My VF2 SS starts in 1st but spends as little time as possible in it. In drive it is super lazy, changes to 2nd super quickly and very reluctant to kick down to 1st unless you really boot it as very low speed.... otherwise it just pulls 2nd and goes crap. I think 2nd in the A6 is way too long...

I don't have the actual weights but I have picked up a bare VF1 wheel and it was impressively light for a 19. Those particular VF1 wheels were forged, the VFII wheels are cast and made in Thailand.

Did you consider a set of VF1 redline wheels or did you specifically want something non-OEM ? There are still some around new, they are made in USA, forged and light. I assume they fit over VFII brakes ?

There is not an unlimited number of people willing to pay RRP or above for a Commodore. The dealers held the MY17 prices high while they were moving to milk those willing to pay, but as more of them arrive to the lot they have to get sold like everything else.
