New Dads gather here (mums too I guess)

@JBDrifter: North Park Private hospital, Plenty Rd Bundoora. It's only about 4 minutes away from our house, or two and a half minutes with a wife in labour at 2AM...(no 'safety' cameras this end of the Ring Rd). I can't say enough great things about the staff at the Special Care Nursery there...

New Dads gather here (mums too I guess)

I've noticed that walking around outside helps me, and him. Only problem is that I live in Melbourne. Bit too cold and wet for 23 hours of the day to be outside. This little monster clearly is learning, and we are learning a lot about him too (all the different noises and movements and what...

New Dads gather here (mums too I guess)

@Reaper, cute little fella. Cheeky smile on him, got his first car picked out yet? Rest assured, I've been talking this through with my wife, with my psychiatrist, with my parents, with my mates. This is just ONE of the places I figured there might be some support, and it turns out that...

New Dads gather here (mums too I guess)

Thanks to everyone for such quick replies, and serious ones at that. @Julie. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boy who couldn't be with you. I've also found The Place for Postpartum Dads And Facts About Men With Postpartum Depression or Other Problems With Mood After Becoming A New...

New Dads gather here (mums too I guess)

Whether you want to brag about your new son/daughter/other, organise a meetup for newbie parents who want to get their children into Commodores from the day they come home from the hospital, or if you just need a place to post your concerns about being a parent. Just got my little boy home...

Pop the skin off one of the other doors and see how it all hooks up. See if you can get it to match the other door.

    VN Problem

DFI module would be my bet. Can you hear the fuel pump prime the system when you turn the key to "on" without starting the engine? I had a coil pack go on mine, dropping it down to 4 cylinders. It was rough as guts below 2000rpm, but as soon as I got it up and over that mark it revved like...

    Got an exhaust question

Looking at getting my engine done, going to do a 2 stage rebuild. First stage will be full engine rebuild (port, polish, rebuild, cam, rebore, tune, timing gear...), the second stage will be forced induction (top mount of an Eaton TVS with intercooler plate). In total I'm hoping for AT LEAST...

    S1 or S2

Here's something a bit different to all the usual S1 vs S2 questions. I'm looking at fitting an Eaton M90, and NO...I'm not going to swap out my S1 (LN3) engine for the L67 or even a S2. I've managed to track down a supercharger manifold for a "Buick 3800 V6", only problem is that there's no...

2.5 months, and still won't start

@voxbox: I knew there'd be someone out there who would know exactly what it was. There always is. :-) The good thing about 20 year old cars is that there's never a "new" problem, they've all happened to someone else before.

2.5 months, and still won't start

SHE RUNS!!! Turns out that when I replaced the CAS and the Balancer, I didn't line them up properly. Didn't even think about it at the time. Turned the engine over by hand to make sure that it wouldn't take off any fins on the back of the balancer...but didn't notice that it was shaving away...

2.5 months, and still won't start

My god I hope it isn't the timing chain, I haven't got the time or skills to do that. I was going to test the injectors the next chance I get, because it really seems to be a fuel issue. (or maybe that's just blind hope). I'm hoping that it's just some stale fuel that's gummed them up and...

2.5 months, and still won't start

The fuel pump still primes the lines, I've checked it a dozen times already. I just get paranoid that I missed something last time I checked it, so I check it again. I've been over the coil packs with the multimeter, all of them return the same reading across the posts (7.5kohm). I've been...

2.5 months, and still won't start

After sinking a lot of time into my pride and joy and more coin than I care to think about. I finally got to take it for a spin the other night, grand total of about 5km round trip. Now it won't start. It kicks and coughs and splutters, sometimes running for 5 seconds before it dies. The...

Starter motor sounds like a machine gun with no ammo

Cheers guys, I know the battery is good, tested it in another car. I'll chase through all the electrical gremlins then try replacing the solenoid. @Pub24/7: It clicks like crazy, and only JUST manages to move the engine around a couple of degrees, can't turn it over. I tried the old...

Starter motor sounds like a machine gun with no ammo

More or less summed it up in the title, but here's the details: The car has been off the road for a couple of months just while I fix various bits and pieces on it, I've just done a stack of bits today (harmonic balancer, O2 Sensor, Crank Angle Sensor, thermostat, radiator...). I hooked a...

