IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Ok I've tried those last 2 things posted, made no difference. I'm thinking there's something else going on not related to the IACV, sometimes, the engine will rev extremely high up around 3000+ on startup and not come down again, so I cycle the engine off and on again waiting a bit in between...

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Yeah, if all injectors are being pre-pressurised at the maximum pressure levels, same condition as full throttle as the fuel regulator adjusts to provide maximum pressure in a non-vacuum condition, which exists during full throttle and also during startup, so the AFR is very rich, and why you...

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Perhaps, but if it's just a stepper motor there shouldn't really be any synching between the two, just direct control which I'd think was more likely, but maybe the motor is slower at reaching its designated position. Don't really have much of a choice as Holden don't supply them anymore and...

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Holden doesn't supply them anymore apparently so had to get one from eBay. As far as operating while driving it works just as good IMO, just the startup revs was a little odd, but might be normal.

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Yeah have the paper gasket too. I've assumed the issue with startup revs is actually normal so thanks for all advice and will leave it be.

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Yeah I did 20 sec at 2500RPM which didn't seem to alter the startup RPM, but the settled idle revs were good from the get go without that procedure anyway.

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

From what I've gathered 28mm is the right distance it's meant to be out for startup so seems to be ok. My whole topic was regarding peak revs on startup, as I mentioned idle was fine. Just goes up to 1500 for the first second before coming down to normal quickly.

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Are those instructions for a VT cause this Pintle is out 29mm according to those measuring lines and there's still heaps of room for it to go out further before it hits anything inside the IAC housing on the throttle body. I've also seen the IAC motors from VTs have a smaller Pintle diameter...

What is each one designed for, Different models? Do you know which each is meant for?
  10. K

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Ok thanks, it might just be till the engine creates a vacuum condition as to why the first second is so high on revs. Still would prefer it lower if it were possible.

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

What does everyone's car rev up to on initial startup, like in the first second? Mine seems to peak at around 1500 then drop down to 900 with a cold engine. Just thinking it should normally only reach 1000RPM. Can see this live on the computer display by holding MODE+UP while Turing on ignition...

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Tip is same size, big enough to seat or end stop without going through the air intake lol, ouchies.
  13. K

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

If this helps, the Pintle is 19mm out during ignition on, from the nearest part of the housing to the tip.
  14. K

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Yeah it does it on hot starts too, didn't do this before, it always used to start up around normal idle or a little higher and have very little adjusting to proper idle. Had no issues preventing engine startup by closing the base idle with the old IAC installed, so this would indicate no vac...
  15. K

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

No the O-ring is fine and there's no vac leaks, it idles fine at the right RPM, just need the start up position of the IAC to be changed to a more closed state so the engine doesn't rev so high in the beginning.
  16. K

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

The cable is already in a position where the throttle is fully closed and the revs are too high. All the air is coming through the IAC so I need a way to adjust its position during ignition on prior to starting.

IAC issue VX II V6 3.8

Hi guys, got an issue with a new IAC I've installed, it will idle normal but the initial engine startup position it's using is pushing the revs to 1300-1400RPM with the base idle completely shut, then drops back down to normal over about 2-3 seconds. Don't think this was normal, would prefer it...

VX II Auto Cold engine idle erratic/surging

Yeah till I clear them, as I said there were none prior to disconnecting the sensors. Looks like I may need to try a new PCM, can I do this without needing to link it with the BCM? Just not sure If it's the chip on the PCM or the PCM itself that holds the link for security system etc, so I...

VX II Auto Cold engine idle erratic/surging

Ok thanks for the info guys, I have checked error codes and they are all clear, I then tried cold idling with each sensor disconnected separately (IAT, TPS, Coolant) none of which changed the fluctuations in idle revs or the high RPM. I did test something new though and found that if I turn...

VX II Auto Cold engine idle erratic/surging

Hi, thanks for the tips, I have tried those things, the problem is the revs keep fluctuating and/or rev too high even during the learning phase for idle control. Even after I do the reset correctly, the problem still exists afterwards, the only thing that seems to eventually resolve it is a warm...

VX II Auto Cold engine idle erratic/surging

Hi, I've been trying to sort this issue for a while but am not sure what to try next. The engine will rev higher than normal when cold, usually in the range of 1200-1700, typically at 1500 approx, this goes away once the engine comes to temperature or has been turned on and off a few times...

    vx rough idle

Take engine cover off, it's on the front side of the throttle body, you'll see a plastic device with an electrical plug in it, about 4-5cm in size, just google tps for your model and you'll see pics and instructions hoe to remove by searching here on the forums, it's simple, takes a couple...

    vx rough idle

If the revs get stuck higher up then normal when engine is cold after pushing the accelerator (or not), even in park, then it is very likely the throttle position sensor, had the exact same problem, and that new TPS solved it.

