    Wheel Alignment

Sorry for the late reply, I got mine setup by Garage76 in Phillip. They were very expensive and I wasn't all that happy with the job. How have you been going with the MCA, I'm thinking about getting some for my ute. Are they any good?

VY DLR Head lights, any good, please give any feedback

I bought a set of these for my Maloo, beam brightness and spread was pretty good. They are easy to fit as they directly plug into the factory plugs but you need to remove the bumper to access the two bolts at the front of the light.

    X-Force Exhaust or Di Filippo

I have an X-Force 3 inch on my VY Maloo. I bought it because it was pretty cheap and not many places make the duel system for Maloo (it exits on both sides at the back where as previous versions just exited on the passenger side). I'm not that fond of it, if I bought again I would definitely...

vy cabin fuel smells whilst parked

Sorry to bring such an old thread back to life, but I have this problem. Can I just route the fuel vent outside the cabin? Are there any other options?

    Oil Smell Inside Car

I've got an oil smell inside my ute, it's definitely oil, not exhaust. I've replaced the rubber gear shift boot, any idea where else it is getting in?

    VY aircon actuators

This is a common problem, it's pretty easy to fix. You can remove the drivers side centre console panel under the dash, the actuator is inside. You undo a single phillips head screw and the actuator lifts out and you can remove the rod that moves the vent. I think there's a youtube video on...

How come my VZ SS doesn't say LSD on the diff?

Every SS I've ever seen has had an LSD but the build plate should tell the full story, post a photo of it or reply with the codes...

What is this plugged into my car?

Maybe the adjuster for an electric brake controller?

    Alloy Wheels - 19s or 20s?

My tyres are wearing pretty evenly front to back at the moment. Was the problem camber wear or just general tyre wear?

    Alloy Wheels - 19s or 20s?

I'm looking at buying a set of alloy wheels, I've been told to go for 20s because they are more common than 19s so tyres are cheaper, is this true? I have also looked at staggered, is it worth the $200 extra?

    Handbrake Turns

I released the handbrake adjustment at the lever then adjusted the handbrake drums the re-adjusted the handbrake lever. Now the handbrake doesn't engage with as much a bang. It is still there, but it is much, much better. Check out the video here:

    Handbrake Turns

Apparently in ACT you are not allowed to modify the existing brake circuits so the hydraulic handbrake has to actuate its own caliper on the rear disks. I'll try the adjustment and see if that works, if not I guess I'll just keep using the factory handbrake until I break something. Once I know...

    Handbrake Turns

The car is road registered, the only way to legally fit a hydraulic handbrake in the ACT is to fit a completely isolated system with a separate caliper on the rear brake disk. I have seen kits for other cars but not for a commodore.

    Handbrake Turns

I have adjusted the lever as much as I can, I'm going to adjust the drums on the weekend and see if that improves it
  15. J

    Handbrake Turns

Yes, it's a drum brake in the middle of the rear disk, it has a single brake shoe instead of having two shoes. The bang definitely doesn't Yep, I understand that. The problem is that I need to use it one way or the other. If I was worried about mechanical failures I wouldn't be into...

    Handbrake Turns

I've got a VY ute that I've started using in motorkhanas and sometimes you really have no option but to use the handbrake to get around the very tight turns. However, when I do a handbrake turn the wheels lock up well but I get a loud bang that reverberates through the car. Any idea what is...

    What is this plug?

    OK, thanks for the info
  18. J

    What is this plug?

It was just hanging down, is it supposed to go into a hole somewhere?
  19. J

    What is this plug?

This plug was hanging down behind the bumper, slightly to the drivers side. Does anyone know what it is?

    Replacement panel

When I bought my car it had a dented driver side front guard, I was going to buy a good panel, buy the rattle can primer, prepsol, colour matched paint and give it a go. However, I found TorqParts on eBay, they did a brand new panel painted and colour matched to the paint code for $249. On top...

