hand break warning light warning light

I'm back. First up, handbrake wasn't left on. She's a better driver then that. Racv bloke said when it makes those beep alarms, it's usually hydraulic problems. Anyhow, up on stands, wheels off, no wear at all on handbrake pads, so it's not that. Rear pads were past usable, so replaced them...

hand break warning light warning light

I thank you for all your replies, but it's more than just the handbrake handle. Brakes were smelling and pedal sometimes spongey. I won't know any more until I get a chance to look at it tomorrow.

hand break warning light warning light

Thank for all that bluehighway. I have no problems working on brakes. Was just hoping, but highly unlikely, that the op would come back. But only 3 posts and years ago, so doubted it Never ever had to do handbrake stuff. Just the way it's worked out. It is strange that it is the exact same...

hand break warning light warning light

Sorry. I know this thread is quite old, but my partner rang me and described the exact same thing happened to her as what the op has explained. I'm at work and she's getting car towed home, but it's 2 hours before everyone closes for the Australia day long weekend, so no mechanic will be able...

Water pump gasket. Why is there 2 in the pack?

It's not so much the tension, but where the belt would run on the pulley. Was worried it may be a bit too much towards front of car, meaning it would be a bit on the curved part of the pulley. Which could make it run off it. Wasn't hard to put it on anyway. Did do a noob mistake and forget to...

Water pump gasket. Why is there 2 in the pack?

Just an update. Seems to have gone well. Used the single gasket, but did use the spacer. Measured the thickness of the piece the spacer bolts on to, and without it, would have been thinner. But, just as I was about to type this reply, I realised it may have been thinner, but could have been...

Water pump gasket. Why is there 2 in the pack?

Thanks to both of you. Should have mentioned it was for a VX, so not an early version. The spacer plate had me scratching my head too, but even if that is or isn't needed, that's an easy on/off job.

Water pump gasket. Why is there 2 in the pack?

My replacement water pump arrived, and has 2 identical gaskets with it. Even the pictures of the pumps for sale show 2 gaskets. Why? Are you supposed to use them both? I would have thought just make a thicker gasket. So do they just come with a spare? Or I'm supposed to double them up? Thanks.

    quality of ebay hubs

Just an update for anyone following. I order d the CBC hubs through Supercheap. They arrived in nice shiny CBC bearings boxes. Open boxes to find more boxes, of Kelpro hubs. I possibly wrongly thought CBC made them, but seems they just distribute stuff from elsewhere. Anyway, just finished...

    quality of ebay hubs

I was going to go in to the shop, but thought a quick price over the phone would have been easier. Just looked it up, and the phone call was over 8 minutes. It seemed to take him forever to get the prices. There was also a weird big difference between sides too. Like $60 difference between left...

    quality of ebay hubs

Bit of an update. SCA showed 2 different types/standards from CBC. One type was the "economy" version. These are $123 each. So $246 for the pair, click and collect as a special order. About 2 days to get them in. Called CBC beforehand. Expected them to be cheaper. Nup. All up was $280 How does...

    quality of ebay hubs

I never knew about the "parts guide" option. Made it much easier. Showed the hubs as a CBC brand. So I'll go straight to CBC instead. Really don't want to chance eBay ones, as it's the missus life, and others, if they just fell apart. Interestingly, CBC have "normal" (I suppose) and "economy"...

    quality of ebay hubs

Thanks losh. 2nd hand bearing doesn't really appeal to me, as have no idea of it's condition. Forgot all about bearing places. I only think of normal bearings, not hubs when thinking bearings. Tried looking at CBC bearings website and it's a bit hard to get around. Store in my suburb, so I'll...

    quality of ebay hubs

Very much a thread dig, but no need to start a new thread bout the same thing. Last reply was about 7 years ago, so maybe things have changed. Need new hubs for the missus VX. Are eBay ones still considered okay? If not, where so I buy replacements from? Trying to find the correct part through...

    Our old VE Calais :(

I know how you feel. I had to sell my GSX-R1100 to buy a different car, because family of 6 wouldn't fit in the Datsun. So the next 10 years of my life, I drove a Mitsubishi L300 people mover thing. But as you found, it's easier sometimes. (Our Daughter has a disability) Only good thing was...

Replacing brake master cylinder ( non ABS) vt, v6 sedan

I can't really help with the price, but isn't it like $99 at a dealer for a brake fluid flush? Which would put the cost up a lot more if also changing the brake master cylinder?

Won't get that asking price. Or in my opinion, not remotely close.

Yes. In theory, it should draw fluid back from the overflow container.

    Cooling Fan Removal

Thanks. I did read post 2 but it seemed like that was how you'd seperate the plugs, (and probably is, but I wasn't sure it would also remove the plugs from the holder. Won't be able to have another look at the car until the weekend.

