Left foot on the brake reminds me of all the old grannies you see driving around with their left foot resting on the brake pedal and the brake lights constantly on.....even when their accelerating up hills.

Are you still using the mechanic that services and reads the oil level with a broken dipstick ? I'd start by finding a new mechanic.