    Rear Brake Lines

Yeah, my car has the small HSV C5 brake kit. The front brakes calipers are exactly the same as normal commodore V6/V8 brakes but they have an extra bracket to space the caliper out further to fit the larger rotors. The rear calipers are quite different and the last part of the brake line is...

    Rear Brake Lines

I didn't see that before, I wonder where that other line goes? My car definitely does not have traction control and it definitely does not have that extra block either.
  23. J

    Rear Brake Lines

It's actually got a wagon subframe installed, but the brake lines definitely don't have the block on them. I'm curious to know what the block is for.
  24. J

    Rear Brake Lines

Also - yes, it's a VY Maloo but the question should apply to any VT-VZ commodore not equipped with traction control
  25. J

    Rear Brake Lines

Not ABS, traction control. Not sure what happened with the image, didn't upload. According to the brake line vendor, my Maloo should have the block on the brake line (circled in red). My Maloo doesn't have traction control, but it doesn't have the block on the brake line either. Any idea...

    Rear Brake Lines

I'm replacing the brake lines on my Maloo with braided lines but the brake lines are different on cars with traction control vs those without. It appears that my car doesn't have traction control but it's hard to be certain because the car has had a cam added and been retuned and the centre...

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

It's a pretty complex job to remove it, easier to change the length of the connector so that the arm sits at the correct height in relation to the suspension ride height. I'm not a big fan of lowered ride height so I have set the coil overs for standard ride height, no adjustment required.
  28. J

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

OK, so I've finished the subframe swap, it really was no problem and I can categorically say that wagon subframes will fit into a ute no problem. I also imagine that a ute subframe will go into a wagon, just a couple of things to note: * V6 rear subframes only have one exhaust hanger instead...

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

Yeah, I noticed that. I've got coilovers with 9kg rear springs so suspension travel definitely won't be a problem

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

Yep, that is what I have done. I got a rear subframe from a VZ wagon with toe control arms and I'm putting it in this weekend. The adjustable toe/camber bushes aren't enough by themselves. I put them in my S1 VX SS and they improved the tyre wear and allowed me to make alignment adjustment...

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

As far as I can tell, this whole 'utes have a light rear end' is complete cr@p. Utes are identical to sedans from the A pillar forward, so any difference in weight must be due to the middle or rear or the car. However, a VY Maloo ute (kerb weight 1646kg) is heavier than a VY SS sedan (kerb...
  32. J

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

Yep, I can definitely confirm that shock mounts on ute/wagon are different from sedan so you can't put a ute or wagon subframe in a sedan. However, I haven't found anyone that can confirm that ute and wagon subframes are interchangeable. The reason I want to put a wagon subframe in the ute is...

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

I got no feedback on this so I will try it on the weekend and post back here based on results
  34. J

Sedan Rear Subframe in a Ute?

I've got a Maloo with stuffed rear subframe, I really would like to fit the toe control rear subframe from a sedan, will it fit? Has anyone tried it?

Traction Control and ABS Warning Lights

The car had different size front and rear wheels fitted, when I changed the wheels the lights went away :)

    Clutch Push Rod Problem

Just for future reference, CommSpares makes a ruggedised replacement component that they say will never break. You can buy it by itself (no need to buy the whole clutch master cylinder) cost is $40
  37. J

    Clutch Push Rod Problem

This has broken (see picture) and it seems like I to buy a whole new clutch master cylinder, is this correct? The push rod broke immediately after I adjusted the pedal height, did this cause the problem or do they just break randomly?
  38. J

Traction Control and ABS Warning Lights

I changed the rear subframe in the my VX SS and it now has the traction control and ABS warning lights lit. Traction control also intervenes when I try to drive. I presume this is due to the sensors mounted on the diff? Everything looks OK, do I clean the sensors and plugs? Anything else I...

Gearbox oil in bell housing - why is it so?

That is listed in the manual as a dust cover. The problem is, there doesn't seem to be anything that seals the floor of the car. Isn't there something that bolts in?