What a pain hey, glad you got it sorted though, long time without a bite, well enjoy the race, will be watching it too.

FIXED - VX Calais deadlocked but can drive

Start by swapping out any relays related to the central locking with identical ones from other systems if you can find any the same, door locking is relay controlled. You can look for relays under driver dash and engine bay fuse box.

vt v6 commodore clunking when accelerating.

Ok interesting, the alternate gear test was really to determine if it "was" the transmission only, but from what you've said it could still be any of the above, because there's other areas in the transmission not gear dependent, but start with checking the less complex stuff like you plan to on...

Aaahhh.... 19" wheels too big for Vx commodore wagon?

Have a tyre shop fit 245/35R19s to the front rims, remove the spacers too and test it out, you will likely find that there's no need for the spacers anymore so get rid of them, the tyre should clear the inside and also sit inside the arch with the spacers gone. Then if all good get the rear...

Aaahhh.... 19" wheels too big for Vx commodore wagon?

245/35R19 654mm tall 245/45R19 703mm tall Nearly 50mm taller tyre, no surprise it's rubbing, I'm surprised it fits at all. Firstly not legal. Secondly if your speedo is accurate it will read 100km/h but true speed will be 108km/h, or 60km/h speedo is 65km/h true. On top of that it...

Aaahhh.... 19" wheels too big for Vx commodore wagon?

The BMW rims tend to have a lesser positive offset around 20mm+ which causes the wheel to sit further out near the guard/quarter panel or further away from the strut, but you'll need to check that offset as it may be a higher positive offset after all, and more importantly make sure you know...

VX Clubsport - Stupid question regarding fuses

Sounds like a short, the clicking would be a relay switching on and off id say, I'm no electrical expert but if it didn't cause any damage, You could probably find out which relay it is by putting the fuse in while feeling the top of each relay, it'll be the one that has the stronger click...

Aaahhh.... 19" wheels too big for Vx commodore wagon?

245/45 is likely too tall a tyre for the front, it's also too tall for correct speedo readings. On a 19" rim you should have 245/35. You'll probably find it's also an illegal upsize, here in Qld you can only go 15mm taller than what's on the placard, and 21% wider.

vt v6 commodore clunking when accelerating.

Also I wouldn't go replacing anything till you know exactly what needs it. Diagnosing like this isn't effective, you'll need to do the checks or have someone do the more complex stuff like checking trans.

vt v6 commodore clunking when accelerating.

Tail shaft will always have some play, just a matter of how much that matters. Like I said if you're only getting the issue in a specific gear change, then most likely a transmission issue. Have you tested it out? It'll help to cut down the problem location.
  35. K

vt v6 commodore clunking when accelerating.

Try whether it does the noise from 3 to 2 or 2 to 1, if the noise is just in 4 to 3, then logic would say it's a transmission problem, check fluid level in it with a hot engine and idling, if level is ok then you might have a worn clutch pack or something similar, something only a transmission...

    brake problem. confused!

Yeah Qld too, Np with the help, I might also suggest seeing if that rod has been pushed in too far or it's out too far and has just been displaced in a way that it can't build vacuum inside the booster, so it may be ok, and just needs to be adjusted so the internal valve closes again to...
  37. K

    brake problem. confused!

There's a rod from the booster that goes through the firewall that connects to the brake pedal mechanism, probably attached by a bolt, anyway where this rod goes into the booster, there's a seal on that side of the booster, this may be the problem area, can't really be anything else that would...
  38. K

    brake problem. confused!

If you hear a grinding noise like pads on rotors when turning them then clearly the pistons are engaged, and the booster works the brakes so when it's got vacuum in it, it releases the brakes again, right now the vacuum is not able to build up from the leak
  39. K

    brake problem. confused!

If it's drawing air in from the firewall side then you might need to look or feel for the leak on that side, under the dash and near the booster location, but ultimately the booster may need to come off and you should find the leak. I don't know how it's all connected up between the pedal and...

    brake problem. confused!

Not an expert on this but start by checking which wheels spin freely, it might only be one wheel locking up, if that's the case then id be sorting that first, but check the vacuum hose from booster to plenum for tight connections and no tears in the hose, try to also track down the hiss if any...
