    Oils ain't oils Sol

I had a 2007 E90 335i with this feauture, BMW calls it CBS (condition based servicing), but I have trouble trusting it as the same BMW also lists the transmission (ZF 6 speed) as “filled for life” and hence doesn’t have a service interval even though ZF themselves recommends that particular...

    LS3 Coolant replacement

I wonder if they made minor changes the service schedule for different year cars (like how they extended the warranty for them) As I distinctly remember there was a coolant change mentioned in one of the service tear off pages (somewhere around 5 years or 100,000 kms) as I mentioned it to the...

    SSV Redline Tyres

Falken FK510s are what I’m using… Got recommended these by the local tyre mobs as the value alternative to the PS4(non S) as they are over $100 cheaper per tyre. Seems grippy enough in both wet and dry street driving, i floor it here and there and drive more “sprinted” vs the common Camry...

Question regarding possible license suspension and the double or nothing option

Another 2 week have passed (now 6 or 7 weeks in total now) and still nothing… Maybe I did get lucky and SCO either just drove their Ute into the bush and about to set up or already packed the camera up and about to leave. Or the car next to me (whom I was overtaking) blocked my plate off from...

Question regarding possible license suspension and the double or nothing option

It’s been over a month and still no fines from snail mail… how long do these thing take? And the more I think about it, the more I think I’ll just take the 3-4 month suspension and restart with 0 afterwards. Gonna be hard with the double or nothing in effect and keep my right foot in check...

    VF Random chat thread

I’ll consider a EV as a daily beater when I can grab one in decent (battery) condition for under $10k on the 2nd hand market from a manufacturer that’s not state owned by the CCP… as my current daily beater was only $3.5k. So probably never…

Question regarding possible license suspension and the double or nothing option

Cheers for the info, this waiting sucks, I rather know up front how much I was over (if a cop was there and just wrote me a ticket on the spot) so I can plan what to do next, not knowing sucks. It was a 110 zone near a overtaking lane down South west highway, I’m somewhat hoping the speedo...

Question regarding possible license suspension and the double or nothing option

Hi Long story short, I’m pretty sure I got done for speeding down south while driving a few days ago. Only thing is I’m not sure what speed I was doing when I spotted the tale tale signs of a white Iszue Ute parked well hidden inside the bush (but didn’t spot where the camera was placed)...

    battery life

My 2016 car is still on its original battery, I went through more batteries for the key fob (2 now) than the actual battery for the car.

    Tyres

I have Falken Fk510s on my car but the rears wear out at a ridiculous rate compare to the front, my 2nd set of rears have almost worn to the wear indicator while the front still has like close to 50% thread left. Rears seem to barely last past 20k kms… I don’t floor it all the time but I do use...

    Holden Servicing VF SSV Man

$177/hour is pretty cheap for a stealer imo… The local BMW one charges like $220/hour and some “specialised” euro workshops charges almost as much. Appears serving is just more expensive in WA in general? I take my VF (& my daily **** box) to a local shop (just because they were able to...

    Led low beam conversion

Sigh, looks like the VF just have crappy designed & outdated headlights and no amount of fancy bulbs is going to help much… I remember noticing a big downgrade in light output and distance when I first got this car doing night driving in the middle of no where (300km out of Perth) compared to my...

    LS3 oil consumption

reminds me of my E90 BMW, the offical statement is 1L oil usage per 1600km is “ acceptable“ but given those cars can have oil change intervals all the way up to 30,000kms/2 years if you follow the CBS computer it theoretically means you will be “changing out” all the oil just by topping it up as...

    Service reminder

I mean to be fair that’s not a Holden exclusive thing… My old BMW (E90) almost every fault ranging from but not limited to (boost leak, turbo failure, Vanos failure, high pressure fuel pump failure, high pressure injector failure, coil pack failure) gives the same generic “engine fault, reduced...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

RAC (WA) was the cheapest for me by far, the next insurance mob was $500 more. I did notice when I got my renew for this year, the agreed value was only set at $41k and manual adjusting it online would only allow it to got up to $49k which about $15k short of the cheapest S2 redline listed on...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

Well when I was on my Ps, I used to pay close to $3k per year along with a $3.5k excess for my R33 GTS-T that’s only insured for $10k with Just Car… Just saying…;)

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

Shannons has always been very anal about wanting to know every traffic infringement you ever had in my experience. when just car folded and I got sent to them (Shannons) to renew my insurance for my R33 Skyline, the person on the phone wanted me to tell them every traffic infringement I ever...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

With regarding to warning signs for mobile revenue cameras, in WA’s case: decades ago (like 20 or more) we had signs out in front. Then as time when on they moved the signs behind the camera setup and usually with a cheeky message (like “smile, you were just on camera” or “you have just past a...

