    Brake upgrade, vacuum pump wiring

Yes. So there's two sources of vacuum. Sorry for the extremely late reply

Ignition 12V -> Vacuum switch red Vacuum switch brown -> to control relay brown Fused 12V -> control relay red Body ground -> control relay black You use the pump switch as exactly that, a switch to send 12V to the control relay. If you're using a regular relay to control the pump, terminal 86...

    Vk headlights

They are just self tapping screws into the radiator support panel. The screw goes through the tab on top of the headlights. A couple of mine were stripped so I drilled them out and put an M5 nut insert in them.

    Cold air induction experiment

So when I read Ginger Beers comments I thought nah dude, there’s a pinch weld already around the bonnet hole, what’s that gunna do? Upon further investigation, pinch weld refers to more than one product. Der! Anyway, after the new learning I bought a profile from Bunnings and chopped the top off...

    Cold air induction experiment

My 308 VK has a cowl hood and a whopping hole in the bonnet courtesy of the previous owner. I figured I'd experiment and see if I could make a cold air induction system and utilise what I have. 1. Started with a bucket that's close to what I want. 2. Fibreglass (messily) 3. Modify the fibreglass...

    Brake upgrade, vacuum pump wiring

I'm not sure whether making additional brackets and figuring out how to drive it would be worth the time...plus the additional parasitic drag of another crank driven device.

Switch on the brake booster (2nd photo, orange plug into it) It has two connections going to engine and pump.

    Brake upgrade, vacuum pump wiring

Gidday all, I just finished off my brake upgrade on my VK. Most of the usual parts, hub adaptors, VX calipers and master cylinder, VS booster. And I also added in a vacuum pump as cam doesn't give me a lot of vacuum. Cruze pump, control relay and switch, all factory pieces. Works very well...

[VT-VX] Blinkers won't flash - how to fix flasher relay

Well....the problem reappeared, but not as bad as before. So I decided to pull the cover and watch what was happening. The contacts were sticking, and when looking closer at them I noticed a fair chunk of metal on the brass contact. I think this was hooking itself on to the other side of the...

[VT-VX] Blinkers won't flash - how to fix flasher relay

VT-VY - Blinkers won't flash at all, blinkers slowly flash and over time stop completely? Don't replace the flasher relay when you can replace one part and give it new life. What you need : Soldering iron, solder sucker (but you can just flick the solder off if you don't have it) flat...

    blinkers stay solid

I think after so many cycles that the cap just dies over time, losing it's ability to hold charge. At least that's what my limited electronics tells me.

    blinkers stay solid

My wifes VX had the same problem and I fixed it this morning. I assume it's the same for VT etc. What you need. - Soldering iron, flat screwdrivers, 10uF capacitor. I got one from Jaycar, RE6075, 63V 10uF. $0.30 Pull the flasher relay from under the dash. Pry open the flasher can with...

Stupid car - seat reclined and stuck there!!!PLS Help

Update on this. Well, it works as it should. I got the map pocket off (and broke the two clips holding it on of course - $10 for new ones from Holden) unplugged the motor, fiddled with the wiring, extended the seat to full forward and as high as it goes, reclined the seat all the way down again...

Stupid car - seat reclined and stuck there!!!PLS Help

I have a VY II Calais, and I decided to recline the electric seat all the way back to have a snooze. Now....I can't get it to return upright again. The seat moves for about 5 seconds then stops in the same spot, like it's hit a limit switch or something (the wheel thingy under the plastic cover...

Getting door open when lock is stuffed

I did manage to get it open. Tried pulling up the lock as you mentioned, wouldn't budge any further than half way and wouldn't unlock. Red tab wasn't exposed. Anyway, I tried to use the key to unlock it, wouldn't budge at first (as I didn't want to snap the key off or break something else) I...

Getting door open when lock is stuffed

Hi, have an issue with Drivers front door on a VXII wagon, door button does not fully go up when remote is pressed and I can't open the door from the inside or outside. At the moment I'm climbing in from the passenger side. Any thoughts on how I can get into the door to fix? Or how to open the...

Power steering pump compatibility VN V8/VN V6

Ok....so my power steering pump is leaking (shock horror!) Anyway, I bought a seal kit and I have pulled the pump apart only to find that the pressure plate inside has cracked in half (great :( ) The local pick a part has plenty of V6's in stock (with pumps I hope) so I am wondering will a V6...

VX SS Clutch poped and dropped

Mechanic was doing some work on a VX SS when I had my car in. He said that when replacing the clutch in an LS1 car, the flywheel needs to be replaced as they can't be machined. So the bill would finish up around the $1500 mark (flywheel was half that cost apparently.)

    Exhaust and Earth questions

VN V8 exhaust question. Does anyone sell engine pipes/y pipe to replace the crappy stock pipes between the stock extractors and the cat converter? The bends are dreadful pressed ones and I reckon you could unlock a few hp with something mandrel bent. Or is getting them made by an exhaust...

    V8 dizzy, I can't turn it

    V8 dizzy, I can't turn it

Hey there, I'm gunna burn this friggin POS car in a minute. I'm trying to adjust the timing of my V8 VN and I can't get the dizzy to rotate. I've undone the retaining bolt (why holden made it so bloody hard to get to I'll never know) but the dizzy is stuck fast. I've tried all I can think...

Radio removal in my VN - can't figure

Original radio has a security screw in the underside of it, to make it hard to steal. Absolute pain in the a** to remove. Be really patient. Or wobble the unit a lot to break the tab it's screwed into.

Dumb things you've done working on a car?

Undid a rear shock absorber nut on the underside of a HQ I had. I was lying under the car at the time and as the nut finally let go, the diff dropped and smacked my forehead. Lucky the wheel was still on or my head would have been flattened.

Lang Lang Proving Ground Passes 50 Year Milestone

Knowing why they have to do it doesn't make it any easier to deal with  Brother mentioned something about having to mount an accelerometer onto an engine. Hmm...theres a nice flat spot, I'll just angle grind the top of that 6.0 inlet manifold and whack some screws into it. Doesn't matter...

Lang Lang Proving Ground Passes 50 Year Milestone

My brother works there at Lang Lang and they had a family day there yesterday. Was fantastic to have a chance to go in and have a snoop around. They staged an accident in front of the crash shed, Statesman got to T-bone a VE SS at 40km/hr. Cool. Was nearly in tears though when you see how...

Slow Cranking, hard to start hot.

Damo was closest. Replaced the battery with a 550CCA jobbie and cleaned battery terminals. Got under and undid the main cable from the starter and cleaned it and terminal on the starter. Now there's a fun job!! Also the black cover on the solenoid was loose, I'm sure that couldn't have been...

    Need to ask a builder.

You should pay about $40 a metre (had mine done 12 months ago for $35). And don't do it yourself, it's a plick of a job. And pull the old one down yourself if it is still there as they will want to charge another $10 per metre. Top firewood.

Slow Cranking, hard to start hot.

Yeah, cold starts are ok, takes a little while to fire but always does. I don't think it's the remote battery cos even if you leave the keys in and on accessories (so the imobiliser won't come on) it still does it.

Slow Cranking, hard to start hot.

I have a VN V8 that's a bitch to start when hot. Slow to crank over but it eventually fires most of the time. Wondering if just replacing the battery is going to fix it or if I should be looking for something else (Battery is a few years old) Never touched the starter in the whole time I've had...
