    Paint stripper for engine covers?

    There's always this option, too.

    Paint stripper for engine covers?

Have you tried just a Kaarcher? Hit it with the water jet - if there's a bunch of coats, it should come off pretty easily. Failing that, caustic soda doesn't affect plastic. If you want to try something milder - go oven cleaner. If you can't find caustic soda, use draino.

    VT dashboard fascia. Removal.

I wonder if I could have both V9 and the latest one installed and just manually select V9 to open the file? Off to find a copy of Adobe v9... EDIT: Yes, you can have both installed. You just right click like it says. Just tried it out and you are god, @Lex - it's working beautifully now!

    Similarities between VT etc

Some things are obvious, like VT and VX tail lights look nothing alike, but they'll both fit either model. Headlights are only interchangeable if you change everything around them too. Some seats have side airbags built in, some don't and while the seats will happily install in either model...

light in hazard flasher dashboard switch unit.

Yes, I attempted to change the globe in a hazard flasher switch once. It was like walking through a tunnel blindfolded while juggling pineapples... There were moments of triumph and despair, with a dash of unexpected discoveries thrown in for good measure. If attempted, it's a journey that will...

    VT dashboard fascia. Removal.

We could always have an expert level championship that involves unplugging as well. A special challenge could involve reinstalling a cluster that has been removed and unplugged, but has come from a car previously owned by a 23 year old bloke with a bunch of aftermarket add-on sh1t like a display...

    VT dashboard fascia. Removal.

You're right, some of the screw locations are difficult, potentially impossible to get a drill into, but you're also possibly not using a long enough screwdriver bit, and they do make various attachment doovahickeys for accessing awkwardly located screws. This is one I've been considering...

    VT dashboard fascia. Removal.

I'm picturing a whole thing now, like the Annual Cluster Removal Championship. There's two divisions, the cordless drill division and the manual screwdriver division. All entries must be filmed for verification. There's an online table of entries and their recorded times and a perpetual...

Is that your best time, or the recognised Guiness World record time, or just the average time recorded by you and your mate Des when you were bored and knocking back beers one Saturday?

Yeah, I tried both, but people were using the right spelling.

Yeah, I'd probably recommend you ensure you have all the issues ironed out before you hit up your local shopping centre.

He said "dashboard fascia", so I presumed he meant the fascia - as in, the whole front of the dash.

Flat Car Battery And Key Battery

Can you do that yourself? I always thought you needed a Tech II or something to be able to program a blank key to your car? You can get a thing on ebay for about $80 that you plug in to that port under your steering wheel that programs 3 keys for you. I tried asking the seller what happens to it...

Flat Car Battery And Key Battery

My son swears up and down that if you touch the keyfob to your head when you press the button that it works better. But like Lex says, a good battery may be what the car needs to communicate with the keyfob. It takes a long time for the keyfob batteries to die, and it'd be the most bizarre...

Thanks to your suggestions, I've now had minor success with "Door mould trim" and "body mould strip". Thanks for your input!

    VT dashboard fascia. Removal.

My copy of this is a bit dicky. I've tried re-downloading it, but it just won't let me navigate properly. I find the best way to find what I'm looking for is to do a search of all the files in the folder: (In Adobe) Select Menu at the top left of screen> Search> Advanced Search> All PDF...

What are the plastic strips across the outside of the doors called?

On a VX, about half way down on the outside of the doors, there's strips that are about 5cm or so wide that run across the width of the doors and finish on the front quarter panel. I think they're meant to help protect your doors from hitting stuff like other doors. They don't. On Execs they're...

    Hot fibreglass cover smell

It could take a few weeks to lose the VOC smell. The fastest way to get rid of it is to keep the cover exposed to heat but low humidity and allow it to ventilate as much as possible. So when you get home, park in the sun and lift the bonnet.

Really confused by the vastly different prices of used cylinder heads...

That's what I always say to my husband when he says "such-and-such is $200 on ebay" - just because they're asking $200 doesn't mean they're getting that. A friend loaned us his VX years ago when I didn't have a car and he'd lost his licence for 6 months. Naturally, the engine died while I was...

Really confused by the vastly different prices of used cylinder heads...

I've been looking online at used cylinder heads for a VX. I have seen prices from under $70 each to $290 each, for what seems to be the same part. Not new, not reco'd, just straight off the engine, no associated parts, V6 Ecotec. $350 / pair $290 / each $65 / pair What am I missing here...

    VT dashboard fascia. Removal.

A step-by-step guide would be lengthy and overcomplicated for the task at hand. It looks like a big job, but it's not. I've taken apart a VX dash and a couple of weeks ago, my son took apart and reinstalled his entire dash twice in the space of a week ('99 VT) . Neither of us had done it before...

What bulbs are used for the climate control backlight in a VT Commodore?

I've got a good half dozen out. They've been out since I bought my car two years ago. I finally figured I should put this knowledge to use this morning and ordered some new bulbs. Gonna try out some pink and blue ones, see how they look.

    2002 VU ute fuel pump

The VT fuel pump and the VU fuel pump are different part numbers, so I expect they would be different. There's a difference between the V6 and V8 assemblies as well. You can however change the whole fuel pump module assembly (rather than just the pump) to one from a VT/VX and it'd be fine...
