    red 202 balancer wobble

You need to read the entire Convo. Nothing wrong with the balancer but the stripped threads, I literally just did the timing and set it to 8 degrees, checked for tdc and was perfect, the only problem is the bolts have no thread to tighten the power steering pully so it wobbles. I have already...

    red 202 balancer wobble

Mate that's $300+ haha, I just got the cheapest one I can find, $129 from power something I forgot the name of it. Im not gonna spend $300 on a balancer, I'm going to be putting a 304 or 308 if I can find a cheap one when I get my full licence, and I'll throw the 202 in a buggy or a cheap frame...

    red 202 balancer wobble

Why would you compare a design that came way before the 1950s to a modern 3.5l v6 engine? Its like comparing a ford flathead v8 to a LS engine. And yes I'm talking about the red 202, it revs it's ass off without any issues, its also been proven again and again that whether its a 179, 186 or 202...

    red 202 balancer wobble

The standard bolts are m10 x 1.5 x 20mm, I'm just gonna thread them to m12 x 1.5 so far autobarn only has 35mm instead of 20mm, I don't know what repco has because they don't bloody put anything on there website.

    red 202 balancer wobble

Its an auto, no rev gauge, but it sure does rev high and quick, its in good condition so my guess is it was replaced but when installing the power steering pully they stripped the bolts.

    red 202 balancer wobble

Heck would I know, its been rebuilt that's for sure, as for boring, porting, valves ect I don't know.

    red 202 balancer wobble

Only three on mine haha, it turns out that I do indeed need new bolts and a new balancer, I'll ask around if there are any for cheap, or else I'll tap then all, what size bolt do you think is good? Supercheap have some don't they?
  8. D

    red 202 balancer wobble

If got all the drill bits and taps you can think of, but I would need larger bolts? Wouldn't this throw off the balancer?
  9. D

    red 202 balancer wobble

The pully was the one wobbling, I'm sure the balancer was okay
  10. D

    red 202 balancer wobble

My red 202s balancer wobbles and when I went to tighten the bolts 2 were loose and the other tight, the 2 that were loose have no bite what so ever so guessing there is no threads, if I need to get new bolts then which ones? But if I need a balancer what do I get, I have power steering also so...

Contact Sidchrome and look at there website under warranty
  12. D

    ballast resistor

They are lifetime warrented, just hop into your local Sidchrome and give them the broken stuff, just a warning they won't all be made in Australia anymore most of it is made in Taiwan. But yea you can get them replaced still.
  13. D

    ballast resistor

Hahahaha, today jack all, only punches, prybars, drill bits, they have just stopped making screwdriver's under crescent, but they still make all there pliers ect here, I doubt they make spanners and stuff anymore, but besides the Aussie made finkal, crescent and mummy tools all old Sidchrome is...

    ballast resistor

I can't get enough of them, first one was when I was 16, got a 72 HQ sedan for $2500 put around $5000 on top and sold it for $14,800, 17 now and bought this 72 HQ ute for $5500 and spent the majority on Aussie tools haha.
  15. D

    ballast resistor

No its just a yellow wire at the coil like normal?
  16. D

    ballast resistor

Haha yea 72 HQ, I have decided to drop the steering column and replace the pink wire with some 12ga wire I have remaining. Will try it tomorrow see he we go.
  17. D

    ballast resistor

You have confused me now, yes its a 82 HQ, so what Di I need to do?
  18. D

    ballast resistor

Yea when running, only got 7-9 volts actually was 6-8
  19. D

    ballast resistor

Also what do you mean cut out the resistor wire, that's the oink one right? And isn't that connected to the ignition switch? How will I replace the whole thing?
  20. D

    ballast resistor

The think is the dizzy was still only getting 7-9v, I did 85 to ground, 86 old coil wire(yellow), 30 battery and 87 to the coil.
  21. D

    not getting 12v to coil

I installed a electric distributor and as the HQ has a resistor wire I used a relay to send 12v but it still only send 7-9v, some say I can just put a pice of wire from the pink to the yellow at the ignition switch?
  22. D

    ballast resistor

I didn't work well, for some reason it only sends 7-9 volts, is there a way to do it without a relay, also with the relay the engine always stayed on and had to turn it off by the switch.

    Nulon 20W50 for red 202

I have a 72 holden HQ that I put nulon 20W50 high kilometore oil in, how much zinc does this have? I'm worried that it might not have enough zinc and then damage the flat taps ect. I use penrite hpr30 on other 202s, but saw this nulon for sale under $30. I also just now saw they have a 25W60...

    ballast resistor

It's okay I finally found them at super cheap, is this okay? And instead of a relay connector ill just attach the wires to the pins? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Tridon-Mini-Relay-30-Amp-4-Pin/293180
  25. D

    ballast resistor

But for the wire, where do I get it. I looked at super cheap, repco and autobarn but they only have thin speaker wire or thick battery wires(200amp), maybe I looked at the wrong stuff, if they sell the correct wire can you give me a link to it also should I step it up to 10ga or 12ga is plenty
  26. D

    ballast resistor

Actually did more research seems easy, but there are so many types of relays to choose, do I get a 12dc 40amp? And use 12ga wire for the battery and ground
  27. D

    ballast resistor

That looks complicated, carny I just replace the resistor wire with a normal one?
  28. D

    ballast resistor

And when installing a electric distributor do I need to get rid of that wire

    How do I rotate a red 202

Almost every stock balancer is a two peice item, and over time they shift making the tdc mark on the balancer not match up with the block. I don't think I ever had red Sox before, maybe some red but not all red :). There a good engine, stronger, low end torque and very decent on fuel. But I...

    ballast resistor

Do 1972 holden HQs have ballast resistors in them, I want to install a DSM distributor and electric dizzies don't like resistors. Also, do early commodores have ballast resistors? As they were mostly electric ignition engine
  31. D

    How do I rotate a red 202

Also, does a 1972 holden HQ have a ballast resistor in it, as I want to install a electric distributor, and do early commodores have ballast resistors I got the engine to turn and still can't believe the balancer lined up perfectly with the 0° mark, it must of been recently rebuild that's why...

    How do I rotate a red 202

O I got it to turn, and the two not four sorry, were loose,I tightened them and that solves the wobbling in the balancer, also surprisingly the white mark is spot on tdc \oo/ I doubt its been rebuilt right as I bought the car, bit it could be, that's why it was so bloody tight. Anyway thank...

    How do I rotate a red 202

Yeq I'll try with sparks out, anyway I'll figure something, you think it's bad to use a wrench on the off center bolts?
  34. D

    How do I rotate a red 202

I tried by the fan, but still won't turn, the thing is as tight as a virgin. Stock 202s that have at least 100,000kms should be effort less for sure.
  35. D

    How do I rotate a red 202

I have a red 202 that I want to do ignition timing done, but the harmonic balancer has no center bolt? It does have 4 off center bolts, but is it safe to stick a wrench on them to turn the engine over to find tdc? Is there something I'm missing, I've never heard of a balancer without a center...