    Replacing wipers blades

I’m running a mix match blades, small passenger side from Costco and larger right side from SCA. had to get rid of the original large one as after a while the large one was getting stuck with the smaller one and on one occasion came off the arm while driving at 110…

    Washing and polishing your car

On the topic of microfibre towels… what do you use to wash them with? I remember reading somewhere that just tossing them in with your regular laundry and using my regular (coles/woolies home brand special cheapo China spec laundry detergent) messes up the fibres in them?

Auto Dimming of My Link Screen

I have the same issue although I’m no really bothered by it as I hardly ever use the Mylink system/screen. always have my phone on the air vent mount with Waze for GPS & government revenue camera locations and I don’t use music streaming off my phone instead just have a 8gb USB with hundreds of...

    Washing and polishing your car

I just wash mine with that bottle of $10 “Wash & Wax 2 in 1” I bought over 5 years ago… lol It’s used as a long distance road trip car so then front is usually always covered in a swarm of dead bugs.

    Weird insurance business

Got my insurance renew from RAC (WA) for 16 SS redline and the agreed value was only $43.5k and the website would only allow me to adjust it to a max of $53.5k… however if I take out a new policy, the insured value can be adjusted all the way up to $65k? So I ended up just taking out a new...

holden capped price servicing when will it end

To this day there was only one shop I used were the minimal labour charge block was 1/2 hour instead of 1, so a basic service get charged $45 in labour (this was several years ago). It was a 1 man shop with like 2hoist inside, you won’t find a fancy customer waiting area with coffee machine &...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

The article mentions that Vic is unique that it doesn’t warn motorists of mobile cameras… the author obviously haven’t been to WA. WA hasn’t got warning signs for a decade now I think, still remember back then originally it was 1st they had signs in front of the cameras to remind/warn you...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

Main problem I have with is Aus’s seemly over anal enforcement of low level speeding (some states more so than others *cough* VIC *cough*) regardless of context (there is a difference between doing 20km/h over in a pedestrian heavy CBD area in peak rush vs doing 20km/h on an empty freeway at...

holden capped price servicing when will it end

And from what I understand the affected diesel cars have better performance compared to the ones that had the software “fixed” applied. More power or keeping Greta happy? easy choice for me lol

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

One of the “best” ones I have seen was You should be thankful that you get booked for doing 85 in a 80 zone as otherwise you magically get distracted and then rolls off the road and dies… Adverts like this are directed at changing attitudes, specifically to support the heavy (low level) speed...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

Hugh… That means if I were in NSW (or is this VIC) I’m risking getting a 1 month suspension every time I go to overtake someone on country/rural roads. I mean when it comes to overtaking on single lane rural highways (110 zones) I don’t exactly bother checking my speed, just make sure incoming...

Speeding question; cycling, conspiracy theories, government stuff, insurance and everything else

Looks like WA is more Lenient vs most states, 30km/h over is just a normal speeding offence ($800 & 6 demerit) here with no suspension. Got done for 30 something over once some 4 or 5 years ago by random patrol car in my BMW and just got a fine & tanked the points.

    Checking engine oil..

Suddenly BMW not put dipsticks in their cars and just flashing a message telling the owner/driver to take it to a stealer doesn’t sound too insane now… lol

    Checking engine oil..

In the case of BMWs, when you are low on oil it will pop up a message to tell you to top up 1L or take it to the “nearest friendly BMW dealership”… Great for those who never opens their bonnet I reckon

    Rearview Camera

After owning a BMW (e90 335i) for 5 years & getting quoted around $250 for a small piece of plastic cover (for ECU compartment) & around $800 for a ventilation fan… that Holden price seems pretty “reasonable” for a stealer lol
