    1997 VS ute info please

Thanks Struma, that means that all VSII utes will have remote central locking. 235RWKW It must be a Series I, maybe June 1996. Check out the VIN plate. Speaker covers in door are plastic grooved on SI, metal with small holes on SII, rectangular side indicators SI, oval indicators SII, plus...

    1997 VS ute info please

All VS Series I utes (1995-June 1996) don't have central locking (except Maloo) VS Series II S Pack utes all have central locking, but not sure about the standard ute. If theres only 1 button on the keypad then its to turn the light on only, and if its the original keypad then its probably...

RPM Needle Going Bazerk! Need Help.

Check the earth from the battery to the chassis (approx 5mm lead about 20cm long that bolts from the -ve terminal to just up in front of the radiator overflow). Mine came off as the battery wasn't properly clamped down and had the same sort of symptoms. good luck!

    what the??

I didnt think there were any badges/stickers on the bootlid of a VS S Pack. It didnt have the oval shape VT Commodore S badge on top of it did it? If so it sounds like the previous owner possibly put the formula sticker on originally, then covered it up with a VT badge. It would probably be just...

    Variatronic steering groaning noise

Hi, Just wondering if there is a fix for this common problem. Eg changing a suspension part, different fluid, new rack etc. Most VS Statesmans do it and also my VS Calais. Not really a big issue but would be nice to get rid of it. Fluid level is right and there are no power steering oil leaks.

Engine revs changing up/down when coasting over 80km/h

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like it happens to most people. Quite weird really. I'll check the leads anyway, they're only a year old but that doesnt mean anything. I guess it could be a fuel saving mechanism, makes sense.

Engine revs changing up/down when coasting over 80km/h

Just wondering if anyone has this same problem - It appears when the torque converter is locked up above 80km/h and you are coasting with no throttle at all the tacho is all over the show, jumps around between about 1300 and 1500rpm. Both my VP and VS calais do it - though the VS does it worse...

    Trouble starting VS V6

Try finding a person with a VS and swap the regular with them temporarily to see if its the problem. If so, beauty! you've found the fix, otherwise, bugger, problem still there, but at least you saved $70. Apparently theres two different types in the VS, although my June '96 series I regular was...

    VS Idler pulley jumping around

Thanks for the advice Fitzy. You gave me some advice a few weeks ago about the fuel system but I didnt get a chance to get back on here to say how I went. Holden wanted $70 for the fuel pressure regular so I swapped this and the IACV with my brother's VS which starts first time and that didnt...

    VS Idler pulley jumping around

Hi, the V6 in my VS idles quite good, but looking at the idler puller while its idling it seems to move more than it should. It has a 'random glitch' every few seconds and turns approx 3-5mm. Its as if one of the pulleys is stopping for a millisecond or the engine is misfiring maybe? The wierd...

Converting to gas on VS - info wanted

If its the current model then you will easily be able to get the wiring instructions from a re-seller. Mine was a sprintgas system. The computer has a model on it so I don't think it'd be too hard to get a photocopy from the kit supplier/reseller if required. Its not a big manual, should just be...

Converting to gas on VS - info wanted

The computer is separate and mounts under the dash. There's quite a lot of wiring involved, and if you get a second hand kit you'd hope it would come with a manual or be the current model to know where all the wires go. Wires that cut into the existing ECU are TPS, O2 sensors, Tacho etc. I...

    Shudder on Take off

The following cars I've had have shuddered exactly as you described: 1995 VS V6 S Pack Manual Ute - slight shudder 1997 VS V8 Statesman - slight shudder 1991 VP V6 Calais - quite noticable shudder 1996 VS V6 Calais - no shudder at all, not even slight When I bought the VS Calais I should...

Converting to gas on VS - info wanted

Gday, the LPG conversion on a VS V6 will slow it down a little bit (a lot more noticable than the V8). The do tend to run smooth but you have to keep your ignition system in top condition otherwise expect the odd backfire which will blow the air box to pieces. However you can fit a one way valve...

    VS Auto transmission misbehaving

Hi all, My VS Series I auto gearbox appears to take longer than it should to engage in reverse and drive. I know this usually means the gearbox is on its way out but just wondering if there may be any other solutions to this problem. When I bought the car the transmission was overfilled by...

    Ute- 3 seater conversion.

They made auto and manual variants of the 3 seater VG-VR-VS series I/II/III utes. All autos were column shift, and manuals were still floor shift with no console, and a small black shroud around the gear shifter. The S Pack was not available as a 3 seater. Also in all 3 seaters there is no...

