    Fusion CA-IP500

These units come with a whole box full of adaptors for just about every model Ipod ever made so you probably won't need to buy anything extra and I guess if your an Ipod freak you won't care too much about carrying CD's with you anyway. The IP-500s I've installed have all worked fine.

    2 Amps 1 sub wiring

I've seen this done using two crossfire 1000w D class amps, remember them, and a dual coil Kicker 12" sub. It was in a sealed box of medium size and was sealed so tight he reckons you could stand on the cone although I never saw him do it. Sounded awsome, probably the biggest bang I've ever...

Where to place speakers in VK

The Calais had small speakers and grills moulded together and were a real pain to get out and even worse to get back in when youve realised you cant change them for anything decent. The lower models had 4" speakers under removable grills but you had to remove the air vents to get at the screws...

Vs door moulds for 6inch speakers

I'm trying to work out exactly what it is you want. Don't you have the factory door pods?, if not you should try a Holden wreckers, i'm sure they'll have them. If your replacing the originals with some aftermarket ones then you can get the fibreglass ones from just about any audio shop including...

    Can't get amp to work.

Sounds like the head unit has gone into protect, disconnect the speaker wires at the deck completely and try again. One bit of advise, never run your amp without the earth connected cos it will try and earth via the RCA shielding and will damage your deck, luckilly it may be earthed by the...

    eurovox head unit problems

Option 3 is my best advice too, and by the way ... when you removed the tape with pliers you DID damage the mechanism, I've seen it a hundred times.

don't know what to call this-

Sounds like an earthing or power supply porblem to me. Have a look at your power cable fuse, it's interesting that it came good when the engine warmed up, might indicate a poor connection at the fuse. (which will be close to the battery, won't it?, I hope so.) I always try to keep power and...

sub box general question / perspex?

I've had good results using policarbinate, never used perspex although I guess it's just a lower grade of material. Obviously the thicker stuff you use the better but it's horrendously expensive in thicker sizes. I used a piece about 500mm long x 250mm wide x 10mm thick in a double sub box and...

Replacment head unit that works with steering wheel controls

The CAT 10 works fine on just about every car I've come across, except C Class Mercs ... grrr Why bother trying to make one ?

    AutoBarn - Not Happy !

While it's true that customers are not always right, it's also true that they don't complain about stuff if you've done a correct and professional job. There must be something in it otherwise Teef would'nt be here going on about it. And he said they tried to get the marks off without success...

    Help please

Yep, the aerial plug is the same as the VT, the plug on the back of the VX unit has a small plastic tag you need to push in before it'll come out, you cant just yank it out. And you can get that adaptor lead with a VX plug on it so you wont have to change any wiring at all. Go back to Autobarn...

    Annoying Problem.

Yes it can, most head units these days have that feature in that it will shut down the output IC if anything shorts out. Remount your speaker so the connector clears any metal and you'll be fine.

    pioneer CDX FM637S CD Box

It's been a while since I've seen one of these, but from memory there is a 1/8" stereo plug on the back of the stacker that the coax cable plugs into. It is both an input and an output, so if it's been cut off I'm guessing the antenna I/O box is missing. It's a small silver box with aeiral...

    Subs Keep blowing

Set your subsonic filter to 15 or 25 htz, it stops the sub trying to produce sounds that the human ear can't hear anyway. A 15" sub should have a good bass extension at low frequencies, set your LPF at 50hz, although it's a personal preference and depends on your own taste. You havn't...

    Earthquake Audio - anyone?

I remember hearing some awsome systems that had Earthquake speakers, it was in it's day one of the best when used correctly. If I still had some of thier subs in good condition I'd be happy to use them although there is plenty of other brands around these days that would rate just as highly...

    Subs Keep blowing

Your amp and sub should work fine if the sub is a 4 Ohm or 2 Ohm type and I'm not familiar with the US Audio range so I'm assuming it's not a dual 2 Ohm sub and you have it running at 1 Ohm which is too low for your amp. Take the wires to the sub off the amp and measure the resistance across...

    Subs Keep blowing

Most amps will have a low pass filter, but even if your running the subs in full range mode it shouldn't damage them. The most likely cause is either your under powering your speakers or they are wired incorrectly, meaning that the amp amy be seeing too low a resistance. We need to know what...

How do I use this "wiring harness"?

