    VN Calais window not working

Lube the Bailey channels with silicon spray or grease and keep lubing them and it should work okay if their going down. If stuuck you can with palm of your hand press up or down on window while depressing switch to get it going. Work all windows at least once a week.

Need help with low mounting AC bracket for 304 VN motor

During the mild resto 10 years ago I purchased an AC belt from Holden.......and it's actually a toothed belt to prevent issues discussed. Trouble is its so tight I couldn't get it on regardless of persuasion.....evenwith idler off.......I didn't want to unbolt compressor. So it's now in the...

Need help with low mounting AC bracket for 304 VN motor

Kudos for your rebuild. Thinking with the popularity of our cars it won't be long before someone fabricates an evaporator. The heavy AC pipes can be rebuilt. They rebuild the metal fitting on new hose......had mine replaced along with condenser and compressor. Weakness with our cars is they...

    Sandst4rm's VP Ute Resto Thread

When replacing speedo cog use gear that is 1 piece (unlike 2 piece that fits one on top of the other and lasts about 15k). Had a quick look on ebay, couldn't find them today but they are there somewhere, from memory black in colour, otherwise try an instrument place. The 2 piece cogs become...

VQ statesman with VP 5L problems

Did you try to get codes as described by @Having A Break ? If you did and got no response reseat ECU connector and connections from ECU to module. Sometimes with these cars when good connections are disturbed a poor one may ensure so they need cleaning and reseating. You should get error...

    another fuel pump question

Didn't think of that. Like I said previously it ran okay just with internal pump. I suppose then if it failed if one wanted to keep a stock feel I wonder what the correct external pump would be? Remember looking once before and only seeing genuine internal ones .

    another fuel pump question

That's interesting given I suppose with the longer wheelbase fuel has longer to travel in the Statesman. I suppose then the 2 pumps and larger regulator was for the supposedly sporty SS even though advertisied KW was the same. Maybe they suppose SS drivers are more leadfooted.

    another fuel pump question

So @MikeC I take it you replaced your 2 pump set up in your Statesman with a single pump. Any difference starting or otherwise?

    another fuel pump question

Certainly long ownership.....feel like, it's part of the family lol. Truth is I had access to company vehicles alot of the time so it just sat.....maybe I'd take it out every couple of weeks, always registered. Always ran well with its many minor quirks and only briefly left me stranded twice...

    another fuel pump question

Interesting, so if they fail go with a single in tank one. As I've mentioned elsewhere I've owned the car since 1994 and at the time the sales myth was that they ran 2 pumps so 1 primed for perfect starting :D. I kmow now reading the schematics they are both wired to prime simultaneously but...

    another fuel pump question

As a matter of interest what would people recommend for a replacement for the outside of tank pump for a stock style 2 pump set up if one wants to keep 2 pump set up as per factory?

Steering wheel identification has 9 - 90 on the back stamped into it , is that 9 out of 90?

That's the date stamp. Maybe horn button has been swapped and steering wheel is from a non GMH car.

VQ statesman with VP 5L problems

If you are sure you are getting a no spark condition and the coil isn't getting power I would troubleshoot all wiring off coil following schematics. If you try an ECU careful with non reconditioned items as they may also be faulty....happened to me.

Cabin fan not working on 4

    Car stalled on coasting

I'm now thinking as I done with module that all joints need to be be reflowed/ soldered once problems arise on a PCB. Was initially apprehensive about reflowing IC joints but saw the halo's so done so......with time gaps between each terminal alternating between ICs to avoid heat damage and...

    Car stalled on coasting

Good point. Certainly, when I started in the technical industry late 80s it was talked about....but everyone was using leaded solder, so I don't have definite proof but I would say the VN had leaded solder PCBs.. Note that later model cars used more dampers like our cruise control units and...

    Car stalled on coasting

Certainly am. One wonders what these newer cars and electric vehicles will be like in the future.......probably unfixable. Now I have to get around to the cruise control unit.:( Mild winter in Sydney and obviously dry joints didn't play up much. Maybe 2 or 3 times and I ironically saw cruise...

    Car stalled on coasting

That's why I reconditioned this one, and passed on info. Some of the knock off's are poor but at least they exist. Remember late 80s ,90s it was hard to get parts for older cars and non genuine items were woeful. Was considering a nuclear powered module reconditioned unit from ebay, seems...

Update; Solved. Was the module , and more specifically dry joints on module PCB. Took it of car and access to PCB is by simply lifting plate off rear.. At this point the way I repaired it is. 1) Unsolder terminals off transistor in cut out on PCB x 3, and unsolder 2 x terminals off...

    89 VN s1 V6 hard to start - SOLVED

    Car stalled on coasting

    Car stalled on coasting

    Car stalled on coasting
