    See ya guys and gals!

The time has come, sold the VE today! I’ll miss the beast but then it’s the same with every car I’ve had, they have never been anything other than an enthusiast car…Peugeot 205 GTI, 1994 version 1 WRX STI, (obligatory) NB MX-5 and now the SSV. I’ll miss the sound, the power…I feel like I could...

VE v8 Alternator Removal & Replacement

Just a note to say thanks for the write ups here! Just swapped out an alternator from Holmart and the only things I had to remove were the VCM OTR and temporarily I clip the power steering reservoir from its bracket, a little wigging and that sucker comes straight out! Would be even easier if my...

Paint code for VE SSV 19" Rim

The wheels don't seem to have a paint code - I have looked before. I think its just silver with no metallic and clear.

    Front end clunk

Front sway bar D shaped bushes. You can fit them on your drive through the engine bay and they are cheap. Its the first thing I would replace chasing a front end clunk because its easy. You cant tell they are knackered from looking at them necessarily. Replace them as I could not see it in your...

    VE Values

Hi all I was thinking of chopping my car or the missus' car (2013 PoloGTI) in for something a bit newer and SUV - there are a number of reasons for this please don't flame me! Which got me looking at values. It appears since I last looked a few years ago prices have gone up for equivalent...

    Alternator warning

So I had the alternator warning come up - it’s gone again now however I’m convinced that it will come back. No error codes with it. Checked charge rates in OBD2 and engineering mode. They look good. 14.5 whilst charging. 12.6-12.5 on battery when off. New ish battery. I now carry a trickle...

    Air conditioning struggles

Update - almost no gas. Pretty sure it’s got a leak, re-gassed for now as brother in law did it for free. At least it’s cold again - will see how long it lasts!

    Air conditioning struggles

I’m in Brisbane now so it’s really obvious the system is cactus. Luckily brother in law has his aircon ticket and all the kit so later today we are doing some investigation!

    Air conditioning struggles

Thanks for the advice guys - Its getting driven from Sydney to Brisbane just me in a week so wont have time to resolve it. It is blowing cold, just not ice cold... I'll give it a good blast and sort it if still an issue in the new year.

    Air conditioning struggles

This yielded zero result. So if they put fluorescent in the standard gas its not leaking obviously. I will have to run it a bit and see what happens.

    Air conditioning struggles

Ok - thanks for the info. I happen to have a little UV/black light torch. I think from what I see here there is dye in the gas which would show up where any leak is, so I think tonight I will break that out and see if I can see any leaks as a first.

    Air conditioning struggles

Hi all the recent 40 degree weekend saw my air con properly struggling. In comparison to my 2013 Polo GTI it is rendered as effective as a basic fan, recirculating or not, as opposed to cold. A little while ago the aircon light came on and I got it regassed which fixed the light. The belt is...

WM CAPRICE JUNK,, LS2 MOST OVER RATED ENGINE , HOLDEN DISHES UP THIS....... SO LONG SUCKERS

On a serious note - a lot of the same issues popping up as the weather turns colder - classic time to find out your battery is knackered with a Christmas tree of lights on your dash ....

    Codes

How’s the battery? I have found that a weak battery will start setting off codes all over the place of a sensor requires a high/low voltage to read. Engineering mode with ignition on only will give you a read in the morning to see what voltage it’s sitting at. Is it sluggish to start? How...

    Night mode electrical gremlin

Update: Tech 2 scan shows that there is a fault somewhere on the brighten dash button to BCM circuit. When reset the dim button works fine. Basically the switch applies a ground to that wire to the BCM. It’s momentary so you let go it stops the ground. The BCM records that as a %. The moment...

    Very slight misfires

Could be a dirty or failing MAF. A tech 2 scan is a good idea anyway. I was trying to diagnose a slight miss at idle, a check engine light and another small electrical gremlin so I had this yesterday. It picked up rear wheel speed sensor issues in the past (now not present), MAF low and out of...

