H Series dash in LX Hatch

looks to be the standard LX dash with the facia of the H series grafted in, the crash pad is Torana, the lower section and the glove box is torana, only the facia section seems different, looks like a good job at making it fit, I wonder what it looks like behind the facia?

    any locksmiths out there

$20 is cheap, just pay up, from past experience, its worth every cent. Or take the door lock out and get it coded to the ignition key, probably more expensive than the key blade.

    Braking Issue.

I still think they don't need bedding in on a standard rotor, but slotted?, im pretty sure they need a bedding in period before you can go full race with them, especially with a slotted rotor, I cant see it being a good idea to fit new rotors and pads then see how well they work straight out of...

    Braking Issue.

I would take it back to the mechanic, brakes are one of those things you don't screw with unless you know what you are doing, I would say (without looking) the bed in process was done incorrectly and they are glazed. The ABS wont engage until a wheel locks, ABS looks at all the wheel speeds and...

    Sunvisor Clips

If you look at the front of he clip from the windscreen side you will see that it has a plastic pin slid in from the front, I just used a jewellers screwdriver and flicked it out. Be careful though as there is a spring and small plastic piece in the clip shell that are easy to lose

VP Commodore - Change Gearbox [Question]

The front exhaust has to come out, the steering rack needs to be dropped so you can get the cast iron inspection cover off, you can leave the starter bolted up if the inspection cover has the cut out that allows it to slide out, otherwise you will need to remove it, everything else is like any...

2007 hsv gts rear axle help please

The shaft will fit, only difference I have seen in the VE axles is the diameter of the shaft the splined end that goes into the diff is the same, and the bolt in end at the hub is the same, easiest way would to be putting the shafts side by side before you fit the new one.

Help!! i got bog on my car paint

If it has hardner in it and has gone hard, just get a scraper and gently knock it off without chipping the paint, then get some car polish and polish where it was removed. If its wet, with no hardner, just wipe it off and use some wax and grease remover to wash he residue off.

    sv5000 rear brake rotors

I would say if the outside diameter of the rotor is larger the caliper bracket would need to be longer from the bolt holes, to allow for the caliper to not foul the rotor when re fitted, then you will also need enough clearance for caliper to inside of the rim so a larger diameter rim may be needed.

Oil in water! Not a cracked head or Blown Gasket

Just because you cant see a crack or where a gasket has failed, does not mean that its something else, the crack could be internal on the cylinder head, under a valve seat etc, the gasket could be blown through but undamaged, get the head pressure tested, and if ok get it faced and replace with...

Is it worth doing Brake Pads without getting discs machined or new rotors?

Im not a brake expert, but I have tried this theory of warped disks out, well sort of, when I worked at Auto Bastards many moons ago, along with some co workers after a lunch time discussion on how true the brake lathe was, we used the onboard disk lathe to machine some rotors, after the initial...

    turbo starfire?

There used to be a guy in Perth who had a Starfire VC with the cutdown VK EFI and a Sprintex supercharger in the mid 90's, it had "STARFIRE" in black letters accross the bootlid, even running the sandard 13" wheels, we all used to laugh at him, but none of us could catch him, it was fairly...

Help - VE Driveshaft Hub nut removal

Ive pulled a couple of VE shafts out, you dont have to disturb the bearing, just unbolt the whole hub and take the shaft out, you would only need to change the bearing if you were to press out the axle hub from the main assembly.

r It could cause the engine to stall, as the crank angle sensor runs off the balancer and if its not aligned it will cause it to misfire and carry on.

    buggered engine

Are you sure its not the balancer, these can make some weird noises when they let go or are about to and the noise tranfers through the engine, I have had one where the balancer looked mint, no cracks nothing, but when we dropped the belt and ran it, the sound was nearly gone, changed the...

    Aussie 4 speed rebuild questions

I used to rebuild these every week for 8 years, cant tell you how many, thousands maybe :), never bothered counting them, used to buy 6 cylinder boxes and convert them to V8, with a new input shaft and a rebuild kit as most V8 ones were so badly worn or destroyed they were only good for scrap...

    Painting the VS rear garnish

I think most Supercheap stores have a tinting service, dont know if they can put it in a pressure pack for you, most places that tint colours do though, most auto parts stores sell small touchup pressure packs allready tinted to popular colours, main brand you see is Holts. Just make sure...

Just give it a sand with 600 wet, just a light sand enough to make it look dull, buy some plastic primer (it helps the paint stick to plastic), find your paint code on your ID tags (under bonnet) go get the colour made up or buy a touch up can in your colour, let the person mixing the colour...

    vy wheel bearings

I take its the front bearings you are after, just buy them from Repco, they come as a hub and bearing all in 1. You have to remove the calliper and disk rotor, the hubs are held on with allen key bolts from the rear of the hub, not a hard job with the right tools, just make sure you get...

Please can I have advice on swapping my VZ engine over.

Make sure you get the right engine as they are not all compatable, found this out the hard way myself :embarrass , you need to make sure the motor has the same engine code, generally on a sticker on the right side of the timing cover, as they have different cam sensors etc and wont fire up if...