Just take it back to where you got it from and order the correct adaptor, they are all available. All the popular ones anyway, Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood etc.

    Sound 'deadener'

I've used both, not any real difference as far as I can see, both great products. Any customer who wants a serious job done will get it quoted in the price, I won't do a major job without it. Some people get it and don't even know it.

Resistors and LED's - replacing incandecent bulbs

Does that screen dim with the dash control?, meaning a lower voltage to the globe when dimmed, I'm not sure your LED will like that too much.

Why does my car audio gear keep blowing up?

Then don't take it to Autobarn, go to another Clarion dealer, or look in the phone book for a Clarion repair agent and deal with them direct. All you need is your receipt as proof of purchase. You don't have to go back to where you bought it.

Why does my car audio gear keep blowing up?

I'm with you mate, it's really the pits when you've spent a lot of hard earned money only to have it go wrong. One thing about your story worries me a bit. Who is going to charge you $150 to do a quote on you head unit repair?, cos that's plainly a ripoff. There are many repair agents that do...

Didn't the RACV guy have one? Surely he tested the battery ? Cos all your symptoms point to a flat battery.

    Left side speakers don't work

RCA's in backwards? .... why can't that be fixed at the amp end?, should cost almost nothing. System tune and playing with RCA's ... $120 !!, gees, I'm moving my business to Melbourne !!!

    Got No Sound :S

That means the deck is trying to earth through the dash light wire, fix it by adding a wire from the deck straight to ground, don't trust the earth wire in the loom.

    Cabling for stereo installation

I always run the power cable down the R/H side cos thats the side the battery is on, the RCA's down the L/H side usually or if I have the centre console out I run them down the centre. The RCA's won't interfere with your speaker cables, the small turn on lead can go wherever. It only draws a few...

    VK-VZ Stereo wiring colours.

When you say these wires come from the amp do you mean from the back of the radio? Is it a genuine VL radio ?, it dosn't sound familliar, but if it is, it will probably be a common ground unit. Thats where there are only 6 speaker wires instead of 8. I would have a record of that somewhere if it...

VS Engine into VR - Problem

The BCM is located above the fusebox, next to the steering colum. I had a chat with some Holden mechanical wizards today and sorry, the news isn't good. the VS BCM isn't compatable with a VR wiring loom. At the very least you'd need to change the dash loom and that would mean using a VS dash...

    Speakers 6.5"

I find it interesting that it took 4 replies before anyone mentioned an amp. I don't think Luke meant that all 125wrms speakers will sound bad, he could have said it better I guess. Keep in mind that you need to match your amp and speakers to get the best results, (probably heaps of posts on...

    VT cigarette lighter fuse blows

I've found that it's common for the socket to short out where the wires join the socket, they are very close to each other and are only crimped in place. One or two strands of the earth wire can come out and touch the live wire causing it to blow the fuse. Take the top off your console and have...

    Neg battery lead to engine

NO !!! The engine MUST be earthed to the battery direct, or you'll be earthing the starter through some smaller wires that arn't designed to carry that much current and as someone else said, there will be trouble. You can replace that battery to engine wire with a larger one if you want and...

    Neg battery lead to engine

Well done mate, you've obviously learned a valuable lesson, and while I personally think that 'hot earth' theory is a load of claptrap, repacing both the pos and neg cables to the engine can't hurt.
  36. M

    Neg battery lead to engine

It is essential that you leave an earth connected to the engine as this is the main earth for the starter motor and the engine electrics. You will certainly benifit from an extra earth to the chassis. If you have an amp installed this earth wire should be at least as big as your power cable...

Amp and sub into standard ute system

I've installed a Pioneer monoblock amp, not sure of the model number, and a slimline Pioneer 10" box into a VE ute. The amp has a high level input option and while it wasn't totally awsome, it did sound pretty good and the guy drove away smiling.

    Got No Sound :S

The yellow/red wire is the electric aerial wire, it goes to the blue/white wire on your deck. The most common reason for having no sound is that one of the speakers is shorted, did they work with the original deck? If yes then the problem is almost certainly with your wiring, if no, then check...

    Sub THen Speakers

Has this noise just suddenly started?. (I assume nothing else has changed). The only thing that can change is the power supply so I'm thinking you should get a load test done on your battery and make sure the alternator is charging. Have you actually had the engine running ?. After an onsite...