The green coolant is a rust inhibitor. Or the green can ba an anti freeze, which I believe raises the boiling point. Or they're a combined mix. A 500ml bottle of green inhibitor was only $12. (Makes 10litres) and also makes seeing a leak a lot easier

Vt commodore v6 over heating problems

Well, I'll be stuffed. 40 years of driving, and thanks to YouTube, now I know how/what a radiator cap actually does. I mean, I knew what they did, but didn't understand how. I got that they held coolant in, and under pressure, the inside raised so excess coolant could get to the overflow tank...

"expand...to test fans turn your AC and heater fan on to one and both fan should come on if not check relay" Sorry. Haven't figured out how to quote on my phone yet. Only the pass side fan starts, with air con on, and only that one when it was getting too hot. I did do the electrical relay...

Vt commodore v6 over heating problems

Thanks immortality. I did wonder, if you just unplug it when hot, if it would rely on sucking water from the overflow bottle. I treat the radiator cap, and how it works as electrickery. Doesn't make sense to me. As for using a coke bottle, I searched the entire house for a bottle and not a...

Vt commodore v6 over heating problems

Couldn't for the life of me find a bottle that would fit in the filler hole, so put the car up on ramps today and topped it up. Cap looked like the highest part. As I'm going to be doing more work on this car, I may get a filler set thingy anyway. About $30 from Amazon.

    Cooling Fan Removal

I hate to bump an old thread, but how do you get them our of the holder? I understand how they would disconnect, but what's holding them in to the frame. I don't want to try and pry it out with a screwdriver, only to find the plugs are on some sort of clips. Need to unplug the low speed fan and...

Vt commodore v6 over heating problems

Thanks. I won't be buying the proper tool, because it wouldn't get used enough. Same with the fuel line removal tool. Used the top of an auto trans 1 litre bottle I found in the shed. Actually worked. Working on car now. Only stopped to check there is only 12 manifold bolts. I swore there was...

Vt commodore v6 over heating problems

Reading your reply, yeah, that makes sense. If there was a leak/hole somewhere in the system, then it makes sense the coolant would then be able to flow back out. I'll be stuffed. I'd never thought about it. I shall try with a milk bottle tomorrow.

Vt commodore v6 over heating problems

Interesting. I've seen the proper types used in some YouTube clips, but what I don't get, is once the system is full, as soon as you take away the milk bottle, wouldn't the coolant flow straight out the filler hole, as it tries to level itself? Doing my intake manifold gaskets tomorrow morning...

How to test vx dash temp gauge

I just found this thread below, and says the gauge is fed details from the ecu. https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/vx-v6-coolant-temp-sensor-to-guage.112837/

How to test vx dash temp gauge

Error... I don't know. I just thought there was only the sensor screwed in to the thermostat housing. Time to do some more searching. Actually, the temp sender Repco wanted to sell me just had one clip on it, so maybe there is 2 senders? Bugger

And after all that, I still don't know how to test the dash gauge. :)

How to test vx dash temp gauge

Well, an update. Disconnecting the temp sensor does nothing for the dash gauge. Just stays down on cold. As to this car. I was proud of myself. Everything went well, no bolts dropped, everything back in place. Start car to warm it up and bleed air, and it's taking a long time for temp gauge to...

How to test vx dash temp gauge

Thanks for the reply. I'll see what the gauge does later tonight unplugged. And I think you're right about the pressure part. Been a while since I did any serious work on cars, and not sure where to start with this one. Thinking out loud here, if the top hose blew, it's because pressure built...

How to test vx dash temp gauge

Missus V6 2002 VX blew the top radiator hose. 2nd time in 3 years. She said the dash gauge still showed normal. I've bought new parts to install tonight after work, by torchlight, and a new temp sender, but how can I test that the dash gauge is able to go past half way? Want to see if it...

Vx ignition won't turn car off

Just an update. It was the ignition barrel, at the end of the pin. Needed the car so had a locksmith replace it, and they keyed it to suit current key. Cost more than I'd like, but just don't have time to do it myself. He said of all the fails, (3 main ways) mine was the way it doesn't normally...

Vx ignition won't turn car off

So the missus calls me from the driveway and says her car won't turn off. Key rotates, remove it and steering lock clunks in to place, key back in, turn and steering lock disengages. But car won't turn off. Ended up blocking air intake to stall it, then removed battery terminals. I've done some...

Replacing radiator. Anything tricky/difficult about it?

Bit of a late update, but I only just got around to replacing it today. Long story short, if it could go wrong, it did. Original radiator was the wrong type. So had to bend the oil lines a little to fit fan back in. Didn't have 2 shifters/spanners right size to undo oil lines at the union, so...
