    Problem - Crossthreaded sump plug

There's an alternative. This also works for cross threaded spark plug holes. A tool called a "Backtap" by Powerbuilt tools. Insert the tool and it spring loads out wards meaning that the metal comes out with the tap. I saw a back tap for $40 at Repco but it should be cheaper online...

    Stupid brake rotors!

Hiya Juzdvs. This may be handy for others with the problem in the future. I had the same problem but was scared I'd damage the hub if I belted it with a hammer so used a cheap gear puller instead. Took the load off the hub with a metal drift. Came off with some cursing.

    More On Shiftkits

Check out the B&M Racing web site. I think the Commodore trans is the 4L60E so type that in and do a search. They'll explain what the kit does. Most transmission shops in Perth will be able to fit the kit for you. Just a matter of finding one your happy to deal with.

Huh? Sounds like the person has installed the MOTEC for future use that is beyond the stock ECU. Or as you point it, it's cos I'm a dumbarse and have misunderstood the post?

motec fitted, now dramas with t700

The MOTEC is controlling the Engine, but whats controlling your gearbox? Some MOTEC's I've since need to be set up so they can control the sift points on the Turbo 700. It's a bit hard to diag without more info. But I'm sure it sounds like there's nothing controlling the gearbox...

    Serious problems

Problems dealing with Holden, really? Not defending them, as I have had a fair share of bad run ins with them in my first, and last Holden. But I think they are good to ship the car back to Adelaide for investigation. Thats amazing service. If it helps my car went into three different...

    Champion Spark Plug Ref Number.

Thanks for that mate. I did try but the number they gave me is what I have. Side by side the Champion is about 3mm to 5mm longer than the GM or the NGK ones. Thread looks different too

    Champion Spark Plug Ref Number.

I did a search and found nothing on this. Does anyone know what the Champion brand spark plug reference number is for the VY series 2 V6 engine? I scored a set but it doesn't look like the right plug. If not, does anyone know who the distributor is in Australia?

    Issues with VY'S

Holden have a fix for this. There should be a bit of insulation under the horn pad of the steering wheel. Without it the horn shorts causing it to go off.

The Window Tint ULTRA MEGA MEGA THREAD!!!

Are Tint-a -Car availble in Sydney? I highly recommend their work and tints. I used one, I think it's called Formula, that blocks out UV and IR to a high level. Has a 25 year warranty. Shop a docket gives you a fair saving on their tints as well. I saved 50% on my VY costing me $240 odd...

Penfold Holden quoted $490 for 90,000 service

I'd seriously shop around. Holden aftersales seems to have a lot to be desired at some delaerships. If you don't mind having your service book not having a Holden stamp then go to a Automasters, Ultratune or alike that you would trust.

    fuel consumption, whats yours?

10.8L/100km around the city with all the road works. 10l/100km around the burbs and haven't taken it on a long run yet to give good country milage. Mind you the company cars (XR8 /SS) I get 10's and 11's around town. Just a light foot I suppose...

So what are the best windscreen wipers?

Ilike the Triclo (is that how you spell them). Dunno if they are any good still cos they are now made in China as opposed to over here. Auger are good as well. I find RainX on the screen works wonders as well. Just make sure the screen is REALLY clean before appling and really rub it in...

Holden to pioneer crash avoidance system

This is a good thing. I'm not keen on the term "crash avoidance" though. Gives a false impression on what the system actually does. Which IMHO is to keep the car going where you want it to go.

    sv6 rattle

If it's the passenger side it's the brake line rubbing against the firewall. Took me a while but I found the sucker. Most evident when the car is in gear (i.e Drive) and you've the foot on the brake.

    LED Tail Lights...

The bulb will only operate within a certain voltage range. Too little a voltage and it won't light up, too much and it will blow. A LED has a much larger voltage range. Also a bulb is an inductive device whereas a LED is a diode. GM, both in Europe and the US, have always used a...

Ahh guys. Be careful. The electrics in GM vehicles have always used bulbs as a fusable link. Check you wiring diagrams before swapping out for LED's. Also the 3.8 litre Buick motor is a '65 motor.

    **WARNING** VZ V6 Owners

Interesting read, well the first bit at least:w00t: It may explain why the Alloytec's have such a large amount of oil in the engine. What is it close to 7 litres? Also if the engine is a little "noisy" (that is internal engine noise) then a thinner oil will exacerbate this and the knock...

The Window Tint ULTRA MEGA MEGA THREAD!!!

Spray water over the window with a bottle sprayer. Protect the interior and then cover the window to the bottom of the galss with a black garbage bag. Seal with tape and leave out side on a hot (WA hot i.e 36C+ day) and it easily just peels away glue and all.

Go the Magnetec. Good price for the filters. Ahhh yes sump plug washers, always forget those. I just bought some from Repco 5 litres plus a bonus litre ( the VY 3.8's use 5.6 odd litres) for $32 if memory serves me correct.

What the hell is a Holden Calibra ?

The most expensive car parts award goes to.. The Calibra. It's a badged Opel from Germany. Screwed together OK, just crappy parts that kept failing. Nice Euro front driver but again pray nothing ever breaks on it. They even came out as a 4WD turbo model to compete against the GT4...

Done properly it won't void your warranty. Drop oil, remove filter, use genuine Holden one (which appears not to be too bad a filter) replace sump bolt, top up with Magentec. Should have a drama, in fact I doubt Holden guys would know if it's been changed. Out of interest only a few of...

    Header paint

You don't want to dissipate heat from the exhaust gases. The idea is to keep the heat in the gasses to improve things like the speed at which it exists the system. Hence why heat coatings are used so extensively on performance and race cars. My advice is to look up industrial coasting in...

    Replace Antenna - advice please

Aint' that the truth. What really nags me is that Holden also claim that this must be done. Hence why they don't want to replace it under warranty. But hey thats another problem entirely. Bottfodder thanks for the instructions I'll use them when it's out of warranty and I can get a replacement.

    Good Quality Trolley Jack

I think mines the M800 or something like that. It fits under my VY2 with FE2. When I work on mates Supra's wtc (which are very very low) I simply put a board of wood down and drive the car on top to get that extra inch or so. I got mine for $215. You'll probably find them cheaper but...

    any sugestions

I know the economy on these things are bad but 300km:my: Modern cars have a feature in their ECU called On Board Diagnostics or OBD. The Commodore uses either the ODB2 or ODB3 standard on their ECU's depending on model. What this means is that, should you, say increase wheel rolling...

    Replace Antenna - advice please

Hi Mate, I too have a problem with the antenna in mine. The Holden dealer refuses to change it under warranty. The reason is that you have to take the whole front fender off to do the job properly. Bugger of a job. I didn't belive this until I got a VY shop manual and low and behold it...

Opinions sort: Series 1 or Series 2???

In the past we have had some major leaps after a period of stagnate design. Take the HZ to VB, XC to XD, XF to EA or VL to VN. All major leaps. I think this will be a more VN to VT kinda change. Nothing styling wise to dramatic but with some nice stuff. By that I mean stability control...
