gaskets (ive got some oil in my coolant). They probably arent the cause of my issues but while the ute...

    JCL's VS Ute

Havent updated this in a while but have been doing plenty of maintenance related updates on the old girl. Resolved my auto electrical gremlins - main power cable from alternator to battery terminal was loose at the battery Ended up swapping out the VT SS seats for Statesman front seats in mint...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

Just to close this one out - I took it to an auto place today and they were a bit unhappy to see another auto with the trans hardlines cut and rubber hose put in its place. They said while they dont like to see it, it should hold up fine and ill just have to keep my smell senses about me because...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

Yeah after mucking around with it for a few days I agree with you completely. Im sure it could be possible but its pretty difficult. My main issue is the leak coming out of the auto and for the life of me I cant adjust the line to get the leak to stop so Ive bitten the bullet and booked it in...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

True - it probably does make the most sense. i have been enjoying looking in to the issue and coming up with solutions but they could probably fix it in an hour vs a week of mucking around for me

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

If i had my time again I wouldnt have gone for the VT auto given how much I am spending to fix the install. I had to sort out my VS auto (which was dumping auto fluid from the oil pump seal) very quickly as I needed my car for a job I was doing so I called around the 3 local wreckers and not one...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

OK Ive worked out why it is leaking too. SO... turns out when the wreckers replaced my VS auto with the VT one they decided to use my existing trans cooler line including the connections that were screwed in to the auto. On the VS the transcooler lines are angled towards the auto and screwed in...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

Thanks for all the advice fellas Theres a pick a part 20 mins from my place so Ill make some time to go there and see if i can rip some hardlines off one of the cars and bring it home and have a play with the best approach. Thinking I may need some sort of hyrbrid approach with the main aim to...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

Ok I remembered you posted about VT autos into VS in another thread I had about the wreckers cutting off my y pipe hanger to fit the exhaust and not remedying it so it was hanging low. I saw you mention cooler pipe is larger on VT but you bought some whole lines and put some new bends in them...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

Unfortunately I did pay and trust me when I say this is but one of quite a few issues I have had with the install and I won't be going back there So do you think best course of action would be to replace both lines completely with hard lines all the way My understanding is that the cooler line...

Whats the best way to fix auto leak from outlet pipe thread (with pic)

Hi All, I had my auto changed with a VT one at the wreckers and have had to tidy up a few things they did (or didnt do to be more accurate) and have now diagnosed the outlet pipe thread attached to the auto to be leaking. I have taken off the hose you can see in the picture and tightened the...

    White smoke from auto/torque converter

Had another look and I think i found the leak (after spraying the whole underside in degreaser) on the outlet pipe to the auto. Doesnt appear to be tight enough but i didnt have the right ring spanner so ill pick one up tomorrow and tighten that. Another thing i found was that one of the...

    White smoke from auto/torque converter

Hey All, I recently had a VT auto 9HBD put into my VS ute from a local wreckers. It had the modification done to the full bell housing so it would fit around my Y pipe. It has started leaking auto fluid and I have just noticed over the last 2 days that white smoke and a burning smell is now...

Ecotec exhaust sagging in the middle

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up getting my hands on a cheap gasless welder and cutting off a hanger from an old muffler I had and attaching it to the y pipe just under the hanger on the VT auto. Wasn't a pretty weld but effective and the exhaust is back up where it should be now

Ecotec exhaust sagging in the middle

Ah - thanks for posting that. I did a search yesterday before posting but it didnt come up for me. I can say apart from my exhaust sagging now the actual transmission performance has been great. Feels solid between changes and I too have noticed a slightly lower volume engine noise. Thought it...

Ecotec exhaust sagging in the middle

So got under the car last night and can now see the problem - looks like they cut off the hanger point on my Y pipe in order to fit the VT auto without it fouling. So now I have no hanger point on the Y pipe to raise it up. There is a hanging point on the VT auto which is in a different spot to...

Ecotec exhaust sagging in the middle

Thanks for that - it is really helpful. Im concerned when they changed the trans (The new one is from the VT era) that it means my Y pipe wont align properly with the hanging points on the new trans/cross member and they havent done anything to remedy it. Ill have to get under the car one...

Ecotec exhaust sagging in the middle

I recently had my auto changed from a 6HDD to a 9HFD with the full bell housing and the exhaust would have been taken off to fit it. The other day i hit a bump in the road and i noticed yesterday that the middle of the exhaust where the cat-back attaches is sagging quite low. The catback...

VS auto leaking fluid on to exhaust

Just updating this in case anyone searches for a similar issue in the future. Called around and the cost of pulling out the auto, taking it apart and replacing the oil pump seal was going to be ridiculous and would be a full rebuild essentially so I called a local wreckers I go to and they are...

VS auto leaking fluid on to exhaust

OK I can confirm it is indeed leaking from the oil pump as it has pooled there again overnight and dripped quite a bit into the bucket i put underneath. Ill give my mechanic a call on Monday to see whether it is worthwhile attempting to fix it or just go to the wreckers and get a swap over

VS auto leaking fluid on to exhaust

Looks like a rubber gasket to me. Ive got a of pic of the issue and hoping to try and work out if its just a pan gasket that needs replacing or whether it looks more likely to be the pump seal. There looks to be some auto fluid coming from the converter area but i don't know yet if that is...

VS auto leaking fluid on to exhaust

Hey all, Hoping you may know the answer to this one. Got home from work and heard a steam type noise from under the bonnet and thought the worst. Got under the car and noticed it was auto fluid dripping and it was a decent amount. When I got the car up on stands I noticed there was...
