Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

No change at this point. Without going to the cars to check, last time I looked, the Model 3 was sitting at around 130 Wh/km and the Model Y around 140 Wh/km. The biggest impact to this is the speed you're driving - at 100km/h the consumption will be higher than at 60km/h (for example).

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Hey All, Nothing too much to share - both cars still going well. Model 3 now at 8482km. Lifetime charging cost now: $216.61. Equivalent cost in the ZB @ 12L/100km and $2/L = $2035 - so $1819 in fuel savings in ~9 months. Model Y now at 4295km. Lifetime charging cost now: $11.94. Equivalent...

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Thanks for letting me create this thread. I'll look at posting an update on costs/experience in early Feb which will be ~9 months with the Model 3; and ~6 months with the Model Y..

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

That's not quite why Victoria lost the case. The issue is that it was deemed to be an excise, which can only be levied by the Commonwealth (see https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-10-19/owners-taxed-electric-vehicle-levy-730/102994460). It is inevitable that in the future, a FEDERAL road user tax...

    Activate Traffic Sign Recognition

I did ping the guys at https://intellilinkmods.co.uk/astrak-trafficsignrecognition to see if they could activating the feature on the ZB, and they reckoned they could try, but I never got around to following this up before I sold the ZB.

    Activate Traffic Sign Recognition

The functionality is there in other markets. My recollection is that there is something "different" about Australian speed signs, and the camera resolution(?) in the ZB wasn't good enough to be able to accurately detect them - hence it wasn't enabled.

    Selling ZB Calais V

Agree, selling privately is likely to get the most $$$, but as a data point - when I recently sold my Astra RSV: - Tesla trade-in - $17500 - Carsales instant offer - $18,700 - ex-Holden dealer - $20,000 I couldn't be bothered trying to sell privately, so I took the $20k :)

Also, ask any local ex-Holden dealers if they're interested in buying it.

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

    That's quite 'thirsty'.Our Model 3 is getting 136 Wh/km (13.6kWh/100) and the Model Y is getting 139 Wh/km (13.9kWh//100km)

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Update on this - the electricity costs are actually *less* than this. There is some kind of Teslascope issue affecting my Model 3. If I download the individual charge sessions, and sum the totals, the actual $ total is $214.85, with 1174kWh added, and the odo now at 6714km. So average...

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

I use https://teslascope.com/ - it allows you to setup your electricity costs by location (including ToU tarriffs). Due to my wholesale plan, I end up overriding the calculated costs with the actual costs using the Amber app. One limitation of Teslascope, is that it can't handle a negative...

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Quick update after 6 months of ownership on the Model 3, and 3 months on the Model Y. Still love both cars. The Model 3 is making it's 1st trip to the service centre today - since new, it's occasionally thrown a 'Cruise Control not available' error - may once every two weeks. I was...

    Body Tag Decoder

Body/Option plate is what we used to call it. RPO codes afair were mostly generic GM ones, post the actual plate, and highlight the ones you want to understand - I may even remember some of them :P

Thanks! I've also switched my home power to Amber Electric, which provides wholesale access to power prices. This afternoon, power prices went *negative* in Adelaide - clear sunny day, with plenty of wind. I got *paid* an average of 12 cents/kWhr for power this afternoon - essentially I got...

Forgot to mention it, but I sold the Astra to the old 'City Holden' here in Adelaide a week and a half ago - down to one car until I pickup the Model Y on Thursday!

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Tesla cars don't do bidirectional charging - but we have a Powerwall2 here - so that should get us through the nasty spikes. Windy and sunny earlier this afternoon - I could have been getting paid $0.02/kWh to charge my car if my churn had gone through already. I'll soon have 2x EV's + the PW2...

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Submitted a change today to switch our power to Amber - get access to wholesale rates. At certain times, they'll PAY me to charge my car to soak up excess power in the grid :P
  25. Paul Smedley

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

We're on an AGL EV plan - it's Time of Use - the rate above is the offpeak (ie 1am - 6am) rate - peak is 0.54!

There is no 'haggling' on price - but there is a $750 referral credit available (if anyone is looking to purchase, feel free to DM me for my code), and if you keep an eye on inventory - they will sometimes discount stock if they want to move it quicker.

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

    Got some consumptions stats from the car today. We're averaging 140 Wh/km. With charging overnight at $0.37/kWh this is: 140/1000 (convert Wh to kWh) x 1.1 (allow for charging losses) x $0.37/kWh = 5.7c/km ZB at 12.2 L/100km @ $1.80/L = 12.2/100 (convert to L/km) x $1.8 = $0.2196/km

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

So has ours, but EV is still way cheaper than our ZB... The Tesla app is reporting we've charged 529 kWh @ $178 cost (would be less than this as we've used some solar too), and reports the Petrol equivalent to be $362 based on average fuel prices in Adelaide since we've had the car. We've...

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

We already have a Tesla Powerwall in the garage - so what's a couple of EV's :) Of course, there's no chance of an ICE car spontaneously combusting is there? Thinking of the Kia/Hyundai ABS module fires...

Got a source for that? sounds like FUD to me. This article (from around a month ago) - https://www.torquenews.com/8113/electric-vs-gasoline-unveiling-cost-comparison-evs-energy-consumption certainly disagrees.

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

Good question - I'm still debating how I'll fund the Model Y - a 2nd Novated Lease or just use home loan redraw. If the latter - I'll likely get a tradein price from Tesla - and a Carsales Instant offer and take the higher of the two. I really like the RSV - it's only done about 23k km. I was...

Transitioning from a Commodore to an EV

I haven't posted for a little while, but the Model 3 has been awesome. Brought it down to the holiday house for the first time this weekend - only a 50km drive from home - but was fantastic on the Southern Expressway. Also nice to test our charging setup down here. Also nice to visit a winery...
