Group C Big Banger Spec Help

I can’t remember where I got them from now (it was back in 2104), but it was directly out of the states. The USD-AUD was parity at the time, I remember that! I powder coated mine, but most just paint them these days. You’ll need to measure your wheels (diameter & backspace) requirements then let...

VT brake upgrade in - but Reservoir is tilted - which one will fix this issue?

I don't get mind opening the bonnet that’s for sure!

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

My VS in the wet has a tendency to wheel spin (without being an idiot) even when turning from a standstill, I went looking for an O/e IRS LSD centre originally, I found a couple in the $700-800 range. So the upgrade to a far superior, smoother & quieter LSD option was a no brainer. The V6 won't...

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Ill let you know long term, its only a $350 investment in a bog standard V6, all I can say currently; its quiet & works. I thought it was worth a punt when “Cars N Things Restos” put one in their 550hp blown (burnout & part time drag car) LS Statesman!

Engine revs don't reduce when backing off

Isolate the booster line & check the throttle cable make sure it’s not binding. Spray brake clean along the inlet manifold gaskets up to the throttle body. Don’t forget the vacuum lines for the heater controls.

What did you do to your VR/VS today?

Chinese “truetrac”, I had to grind the end of the pinion (it did advise that in the ad for “some” housings), but for $350 its a cost effective solution.

    VK 308

Also you need to change the actual accelerator pedal to a V8 one (or change the pivot point on your 6 cyl one). You won’t achieve full throttle as there is not enough travel on the cable with the 6 cyl pedal. This is how I did mine: The black plastic GM mount needs to turn 180 deg’s (out of the...

VK to VT brake upgrade - rear hubs

Early HSV’s & some Group A’s had a vented rear rotor & Corvette PBR caliper all bolt on, hard to find now in Australia. Swapping out to VT rears is not worth the effort IMO, 1250kgs max is all you’re stopping.

VT brake upgrade in - but Reservoir is tilted - which one will fix this issue?

The other issue is the retaining hole needs to be re-drilled in the new VS/AU reservoir to correctly locate on the VT master cylinder body. Agree, every time I open my bonnet on my VK the line adaptors look like dogs balls, but put up with it as it stops now.

Clutch fork and pivot ball adjustment?

There is a fair bit of science getting the clutch to disengage correctly in a conversion. V8‘s need the right pedal box 100%, the clutch cover/plate/release bearing/carrier/fork all need to be in good condition (if your budget extends to it I would replace all the clutch components) if the...

Leaking oil from oil pressure sensor

Don’t leave the plastic line in, either swap out to electric or std light. It will fail, they get hard and brittle & will break.

VR V6 to LS 1/2 or Iron Lion 5.0v8

I’ve got a mint auto VR V6 <50k kms sedan, 1 owner chariot that I’m thinking of re-powering. (Im not a V6 hater at all, but once you’re have V8’s you’ll never turn back haha). The chances of finding an affordable 1 owner V8 <50k kms is out of my budget! Without knowing the ins & outs of the...

    VK LS1 AC (Air Conditioning)

Hey Mario, I just went to an “automotive” AC specialist with a measured bit of string noting what I wanted & they made up the hoses, then once together I drove it back & got it re-gassed. I can’t remember the place exactly but was somewhere near Alexandria. You definitely need AC in Sydney with...

    VK LS1 AC (Air Conditioning)

It will be easier if the VK had AC as an option when built, you should be able to marry the LS compressor into the VK dryer/condenser & dash switch. I’d replace dryer when making the new hoses.

VR VS Calais fog lights bezel cut out

What a mission! From the inside looks like a pigs ear! NOTE: retaining clips can only used once, they need to be cut in half or you will tear off the lugs from the surround! Also does anyone have a picture of the actual fog lamps in place (fixed to the vehicle)?

    VT brake booster in VS

I did this same job just before x-mas to my 1994 VR (ABS model), very simple! VT rotors & calipers direct bolt on, the backing plates just need a small trim. New front brake hoses, VT booster & master cylinder using the same bracket as mentioned above, again all bolt on (only issue the stud...

My next job as well, looking at the bezel you don't have to be too accurate as it covers a fair chunk of the front bar (famous last words)!

Heater core replacement, went to Bunnings & purchased some foam self adhesive window seal for $10.00. Sealed both tank ends (9mm x 6mm) & along the sides (19mm x 6mm) to seal core in heater box.

    VR heater core vacuum hoses

Hi just replaced my heater core & can’t remember which ports the black & yellow vacuum hoses went to. Yellow vertical / Black horizontal??? These are the only hoses I temporarily removed. All back together however the directional air flow for demist to foot areas aren’t correct.
