    Question about shocks and springs.

Hey fellas, son wants to replace his SSSL springs on the rear of his VT V6 sedan. He's just bought new LOW shocks for his car (Ebay- yellow ones LOL) He isnt sure about swapping his springs for something a bit higher (like FE2 springs). Will the shocks still be ok with a slightly higher...

Takes a lot of cranking to start VT v6. 1998

I have found that the pipe going from the back/side (pass. side) of the plenum, to an EGR valve? then to the extractors appears blocked. It appears to be deliberately closed ,somehow. Where the steel pipe meets the plenum, the hole has been welded closed. I'm guessing theirs a reason for this...

Takes a lot of cranking to start VT v6. 1998

OK- will do those things today. Got to tighten up ALL his tailshaft bolts today. Who'd have thought that Super Glue isnt a direct replacement for Loc-tite, and a torque wrench, eh!! Mark Thanks fellas!!

Takes a lot of cranking to start VT v6. 1998

Yep, lout. Tried that. Fuel pump runs ok, by the sound of it. It does start quicker if he turns the engine off, and restarts soon after. I dont have a fuel presure gauge, so cant check that. I may try running a jump start battery to it. Although the battery sounds good, and is new. Maybe extra...

How do I check condition of shocks when OFF the car?

I took out the STANDARD shocks from the back (his car is on SSL's). Shocks are rooted. Put in new Munroes, which are a good 6" shorter than the old ones! No wonder it was giving me whiplash every time he hit a pothole! Thanks fellas Mark

Takes a lot of cranking to start VT v6. 1998

If its run for a few minutes, switched off and restarted- it starts quick. Fuel filter is new. Fuel ATM is 98 Ron.

How do I check condition of shocks when OFF the car?

Hey fellas with the shocks off the car, how would you give them a bit of a check? I'm guessing they would be easy to push and pull? Are shocks -like- easier to "pull apart" than "push together? Hard ? Really hard? Quite hard? Not very hard? (To pull apart/push together) Thanks! :)...

Takes a lot of cranking to start VT v6. 1998

Thanks fellas!! I"ll wait till he gets out of bed - and check to see if he's done the fuel filter since he's had it. It turns over quite well- the battery sounds good. I'll check the restart after 30 seconds too. Forgot to check that. I'll get back to ya'all! Thanks Mark

Takes a lot of cranking to start VT v6. 1998

Hey fellas, My son has a VT v6. Manual-extractors-2.5" exhaust. new coil packs-plugs-leads.270k's Battery is good. Goes BLOODY quick!! Runs well,no misses. No fault codes showing. BUT- It takes 3-4 seconds of cranking before it starts. Hot or cold. He "primes" the pump before starting...

query about the cooling system/trans cooler VZ

Hey fellas, I sold my BA ute a while ago-to which I fitted a trans cooler (from a vs commy). I did this because A-lower temps cant be bad , and also because of the Fords propensity to wash the transmissions with coolant when the rad. tanks fail. After that boring "why you ask" section comes...

This forum great. Aint nuthin' you cant find out. Combined "on hand" knowledge here is so much more "user friendly" than spending hours trolling for the correct info. Four hours research- or 5 minutes here. The human brain is (often) a wonderful thing Ha HA!!

Need to "retorque" cylinder head bolts? Hope not!

Thanks fellas, I dont want to go back in there. To much crap to remove. I'm in Cairns- and my (only good one in Riverland) mechanic is in -the Riverland. Gotta try and look after a good one! The heads might be cactus anyway. Mark :)

    VE no start?

Hey fellas, my son is working on a VE that wont start. 3.6. Auto. Turns over fine. Guessing fuel pump? Its not my car,and a friend owns it. No other work has been done to it recently. It has 270KM on it. Anything leap to mind before the mechanic? Thanks fellas Mark

    VZ struts/springs question

NO! They are brillaint. They gave me 6 hours to walk around a country town to "enjoy" the sites. THEN- they charged me full price. THEN -the noise I originally went in there for, was still there!! Truly fully "qualafieded" mechanics~!!! "They know the business"................. Mark :) PS-...

How to go about cleaning INSIDE the engine.

Good stuff. I was just wondering what people were using in the 3.6. I reckon just go with decent oil, (mineral) and change it every 5k. I dont know what my engine is like inside. Just reading of sludging issues on poorly maintained cars. Thanks fellas. Loved that flush with hose thread!!

How to go about cleaning INSIDE the engine.

Hey fellas, I have heard of sludging problems in the ol'VZ 175 etc. Whats a decent way of cleaning it out GRADUALLY? I know youi can end up with leaks if you are too agressive. If you recommend diesel oil, which one are we using? Or should I just change the oil every 5000KM? Any...

    VZ struts/springs question

Ha Ha NO!! Just had trouble with a "suspension shop" that didnt know BA springs were tapered, and they spent 3 hours trying to get the springs off the struts. That exersize cost a lot! All cool! Thanks mate.

    VZ struts/springs question

Thanks NAAF! That was what I wanted to hear! Not "We are a suspension shop- but we couldnt get the springs done because we didnt know that BA springs are different". You know the story. :) Mark:)

    VZ struts/springs question

Hey fellas, a quick question on the springs at the front. Are the tapered springs (ala BA sedans)? Easy or hard to get off the strut? Thanks, Mark

    Coolant coolant coolant -SIGH..

I have a bad feeling that "these engines" are going to remind me of an EA Falcon. Plasticene cylinder heads LOL. I wonder ? If you maintain a 3.6 like the factory recommends, do the cylinder head gaskets let go anyway? I have read SO MANY posts on HG's and coolant leaks. My car has had (up till...

    Coolant coolant coolant -SIGH..

Went 40 ks and checked out the mechanic. He used old spec coolant, and 15/40 oil. Doesnt matter, just confirms my opinion of a lot of mechanics. Must be some good ones somewhere. :) Mark

What to look for when buying a VZ Berlina?

My suggestion? CHECK the cooling system FIRST. Dont look at ANYTHING before!! Cooling system. That is all. :)

    3.6 head gasket question

My thoughts as well. Do I want to spend 2000 bucks plus, on a car that cost me $5800. Possibly not. I think that if I had known what I know now, I wouldnt have jumped so quickly. A head gasket at 197ks isnt normal for a Holden. Or wasnt. Are these really SAAB engines? I thought they built them...

    3.6 head gasket question

Yeah BCW, Same symptoms. I didnt/havent done a comp. test, as I THINK that the leak would be so small that compression MAY not be affected. Could be wrong though. Your thoughts? How much was the new engine (and fitting) if you dont mind me asking? Thanks fellas,

    Coolant coolant coolant -SIGH..

thanks fellas, Yeah, I dont know what the mekanik put in it. All I know is that its green.:) Why are people telling me not to use green. I havent checked which coolants are Holden spec'd for the Alloytec. First time I have had an Alloytec, hence confusion. Mark
