Commodore VT/ VX Unlocks itself? Could be a dirty key mechanism switch

I have a bad habit of planning to write things up but never actually making the time, so I'm not going to bother making this too polished, but I wanted to share a solution to a problem thats been plaguing me for more than a year now. It's not something that seems to happen too often, but going...

    HISSING NOISE LEFT OF DASH

Almost certainly a vacuum hose thats fallen off or split. I would check the area behind the climate control, thats where it was for me. Sound travels so its not always in the place it sounds like

    Petrol Vapour Canister

Yeah, not cheap. Everything I've read says that they're just an environmental thing, so your experiences this will be an interesting test. Are those the same connectors used on the fuel filter?

    Petrol Vapour Canister

Yeah its a bit like that here sometimes. Guess vapour canisters is one of those things no one cares much about. Coincidentally I was looking at mine the other day too and wondering if I should replace it. How much did yours cost you?

[VT] Auto late shifting and high revs

I know its a little late, but thank you!! Same issue as above, changed over the throttle position sensor and Bam! Problem gone. So easy to do too, just two screws holding it in.

    Faulty DFI module?

With the car running, pass a hair dryer over the dfi. If it starts to idle rough, change the hairdryer to fan only to cool it down. Thats how I found out my DFI was faulty. I replaced it with a second hand unit from ebay for like $30

No engine fan control, interior blower or AC

Little while ago I turned on the AC, and it must have overloaded or something because it tripped a fuse. The back of the AC plug was melted, so I removed that. Later I noticed the engine cooling fan wasn't turning on. I still had to use the car so I ran a wire directly from the relay to the...

Semisythetic or fully sythetic oil for Transmission oil?

My transmission is giving me grief, so I went to Repco last week to get some oil for an oil change. I was looking at the Penrite fully synthetic, but the salesman swayed me to use the semi. He said although the fully synthetic was technically better, it didn't last as long. Both were the same...

Spray painting parts for rust protection

Talked to a guy at autobarn. He recommended that first I brush down parts with a wire brush - this removes any flakey or loose pieces. Spray it heavily with brake cleaner to clean off any dust Next, hit it with a combination rust converter/primer like this...

Spray painting parts for rust protection

This should be funny. I have a bunch of small tins of rustguard, in white, blue and green. None of them big enough for all the parts, so I guess we are mixing and matching

Spray painting parts for rust protection

I'm weighing it up. This isn't a space shuttle, so I shouldn't be doing everything perfectly, but in the past I've skipped things that aren't essential and ended up paying for it later. That's behaviour I'm trying to get away from, without going too far the other way. 5 years seems pretty good...

    Trans filter quality

I'd use the cheapest I could find (although I'm not quite game enough to try ebay cheap lol) Use your eyes, if the things falling apart don't use it, but other than that short of testing it in a rig you never know. Manufacturers change the formula for things constantly, so even if some had...

Recalibrating fuel sender on VX wagon?

Hmm I have the same problem with mine, hadn't thought of using software to recallibrate. If the display is anything like the VS, you get corrosion on the terminals which interferes with the signal. I was planning to take it out, give them a good clean. If that didn't work then it was going to be...

Spring coil sag and when to replace

Th Thanks C..bunch of numbers I think I will replace them. The struts are cactus, and have been for while so they've been bearing all the stresses. I called up Booran Holden and they have brand new ones for $56 each so I'll go with that. Idiots on ebay are flogging used ones for that price LOL

Spray painting parts for rust protection

Hiyall What paint is good, easy and cheap to use on parts? I've been doing some suspension work, and things like the lower control arm are looking a little rusted. I'd like to give to give them a touch up to stop them rusting any further, but the most I know about spray paint is to stay away...

Spring coil sag and when to replace

I have a 2001 sedan that I'm replacing the shock absorber struts on. I was going to use the original springs, but measuring them they are 390mm long and the book says standard springs should be 444mm unloaded. Time for replacement? FYI this ride is for comfort not street racing

    Help vx commodore

Has it happened before? Does it start again if you let it cool for a while? I had a VS that would clock out after 20 minutes idling, almost on the dot. Replaced CAS, cas plug, DFI plug.. Turned out to be the DFI You can test that with a hairdryer and some sort of thermometer to make sure it...

    Snapped thermostat housing bolt

This happened to me, not once but twice! Luckily for me it was easy enough to get them both out and I had spares. It must be a common thing though; water corrodes the top half of the bolt, and causes it to shear off when its over tightened. If it happens, I would block up the intake, and spray...

[VT-VX] VT series 1 sedan fuel pump problem solved

Helped me. Thanks I measured the resistances on the old pump and the new one(terminals match diagonally) The fuel sender goes from 50ohms (empty) to 300 ohms (full) The new pump had a resistance of just under 3 ohms, while the old one was borked at 30ohms There is a supercharge version of this...

How To Flush A V6 Cooling System

Thanks for the guide. I just used this to flush my VS, which it sorely needed after 5 years of abuse.
