    Flogging a dead horse

You deserve a medal.....all that input makes the car worth keeping. I have done many of the same things and now like my car. Also I am now in the "Old bastard with a holden" club...I am happy and you will be too.

    VZ Wagon First Car? Pros/Cons!

My VZ wagon has been with me for eighteen months...sometimes I love it and sometimes not. I bought it with 173000km on the clock, now showing 189000km. Since purchasing the car I have had the following work done: new discs and pads front and rear, replaced brake fluid, new water pump, idler...

Rattle in the steering wheel boss

Thanks Savvy I will tweak that but ......I am pretty sure it is the mysterious clips. I dont want to poke anything in those holes if I am not sure what I am doing...not called munter for nothing.

Rattle in the steering wheel boss

My mechanic reckons it is some clips and has sorted the problem before. Something has come loose again. Rattle rattle when going over sharp bumps. I was hoping to solve it myself but need some advice on what it is and what to feel for or do. Is it fixable using a flat blade screwdriver and...

    Facebook problem.

Love the Bookface....it is a lot of things most of which I like. Once you figure out how to control it....er wait on a bit. As an aside Facebook is probably watching you. Some time back I started searching for replacement brake components, discs and pads. What starts to show up as...

    Rim advice for a numpty

I have an 05 VZ wagon with 17 inch X 8 inch rims and 235/45 tires. They work well but look carp. I want 18 inch rims as they look better in my opinion. I like the VY and VZ SS styles. My doubts and questions are about fitment and rub on the body. My car is standard ride height and assume...

    RIM Questions

Please tell me more about that panhard rod. I am wanting to move to 18inch rims on my VZ wagon from my current 17's so is the rod an essential item? TIA

new to holdens, do i want a VY or VZ

I bumbled into Holden ownership last December. I bought an 05 VZ wagon with 174000km on it as a replacement for an aging Jeep cherokee. I wasnt aware of the model connotations but thought newer was better. The vehicle has had some maintenance items replaced and now feels good and drives well.

Do All Alloytec's rattle at start up?

Hi Jandg....my starter has been reconned and works like it should so that isnt the issue....more of a clatter at the front or top of the engine for a few seconds, then the engine quietens and runs well. 177 thousand k's on it though.

Do All Alloytec's rattle at start up?

I have a rattle at cold start and have recently had an oilchange and used the MBL8 additive....the rattle is still there for a couple of seconds. Some threads suggest it is the timing chain tensioners. I saw one guy said his car was still doing it 50,000km after noticing it. Still unclear on...

Wheel nut torque, rattle guns, etc

I agree, the feel is important.....sort of muscle memory. Your brain might be thinking cricket while your hands are putting the wheel back on. I agree again....do we all need a rattle gun or is it a case of want a rattle gun?

Knob job.....is replacing the selector lever an easy task?

Thanks, I will revisit the video. I like a tidy car and enjoy seeing other vehicles, no matter what type, receiving attention from their owners.

Knob job.....is replacing the selector lever an easy task?

Thanks Risky. I can tell you are a Commodore enthusiast. What exactly is a trim removal tool? and is that diagram all I need to follow to take the centre console out?

Knob job.....is replacing the selector lever an easy task?

yeah, thanks for asking. I painted the missing silver on the knob with Tamiya acrylic modelling paint....cheap quick fix. Looks OK for what it is. The real change will have to wait until I have attended to some other essential stuff. After my exploits into painting the brake hubs and calipers...

what did you do to your car today?

Recently I had my discs and pads replaced. The disc hubs looked good but after a week or so rust spots started to appear and the look was deteriorating rapidly. Today I removed the wheels and rust killed the spots and painted the hubs and calipers(after a scrub with a wire brush) This task...

    Creaky Brakes???

If you can make the sound last for a long time ie a few seconds, it will be the pads and discs talking to each other, nothing to worry about as said above. If it is a short sound you possibly have a sus suspension joint somewhere in the system.

clunk in rear end when turning right.

Did that in my Mini once...kinda pig rooted into the curb and the left rear rim made contact. The swing arm/subframe was bent. The alignment guy bent it out again for me. No clunking though so I guess you have ruined a joint of some kind. Have you jacked the corner up and had a look, a push and...

what to look for in a euro daily

My mechanic told me about a nice BMW convertible that was brought in by the woman owner a few years back. She was visiting from out of town. The car wasn't running well. He diagnosed the problem as a spark plug lead (simple) and repaired it with parts from his workshop. He priced a set of...

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

We have the self serve register at a supermarket near us. The thing that gets my goat is the automated voice that is slightly excited, slightly too quick and most importantly, slightly too loud. I am in my 60's and dont mind sharing my opinion when necessary.....I sometimes talk back to the...