    Multiple Memcals?

Okay, research time. Cheers. @Paradox: No need for a pedal restricter, just need to get a better tune so that I use less fuel to go just as hard. OR...use the same amount of fuel and go a little bit harder ;)

    Multiple Memcals?

Thanks for all that guys, you've given me a bit to think about. I hadn't thought about the fact that cruise happens at a very different point in the mapping tables to WOT. I've actually got a copy of TunerPro and the relevant binaries so I know what I'm looking at to a certain extent. I...

    Multiple Memcals?

Just wondering if it's possible to run multiple memcals in a V6 VN. Here's what I was thinking: Stack the chips (solder the legs from each one onto the shoulders of the one below it except for the power supply pin), and have a switch to switch the power to different chips. I'm handy enough...

    fuel prob?

This one is an aftermarket unit, the dodgy wire was hooked into the bottom of the DFI module. It just killed the spark to one bank of the engine. If you need it I should be able to get a pic up tomorrow, it's too dark for a shot now.
  25. mouce

    fuel prob?

If you've got an immobiliser fitted check all the wiring. When I first got my VN every left turn would kill the passenger side of the engine because of one dodgy connection in the immobiliser circuits. Took a few weeks to find that one out.

My Speedo is 10kmh out. Speed sensor?

I'm skidding around in my mum's excel at the moment, and I know the speedo in that is shagged. It's out by 10kph at 50-80. So find another way to test your speedo before you decide that it's rooted. Excels aren't the most accurate themselves.

New Rule for VN/ VP Drivers

I love the idea, though I'm gunna fix up my gauges real soon because now the tacho is sticking. I've gotta give it a tap to make it come to life, the fuel gauge and the temp gauge too. Only thing still working is the speedo, and even that's starting to get dicky. Problem will be that I see so...

    Engine Rebuild Recommendations (Melbourne)

How much do I love my car? It's my first car, I've just spent $2000 on suspension gear (6 months ago it copped a full Whiteline suspension front to back), I've had it for 6 years and it's a series 1 motor so it has lots of balls. I have thought about an engine swap, but I've got a seriously...

    Engine Rebuild Recommendations (Melbourne)

My dear old VN V6 has finally gotten to the magical 300,000km mark, and has decided that enough is enough. The oil leaks are now too many to count or keep up with (using really thick oil too), the cooling system let go, the p/s pump is making strange noises and there's a strange rattle...

    VX engine

Jump on redbook and check out all the engine/tranny combinations for each of the spec levels. I've just spent the last couple of hours going through it all. I'm now in the process of hunting down a VXII to call my own, after having my VN pass away.

    Changing Brake Pads

Worth bleeding the system anyway if you have the time. Especially if you're going to be throwing such high-quality pads in there...might as well have nice new fluid to go with them,.

    My vn brakes

^^^You might not have had to do them, but you should bleed them at some point. Brake fluid is like pretty much every fluid in the car. It needs to be changed every now and then.

    should i keep the vn?

I'm in exactly the same situation (S1 5spd with 270,000 on the dial) and I'm saving every penny I can to put towards a rebuild. There isn't a lot that's going to make me sell the car, the VN as a whole is worth looking after, the VN manual is worth special treatment. If you're thinking of...

    fusion or clarion

The old-school Fusion amps (not the stuff carried by Repco now) are what my ears really love, I haven't spent a huge amount of time with the new ones, but if they are anything like the old ones then...I'll back them.

My ears tell me that the fusion gear sounds better. What do your ears tell you? That's really the only way to judge it...have a listen to it and see what you think.

    reasons for bad fuel ecconomy??

Lucky you with your own burner, I can't wait to get mine. Hopefully sometime after the stereo, suspension and rims/tyres have been sorted LOL. Something else to think about would be compression...you noticed it running a bit rougher than normal? Could be that you've dropped a cylinder or one...

    reasons for bad fuel ecconomy??

LOL...depends on which of foamy's tunes you're running, but at least one of them was a complete fuel whore. Try running a stock memcal and see what you get. It might be a tad slower, but that will mean that you can compare the fuel figures to what everyone else is getting.

    reasons for bad fuel ecconomy??

The Oxygen sensor (top of the passenger side exhaust manifold) can die. And when it does it'll send your fuel figures through the roof. Worth looking at anyway.
