LS3 cold start Slap is driving me crazy!

Yes some engines are out of spec and need work but on the whole it's a compromise. You want quiet, go back to an iron block with steel pistons and then wonder why it's heavy and doesn't make as much power - LS engines are noisy and they have been since they were new. The alloy pistons to the...

LS3 cold start Slap is driving me crazy!

Lack of refinement yes, but what do you expect from essentially an engine configuration from the 60's and 70's that's been refined over the years. It's not an advanced multi overhead cam European engine. A lot of people complain about the LS motors as soon as they start to make the slightest of...

    Faulty ECU - DTC P0601

Due to safety reasons, ECM's always use error correction and redundant memory. That's part of why they're typically quite expensive.

    Faulty ECU - DTC P0601

Definitely an ECU. P0601 is simply a module reporting it's failed an internal self-check. The troubleshooting guide for P0601 in any module is basically: check power and grounds. If all OK then replace the module. They are repairable through the right place though (injectronics if I recall may...

Vf calais v 6.0 litre lifter replacement issues

I suspect you've had backyarders work on your car. For starters, the cam and lifters should be replaced as a set according to the workshop manual. I would also suspect that if they've done a random "lets throw some lifters in it" then they've perhaps not used the right lifters. The lifters on...

    Malfunction light

Incorrect. There's a separate prompt for "Oil change due soon" or something similar with reference to engine oil. "Service vehicle soon" is a prompt used by a lot of newer Holdens (VZ was the first to use this if I recall) indicating an engine fault light that's non-urgent or non-emissions...

I Can I fit brembo brakes on a vf 1 ssv with 20 inch Om-1 simmons

QLD's wording is pretty straightforward though. Doesn't say "model variant" it says "model". So in this case make/model would be Holden/Commodore.

I Can I fit brembo brakes on a vf 1 ssv with 20 inch Om-1 simmons

Check with a friendly engineer in NSW but with that wording, I feel good to be in QLD: 1.1 MODIFICATIONS NOT REQUIRING CERTIFICATION The following modifications may be performed without certification: -Fitting a manufacturer’s optional braking system for the particular make/model; So I bolted...

    Apple CarPlay on VF

I don't have a HUD (standard SS) but none of the IPC functions work (e.g. the Nav page). The phone apps aren't provisioned for vehicle connectivity. A small price to pay I reckon.

    Recommendations for Hydraulic Lifter replacement

The L77 is mechanically exactly the same auto to manual. In manual vehicles there is no provision for wiring to the AFM control solenoid and it's run as a V8 all the time. The later L77's aren't as common for lifter failures as earlier L76's but it still does happen, particularly more often if...

285 kW flash into VY2 SS ute, goes slower.

So you don't have headers to go with the tune? The 285kw HSV tunes had tri-y headers which were quite sought after for a bit as they flow pretty well. If you've got a tune not matched with the correct hardware of course it's going to perform like ****.

    Electronic throttle controller?

Throttle "lag" as it's commonly referred to in your DBW electronic throttle vehicle is usually a function of things like anti-thrash, drivability refinement and mechanical component protection. It's common in a modern engine tune to limit how quickly a throttle blade opens to reduce shock on the...

    Electronic throttle controller?

No it really doesn't. All it does is make applying the pedal 1-50% for example look to the computer as though it's 1-75% by fudging the resistances sent back to the ECM. It does absolutely nothing for opening the throttle body quicker or reducing throttle "lag" as it's not changing anything...

    Electronic throttle controller?

They're a stupid gimmick that just fudges the throttle position sensor. No different to smashing your throttle pedal harder.

VFII SSV Gearbox / clutch issue?

Clutch shudder will be a little bit of heat that's affected the flywheel/pressure plate faces. Can't do much to fix it apart from replace the clutch and change your driving style, and it's not really a manufacturing defect. My clutch has copped a little bit and I get the occasional slight...

    VF2 SSV Redline Upgrades

Power characteristics are a function of engine hardware (i.e. gains will be across the whole range with more occurring at the top end being N/A). You can't tune for "bottom end" power as that's not how it works. If you want to change the characteristic and add power in a particular range you're...

    Apple CarPlay on VF

Hey mate, no photos of the install itself, it was pretty easy and the supplied instructions are good at the actual radio removal and fitment. The hardest part was installing the GPS antenna (even though I have no nav in my unit being the i902 it does have an antenna to supply a more accurate...

[Safety Recall] Electric Power Steering — MY2014 to MY2016 Holden & HSV, VF Commodore & WN Caprice

I would be surprised if it DIDN'T pull to the left on a slight road fall with those specs. The front camber split is wrong, it should be split with more on the left front to counteract the road fall. Those settings are rather conservative too, great if you do highway driving but if you drive...

How much would this bother you ?

Repair it. It's only $120 and it will **** you every time you look at it. I'm in a similar boat at the moment, but my damage is very minor and it's an aftermarket rim that has a black lip. I'm hoping I can patch it to unnoticable for $20 of paint.

    VF2 SSV Bolt ons.

I have a 232/234 with gains at the bottom end from the standard cam on the dyno sheet (both same dyno, same operator). I didn't gain much at the bottom and it's obvious to see the power comes on more as RPM increases but you don't LOSE power at the bottom with a bigger cam.

My unit doesn't have Alpine nav (I got the i902 instead of the x902). I figure between Waze, Google and Apple maps I've got some form of nav that will work correctly and I don't need to worry about updating maps.

To be fair, in larger areas where all of the other mainstream brands have a presence, they really will have to take what they can get or shut down.

Depends on the dealership. We had an active used car department (70 or so units a month) and finance/insurance made a killing. Our budget give or take (depending on # of days in the month etc) as a dealership was about $700k gross profit a month. Not sure what net profit was though, I didn't see...

Say one thing, do another: 5 years support, not 10...

New cars are a small part of it. I was at a dealership that was selling ~50 new cars a month at a couple grand gross profit per vehicle on average. On a good month the service department would gross ~$180 - $200k and parts would be ~$120 - $130k. Overheads were a killer though, my service...

Say one thing, do another: 5 years support, not 10...

That's not what I'm implying but the existing agreements are no good when they specify things such as new car showrooms, access to new car inventory etc. The existing agreements are being exited early with new fixed ops only contracts being put in place.

Say one thing, do another: 5 years support, not 10...

Contracts that are being terminated due to Holden no longer existing as a new car company. Dealer agreements have always been 5 years max, nothing new to see here. Shouldn't make much of a difference. Holden transitioned to using the global dealer management system based in Detroit (with minor...

    Updating the VF to 2020

Yeah it wasn't hard, just time consuming and a bit fiddly. Plug and play apart from 1 wire to splice into the supplied harness (they give you both the wire and the harness, no idea why it can't come attached but anyway). The hardest part was where the instructions said "simply run the GPS...

What is your Holden worth now!

I've got my SS Storm ute insured for about $33k, I paid $36k for it new 5 and a half years ago and have dropped another $16-$18k in mods. Android Auto / Carplay addon

Everything I hear about the third party Mylink addons is that they "kind of" work and aren't really all that great. Honestly I'd rather drop $1000 on the pokies because it's probably about as much of a gamble as a half-arsed third party addition. I don't mind dropping the money on the Alpine (I...
