    Just to close the loop on what we ended up doing. On the passenger side the header was removed to replace the cat but on the drivers side we were able to get to the four bolts (from above and below), however it was a little awkward. Thanks to all for the advice.

    Thanks guys. Was the from above approach with the stock manifolds or HSV headers? I just has a look and all but one bolt looks like it would blocked by header piping?

    It is the century of Asia, give it 30 years we will be driving affordable performance cars made in China.....I am not saying I like that idea but it will happen at some point. We laughed at Japanese cars in the 60s but look where they are now and China works faster....

    $27k difference between a Mustang GT and the converted Camaro. They have very similar specs as they compete against each other at the same price point in the USA. You would really have to be a Camaro fan to pay that price difference.

    I have the HSV 340 headers and cats fitted but when I had them side by side it looked like the VFII cats would work. I think internally the holden and HSV cats are the same? Both 400 cpi? I would be keen for some bolt on high flow cats in the stock position but they seem to start at about $800...

    What an awesome collection of cars for a day out driving. Did you get to drive theirs? I would be drooling at the thought to be able to drive all three on a nice road.

    Yeah that's the plan, preferably a supercharger but if not a cam that is designed for low/mid range. Can't continue having my wife's 2 litre (albeit tuned and much lighter) feeling like it has a stronger mid-range than my 6.2, that is just not right.....

    Nice! Our Golf R is quicker in every situation compared to my SSVR and even more so with an APR tune. However on a sunny day going for drive just for fun I will take the Commodore every time. Windows down, V8 burble, can't beat that.

    'Best' will always be subjective but if $s were not a concern I would take an AMG C63 or even the new E63. However, bang for your buck for a large sedan hard to go past the V8 Commodore.

    1900 vs 2300 I am not chasing peak power but low/mid torque and reliability would be nice. Any ideas on how they compare down low? I figure the 1900 puts less stress on the engine purely based on it is pushing less air? But the 2300 could produce the same power on less boost? Thoughts?

    Off topic, but was it a Lancer GSR with AWD and the 1.8L turbo 4G93T (I think?)? I bought a near new 93 model in the mid 90s. 3" turbo back exhuast and boost wound up to 20psi, which was too much. Was a fun car but there was not much performance support for it at that time.

    Totally agree with those two comments but I consider myself a performance car guy rather than specifically a Commodore or V8 guy. On the flip side we are on a Commodore forum so it is natural and totally reasonable for those more focussed on particular cars to show their passion.

    I drove a Chrysler 300 SRT8 for a week not long before getting my VFII SSVR and the stock 6.4 in that feels like it has so much more low and midrange torque than the Commodore and it weighs about 200kg more. Everything else about the SSVR is better but I would take that engine for sure.

    I agree. I bounce between owning turbo 4s and V8s. As a general rule it is easier and cheaper to get a significant power increase from a factory turbo performace car then a NA V8. I am talking about the initial 30-50% increase from stock. XR6 turbo is a good example.