    Urgent Problem

Pull one of the leads off the Battery while it is running. If the engine stalls, it means your alternator is not pumping out any volts and either the alternator is buggered, or one of the brushes is not making any contact at all. If it doesnt stall, but runs rough, then one of the brushes is...

    trip computer settings

Hold mode and tap set. I fitted a VS Calais dash to a mates VS manual ute. He's never reset it and I was in it the other day and it'd used 3000L total fuel, and average was about 10.8L/100km... not too bad overall economy. for over about 25000km.

    Rear seat removal ?

It takes a lot of force, try what you're doing but much harder. You might have to move the front seats forward to get one leg right in on each side. Push about a foot in from the door and right and the base above the carpet.

VN V8 Wont Crank over when Hot

try changing the ignition module which is the round chrome looking thing surrounded by the big metal heatsink. On the passenger side just in front of the airbox. Apparently when these go the car wont crank over. So it cranks, but doesnt fire, or doesnt crank at all? Even check the connection to...

VS IAC Valve & fuel pump noise

Just took out the IAC and set it to 27mm (should it be less than 28mm or exactly 28mm?) This is from the mounting face to the point on the end. Still seems the same. Fitzy I couldnt see a spring on it at all. Also when I took it out I could push the rod in, but couldnt pull it back out, so I...

VS IAC Valve & fuel pump noise

Hi, My VS Calais doesn't really start the best, and idling can be a bit lumpy at times. All plugs/leads etc are fine. However when I turn the ignition to on the IAC valve makes a noise - obviously going up and down. I've never heard it before on any VS. I've cleaned the IAC and throttle body...

    cruise control

Should be something simple, try winding your brake switch (the long one not the short one) in a few turns. You'll have to take off the drivers lower dash panel and black panel to get to it properly. Also disconnect the wiring while you wind it in. It sounds like it thinks your foot is on the...

    Agree with holden?

Try bending the two metal contacts on the outside of the ignition barrel out a bit. (3-4mm) Sounds like the theft deterrent circuit is not completing. If that doesnt work try your spare key if you have one. The 2 contacts on the ignition barrel bend in over time and dont make proper contact...

Passenger Airbag Plastic cover lifting. what to do??

Air bag unit doesnt even have to be touched. You can take precaution to pull the airbag fuse and also two yellow connectors under the drivers lower dash panel. Not really a safety issue at all if you follow these steps. Buy a workshop manual for $40 if you're not sure how to pull the dash apart...

Passenger Airbag Plastic cover lifting. what to do??

Gday mate, I also have a VS Series I Calais and changed this airbag cover last week as mine was lifting too. Glueing it isnt going to make it look any better as the plastic is actually damaged (unless you have a dash mat that hides it). There is no chance of the air bag going off if you pull...

    VR Engine Cuts Out

A mate of mine recently had that code with his VS, he changed the crank angle sensor with no luck, then changed the coil pack and it fixed it. But coil packs only die because of faulty HT leads or spark plugs, so change all 3 at once and that should keep you going for a long time, especially...

    VS Instrument Cluster Scratches

It works a treat and only takes about 15 minutes. Just dont...

    VS V6 Starting harshly

Thanks DSB, was the only symptom of your faulty harmonic balancer the bad start or did it run rough as well? I can't see any perished rubber around/behind it without pulling it off but I guess it could be cracked behind which wouldnt show until the rubber broke enough to fall apart. cheers Rhys

    Crusie Control Not Working

Also if its not the brake switch/fuses - the stalks tend to wear out over time - if the writing has worn off the stalk theres a good chance the switches inside are worn out and not making proper contact. VS V6 Starting harshly

Gday, My VS Series I Calais V6 starts with a bit of a jerk, but once it starts it runs fine without a problem. Could this possibly be an engine mount causing the problem. Also it need a few more turns of the starter to start when its warm. Has had quite a few things replaced on it, eg computer...

VS Calais revs drop at idling speed

Hello, My VS V6 Calais when in a carpark or putting from reverse into drive etc loses its revs and acts like its going to stall at lower speeds. It never does stall, but, loses revs and then comes good. Would this be a faulty throttle position sensor or possible a fuel related problem? no error...

is a toyota lexcen engine better than a vp

The front guards are slightly different too, as the lexcen's parking lights (in same place as VPs indicators) are a different shape - they're similar to the VR/VS Statesman so I'm not sure if you'll get it looking exactly the same but you could put orange globes in the existing parking light...
