    Extractor Question

Whilst they are great extractor manufacturers, if the extractors are the 1.5" or 1.625" primary pipe 4-1 tuned length headers (P/N 007et / 008et), they will not provide much over the stock exhaust manifolds. If they are the 1.625" primary, 2" secondary Tri-Ys (P/N 001et), they'll be fine. The...

    ls1 engine missing on idle

Check oxygen sensors - my bet is that they will be the problem. Otherwise, ensure all leads / plugs are properly fitted and that you don't have any fuel / air filter blockages. See if you can get it to Holden, or an Lxx tuning shop and they can scan it for you. cheers

    Dyno reports

I had a cat-back only on my old Senator when it was first dynoed - 195rwkW. With the addiition of DiFilippo 1 3/4 4-1 extractors - nothing else - same cats, cat-back, CAI and tune - it made 206rwkW. Take from that what you will. cheers

    mafless tune pros and cons

In a VZ you can go mafless or keep the maf - no real diffference as the maf is no restriction, unlike pre-VZ. Also, the maf tune retains a little bit more security if you get bad fuel, or bad atmospherics between seasons, as the maf meters the airflow, whereas a mafless tune is built entirely...

Dyno'd car, SS very underpowered compared to Holden's 270kw claims

No, it is because Ford have been UNDERquoting their outputs for a significant time - I cannot for the life of me think why, but they have been. To the OP, there are too many variables with different dyno, operators, how it was strapped, etc, etc. However, after your mods you made 28rwkw, which...

    VX R8 Clubsport

Nice choice in car and colour mate - the Racing Green is a winner! As for mods, as has been suggested, Heads and Cam would be the way to go, with the other ancillaries designed to match. With camshaft selection, you have to be ABSOLUTELY honest about what you want out of the car, as...

    question about mafless

If it is for an inspection, you may need to have the MAF re-fitted and re-activated in the tune. If it is only for aesthetics, just tape up the MAF wiring loom to the loom it branches off with black insulation tape - that was how the C4Bs (the only factory MAFless cars) were done. Putting the...

    vy gts hydra trac diff

They are Limited-slip and work with a viscous fluid, which thickens when load is applied. i do not know the physics, but the viscous fluid takes the place of the locking clutches, to provide drive to both axles. A VY Hydra-trak will require different stub axles to the mechanical...

    Do country roads slope left???

All roads have camber designed into them to aid in drainage and the roads slope down from the centre 'crown.' Best practice road design dictates that there should always be positive camber, ie: vertical banking to the outside of the curve, however, it is not always possible due to the...

Some advice for my GEN lll!

The SSind throttle bodies aren't too bad and the growler is barely okay, but an OTR is better. To the OP, it depends what you want in the end and the state of your bank account. A nice head package would set you back around $2500-3000 fitted and tuned and you'd probably need to add...

    Catch Cans

Another vote for Elite cans - they are the duck's guts. I'd buy one that is sealed - as the breather type ones do not comply with EPA rules and you may get pinched if you get pulled up. cheers

VX Audio - Sub, amp install

A Clarion headunit and a 'CAT-10' do the job for me - steering wheel controls work excellently. I have mine set-up hard-wired, not with the IR interface. cheers

No bottom end torque, especially 1st/2nd gear VZ SV8

    1. Leave the MAF alone until you can pay for a PROPER MAFless tune - or you will simply end up in trouble. 2. Extractors (1 3/4" 4-1s, or Tri-Ys will work on a bolt-on car), high-flow cats and a nice cat-back exhaust (2 1/2") will make a big difference in sound, performance and economy and...

    Difference between 5.0 & 5.7l V8

Some of these comments are very humorous. Face reality people; whilst the Holden 308 / 304 / 355 was a great, long-serving engine, the LS1 and later engines smack its ar$e every time. I've owned quite a few V8s (6 x Holden donk in HJ, HX, VP, VS & 2 x LS1) from circa-1975 cars up to what I...

Think I paid about $110-120 from Holden spares also. It has adhesive tape and sticks to the underside of the lip - there is a small guide cut-out to show you where centre is. cheers

good LS1 edit tuner in syd.?

Well, it won't be $300 for a tune, let me assure you. If you google businesses such as Oztrack, Marrano's, Sam's Performance, Castle Hill Exhaust, Russo, etc, etc you'll be able to contact tuners who have runs on the board and will sort your issue out. cheers

    Macca's VX Senator Signature

It has been a while and PLENTY has happened, so it is time for a further update. I'd mentioned earlier that I had to change over the climate control to the dual-zone type and install my stereo system - which isn't overly specced, but does the job for me - and that I had a few issue to iron...

VY SS with Harrop HH112 Misfiring

I'm thinking fuel and to be honest, if you don't want to lunch your FI car, I'd be getting it looked at properly ASAP. I believe there is a bloke who runs a shop up around Bendigo who is fairly good with Lxx engines and he may be able to check it our for you to determine the fault; otherwise...

[LS1] decision to make...to cam or to sc

FWIW, with a budget of under $10k, I'd be opting for a head / cam combination and all the supporting mods. To do FI properly, you will need more than $10k. cheers

Time for an update! Well, it has been a while and I reckon the thread is worth an update. I ended up receiving a heap of gear from here and in the US and over the past 6 or 8 weeks, have been putting it all together in my garage. A few random shots of the work I've accomplished...

New Rotors (Is There A Running In Period?)

Pretty much on the money, although, I'd try around 6 x 60kph - 10kph applications - DO NOT STOP COMPLETELY. Then, 6 x 80kph - 10kph applications - again, do not stop. Then, 2 x 100kph to 40kph. Use a firm, smooth brake application, do not jump on them. And then, you're done. Ensure you...

    vt senator electrict seats

They are adjusted by a long threaded bar, which turns and fastens / adjusts with internally threaded 'nuts' on the other half of the frame. If the threads are worn, you may be able to get away with replacing the 'nuts' that slide over the threads, if you can get them. Otherwise, you'll havet o...

All the Powerbond 25% UD balancers do have a keyway as standard. It is no problem for you on a stock crank without a key fitted. cheers

    LS1 cam selection

No, not saying that - it would be a very quick car, just that the cam isn't my cup of tea. I drive an M6 and have just put a 215/223 in mine, as i like smaller cams that come on earlier in a manual. In an auto, the stall converter puts you straight into the torque, so it doesn't create such...

    LS1 Grinding into 6th

Yep, using 6th at 80kph under load WILL result in you breaking something. 5th and 6th gears use some plastic components, believe it or not and if you place them under too much strain, being plastic, they break. Try changing the fluid to Penrite MGO70 (Manual Gearbox Oil 70) and see how it...

    LS1 cam selection

The Comp 232/234 @112lsa off the shelf cam would be ideal for what you seem to want, coupled with a 3500 or so stall. Not my cup of tea, but it would be a stout package with the 4.11 diff. cheers

replacing harmonic balancer. need bolt and torque help.

Why tap it on, when a bolt that is 20mm longer than the crank bolt is all that is needed to start it and avoid stripping out crank threads, or doing some other damage??? Is that how they do them at Holden? The guide I use states to torque the original bolt to 240ftlb, then break it free and...

Well, the head / cam / timing chain and a host of other goodies have now been fitted to my Senator 300, as well as the AP-Racing brake set-up, DiFilippo exhaust, 'Street' Ripshift and a few other bits and pieces. I ran into a couple of hurdles, but they are now sorted. I'll update the thread...
