Replacing Cats. Do the EBAY ones work?

Hi, I need to replace both cats on my 2005 wagon. They sound like someone has filled them with a handfull of rocks! I was thinking of getting rid of the car in the next 6 months so I dont really want to spend the $650 to get second hand ones installed. I was looking at the Hi Flow cats on eBay...

Check Engine Light after Hi-Flow cats - fix?

Ok, So I'm about to replace both of my rattly cats on my VZ V6 wagon. I'm not planning on keeping the car longer than 12 months, so I didn't want to spend the thousand dollars to replace the cats with new standard ones and was considering just getting cheap hi flow cats installed for less than...

Noisy 2005 SV6 - sounds like a diesel, rattle in front of engine

Okay, So I took the car to the mechanic today and he confirmed the problem apears to be timing chain related. He said they wouldn't even quote on it and dont want the job. He said if I was going to get it fixed, the best bet was go to holden but expect it to cost thousands. His advice was just...

Noisy 2005 SV6 - sounds like a diesel, rattle in front of engine

My car has this rattle too, but only for about three seconds on startup. Sounds terrible, but then it stops untill I leave the car sitting for long enough that the oil runs down again. The oil I'm using is the correct grade and just fresh. Is thIs more likely to be a bad seal around the timing...

I got quoted $350 to get the castor rod bushes done today. Knocked back the quote. Thinking I will do it myself.

    VZ Jack

Must agree the standard jack is a flimsy piece of crap. Can't believe how much mine was flexing when I have had to use it. Was just waitng for it to colapse. Made sure once the car was off the ground I always had a wheel laying under the car so the car wouldn't end up sitting on the rotor on my...

    Ignition coils...

I haven't checked with the VZ's but you should be able to measure the resistance of each coil. This should tell you witch one is bung, although if it is an intermitant fault, it may measure okay anyways. I don't envy you. Would be a pain in the butt lifting the manifold off to replace each coil...

DOES vt series 2 berlina have a lock twice system?

yep, my vt Series 2 has the double lock system.

Having a problem with my seats after fitting vy seats to my vt.

I guessing it relates to the fact that the berlinas have side airbags while the execs don't. There must be a change in the wiring bcos of that. I put VZ seats in my VT, both both cars were berlins so there was no real issues.

MY vt will not start HELP?

My car started first kick this morning. Wasn't very cold last night though. Will have to wait for another cold morning to check the pump i guess.

VT will turn over but wont fire?!

I've got the same sort of problem. How did you go with this one?

MY vt will not start HELP?

lol, yeah nothing like being out on the street at 6:30 in the morning trying to start the car. The neighbours must love it. See what happens tomorrow morning.....

MY vt will not start HELP?

Doh! My car did the old no start thing again this morning. I did the same as yesterday, removing the fuses and put em back in. Locked and unlocked the car a few times. Still no start. Probly tried to start it about 15 times over half an hour. Lots of cranking but no fire. Finally tried it again...

MY vt will not start HELP?

My car did this this morning. Could not for the life of me find the problem. The starter just kept cranking the engine but it wouldn't fire up. I checked the fuses under the bonnet - ignition fuse was in there, but they all checked out fine. It seemed just like the immobiliser was still active...

Oil filter- cartridge. Is there one available with a non return valve?

I've been looking around but haven't been able to find the cartridge filters fitted with anti flow back valve. I guess they just don't exist. Will just use the standard cartridge i guess.

I got KMart auto to do mine a while ago. I'm sure the mounts were only about 80 bucks, and I don't think the service fee was too bad. I did post it here somewhere. ..... here is the post here...

Power window keeps popping out of regulator

Yeah, Ive had to use a G clamp before to get the new ones on. Last time I used a really nice pair of multi grips with plenty of leverage to pop them on.

Vt wagon rear middle seat belt???????????????????????

Hi, I remember fixing a mates seat belt in his wagon cos it jammed when he folded down the seat. There is a post about how to fix this on the forum somewhere, if it is the same type of jam. I think it was something like pulling out the bottom of the seat (where your butt goes) and undoing the...

Power window keeps popping out of regulator

Yeah, I'd replace the white sliders. Had to do it a couple of times in my VT now. They usually crack in half on mine though. They are nice and tight when they are new so there is no chance of em popping off again.

    VT Brake light issue

Hey Valiant, I'm not sure where it is located on the Commodores, but there is a switch that is activated by the brake pedal whitch turns on the brake lights. It was a comon fault for some models of Falcons for the switch to fail so the brake lights no longer turned on. On the falcons the switch...

    LED Blinkers

Hmmmm, this is a bit confusing. I was originally being a lilttle sarcastic with the comment about the LED globes notted being fitted with limiting resistors. I know they are fitted with them. Without these the LED globes would last a fraction of a second before they blow. OK, so you fit your LED...

    battery, alternator or starter motor?

Checking all the cables would e my first place to start as well. The cables to the starter motor is where i wpuld pay particular attention. If not the cables, then my next bet would be the solenoid on the starter motor.

    Whistle type sound when accelerating

Yep, This hose caused the hissing noise on my VT. Would really only hiss under acceleration. The connectors were a bit hard and the hose could just fall off with the slightest bump. Used a bit of gasket sealer to glue it up. Problem solved.

    VT Brake/Reverse Lights

Yeah, if you buy some of the Altezza style tail lights of ebay they have the reverse lights in them, so you can paint the Vt garnish a solid colour. There are a few posts on here somewhere if you do a search for garnish or something similar. You will also have to change the wiring slightly to...

extending the length of neon wire..

Yeah, you could just use some crappy speaker wire. You would be better off using wire that is tinned though. Most speaker wires aren't tinned (you will see the conductor is just copper coloured.) Tinned wire offers a little more corrosion resistance. Will probly last a little longer. Also, just...

How do I get my indicators to flash at normal speed after swapping to led lighting?

Don't know about yours, but mine clicks even louder than the original. As far as I am aware they are not legal if they don't make a loud enough click.

    What seats will fit

I've got VZ seats in my VT. Dropped straight in except for a slight change to the wiring harness for the seat height control motor. Best $300 I spent on the car! Took me a few weeks of looking on ebay to get the whole interior so all the colours matched.

    Trans cooler fan

    No problem.
  36. B

How do I get my indicators to flash at normal speed after swapping to led lighting?

All you need to do is replace your old flasher unit for a new electronic one. they cost a few dollars more (around $25 I think from memory) and you will have no problem. The old units rely on the current drawn by the globes to set the flash rate. Lose one blinker globe and you reduce the load...

    main wires?

Well said SabbathSS. Just make sure your earth and 12V wires are nice heavy duty cable to ensure you get the best performance from your amp and you wont risk burning them out.

VS passenger electric window not workin.

I'd start by disconnecting the power window motor and applying 12 volts across it to see if it still worked. - watch your fingers, you don't want to get them chopped off by the mechanism when it moves. If the motor works, then you know it is either the switch or the wiring between the switch and...

Can anyone give me some insight into this dilemma? Cars broke and so am I.

lol, kill switches can be handy if you know where they are! Glad you got it sussed out. Pity it cost you all those dollars for nothing though.

    Trans cooler fan

You can run the trans cooler fan off the same relay as long as you check the current ratings of the relay. The relay shouild have some markings on it saying what current the contacts can handle. Next ,check the current ratings of both fans and add them together.to see if they exceed the current...
