If we assume that Holden is abandoning the V8 market as it appears they are and if we assume their 'Commodore' is now focused only on the mid-large value and luxury sedan market - what are the alternative/competing cars? Whats the alternative for the person who wants a good value bang for buck...

My work colleague who sits next to me just traded in his VF SV6 for a V6 ZB RS-V. He loved his SV6 but says the ZB is a better car in every aspect - drive, power, handling, tech, extra storage space under the lift back - he loves it.

That’s not correct. I’ve owned VE and VF Calais and the VF was decked out wayyy better than the VE. In fact, in 2014 the VF was a standout in terms of the gadgets for its price point.

You could argue that, you could also argue if Commodores were so valuable then their price wouldn't decrease. So its probably best to stick with the universal method of valuation - price.

If we compare the ZB with a Mazda 6 like everyone insists on doing here Redbook seems to prove you wrong. Look at a 2014 Mazda 6 and compare it to a standard 2014 Commodore - the Mazda appears to me to hold its value more. Its hard to argue Commdores hold value when they lose half their value...

No sure what youre on about there mate. The ZB isnt competing with the Mazda 2 or 3, its competing with the 6 and the 6 isnt what women and their friends buy either.

Are you seriously implying Commodores traditionally hold a good resale? HA Also doesnt Mazda only come with a 3 year warranty? If so, the ZB would compete well against a similar model Mazda.

Can we agree to get this back onto the ZB? I know nothing but I reckon the ZB will be a moderate success if Holden gets the price and warranty right. If they don’t, this will be the last Commodore in history.

Interesting. Im a VF Calais V driver... Im surpised to hear you report this. The V6 VF Calais is hardly a grunty car (due to its weight). Its also interesting to hear your reports about the ZB not being as refined or comfortable - the popular ZB reviews haven't picked-up on this.

I saw a black ZB Calais this morning. Ironically, it pulled up next to a Mazda 6 at the lights right in front of me. Everyone isnt wrong to say they are a similar looking car but the ZB looked bloody good. I loved the look of the front LED lights in the dark gloomy morning. Theres no winning...

They probably can but the only people that want a V8 are the people on this forum. Its not commercially viable.

I wonder what the 5yr warranty will do to second hand market prices of Commodores. Traditionally Commodores lose nearly half their value once they hit 2-3 years old.

Planned obsolescence is the business model of this century unfortunately.

Spot on. Basically, the ZB is not for V8 enthusiasts - for everyone else its fine. I love my V6 VF Calais V and if I saw a ZB Calais V at the right price with the right warranty, Id be happy to upgrade.

Agreed mate. I think there is a lot of anger that they dropped the V8 which is fair enough but big engines will just become more and more of a thing of the past - a thing that enthusiasts will have on classics and the rest of the world buys trendy looking euro looking cars with gadgets.

I think the first one looks pretty neat. The second pic is dumped a bit too much for my liking but still I like the general look. I know a lot of people that would say all the past commodores all look like every other commodore on the road so each to their own I guess :-)
