If you want more protection you can put motorbike filter oil on as well to sticky it up and catch everything.

Depends on how much the shock has lost mainly, does the car still ride right? if you bounce it up and down heavily does it stop bouncing and settle quickly? Would keep it in mind to be done next time you service it.