    Night mode electrical gremlin

Yeah I know, it worked once, now it doesn’t. It’s not the switch and the wires to the loom look ok. The block into the switch also looks ok. I can’t figure it out.
  21. T

    Night mode electrical gremlin

So I bought a replacement switch to see if the reason I can’t dim my dash or enter night mode was a broken switch but apparently not. The lights work, fogs turn on correctly but the dimming buttons seem to have no effect. The short wiring from switch to main wiring loom seem ok, a spare switch...

Clunking coming from the front (with vid)

The sway bar bushes can look perfect and still be no good. mine looked fine, they just wear and allow the sway bar to slide side to side. Replacing them cured my front end knock, I also did the end links but not until a little later. The bushes alone stopped the noise. It is easy enough to do, I...

VE sedan control arm and castor arm replacement

I did not see if you had tried replacing the sway bar bushes, if you haven’t it’s cheap and possible to do on a flat surface without a jack. They might look fine but if you have tried everything else you should try this. It cured my front end knock and many others.

    VE omega sedan Spoiler installation?

I bought a Senator style lip spoiler for a couple of hundred bucks from ebay then I had it sprayed (Phantom black) for about $350 if I remember correctly. it came with mounting bolts that did not line up with the standard spoiler holes so I just used Sikaflex on it. It's not going anywhere. So...

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

To provide closure on this thread....just changed the sway bar D-bushes with Whiteline jobs... AT LAST NO CLUNK! Seriously took me too loooooong to get on with the most common advice lol! In my defence I thought they looked ok and so did two mechanics, which goes to show they can be sh@gged and...

    Knocking sound from front left

Get anywhere with this? I changed struts and strut tops, had two mechanics look and not find the mystery clunk. I have purchased new whiteline sway bar bushes and drop links as when I got under the car most recently I could slide the sway bar about two inches side to side which says to me the...

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

So I i'm probably in need of new front discs, which I would normally do myself but these days time is a premium and I no longer have the room. Since the wheel will be coming off, the strut tops have been identified as not the issue and i am still getting clonky clonk and the sway bar links and...

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

So got a call. Nothing obvious wrong, checked bushes, droplinks etc and all seem ok. He said he took the top plates off and compressed them a little as they stretch with age but otherwise all fine....we’ll except for my squeaky as hell brakes! So i’ll go for a quick spin this evening and see...

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

Update: To avoid messing around i am booked in to a local (and well reviewed) mechanic to give the car a suspension inspection. I need to engage a new mechanic as I moved area anyway sot his will prove out a good initial test! Goes in Wednesday so will update then.

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

I’m running 34 psi in the standard SSV alloys, I think that’s the recommended pressure? Strut tops were replaced, I’m going to have to have a real poke around and see if I can see anything.

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

No doubt there are other options but I wanted to achieve an OEM drive. I don't think the ride would have been particularly bad out of the factory. I'll give this another go, I did do it when I last checked the brake pads with the wheel off and could not get anything to reasonably wiggle...

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

Thanks Monstar. That's certainly the Rolls Royce answer to my question but I am hesitant (read as "not gonna happen") to replace already brand new OEM shocks. I just want as close to new/OEM ride as possible. I think a firm ride is "normal", I just think that the crashes, bangs and rattles that...

Who has done a suspension refresh? *CURED FRONT KNOCK/CLUNK*

So I had the original shocks replaced on my 135k kms 2007 SSV. No more bounce in the suspension. Obviously she is not going to feel like a new car but I still find the suspension crashier than I had hoped the shocks would resolve. I retained the original springs, used OEM Munroe shocks. (PS I...

    Replace suspension

It's probably easier to think about it in terms of what the shocks actually are instead of FE etc. For my SSV I replaced with Munroe GT gas shocks which are OEM. These are stiff. I think if you replaced with Omega suspension for example you would get a softer ride...I am not sure what the OEM...

    Extremely bad squealing brakes

I have squeaky brakes using some forum favourites from a while ago, QFM something or other. What I found was that the original pads had plastic shims on the pad backs that stopped the sound. Additionally I think it took up a little bit of slack. The new pads when I apply the brake there is a...

    Replace suspension

Been there... I just replaced the struts with original ones, not the springs. The ride is just stiff. You’d need to potentially grab the suspension off something lower in the spec range. The wheels I think are the main issue as well. Basically stock suspension is pretty stiff and with the age...
